Love You for the Rest of My Life

Chapter 269: No Meat to Eat

Chapter 269: No Meat to Eat

This feeling made these children from Capital City want to shed tears - this was simply too freaking poor!

Seeing this, the village head Gu Qibao really wanted to sing out loud, "How many winds and rains, how many springs and autumns..."

"Since you’re all here, follow me." The village head looked like a simple and honest man who wasn’t much of a talker.

Although the students were a bit scared, they obediently followed the old village head.

Each household received eight students - five boys and three girls. This distribution was due to the belief that boys needed to be stronger.

This result caused a sense of responsibility to explode among the boys, making them feel instantly that as men they should take care of the girls and shoulder important tasks.

Bo Chenghe, Gu Qibao, and Nangong Ran were grouped together, along with four other boys and a girl.

The girl was none other than Lin Wan.

Gu Qibao felt like it was somewhat of a narrow escape, but this was not the time to be concerned about such things.

The current problem was at hand.

The family they were assigned to, to put it bluntly, was hopeless.

It was quite pitiful.

The male head of the household had had an accident at work years ago resulting in paralysis of his lower body; he lost his ability to work.

Fortunately, the wife remained loyal to him.

But their living conditions were extremely poor.

With two elderly people who could hardly work and two dependent children in the household, the labor force was solely reliant on the wife.

Despite being only in her thirties, she looked as old as someone in her forties or fifties. Gu Qibao couldn’t help shedding sad tears at this sight.

Unfortunately, they had no money on them and the only thing they could do now was to help this family with farm work.

However, they, who had never suffered before, were willing to help but simply had no strength left.

Not to mention farming, they had to face the problem of survival first.

Not only did they have to cook by themselves, but this family also raised three or four pigs that they had to feed and take care of, and they all needed to assist the wife with farm work.

Initially, they were full of passion, but by the end, their passion had worn out because life was just too harsh.

After a day’s hard work, they didn’t even have meat to eat; they could only have vegetables!

They resisted at first but completely collapsed after four or five days.

Gu Qibao hoped every day that he could eat meat, but all he got was disappointment.

Finally, Gu Qibao couldn’t stand it any longer and, encouraged by all, he earnestly went to ask the wife when they could eat meat.

The woman was stunned, then said with some guilt, "In our family, we can only afford to eat meat once every three months."

"Three months!" Gu Qibao widened his eyes in disbelief and felt like he was going to faint.

They were doing such heavy farm work but could only eat meat once every three months; are they trying to drain their lives?

No wonder the woman looked so old.

If even she didn’t have meat to eat, it’s clear that they would not have meat to eat either!

If a family could only afford to eat meat once every three months, but their practice was only for a month, that meant they couldn’t eat meat at all during this month, right?

Upon hearing this piece of news, the few children completely lost it and nursed their grievances.

"What sort of experience journey is this? It is simply deceiving! They don’t let us eat meat, making us work hard all day, treating us like slaves!"

"I don’t want to do this anymore, I don’t need this university degree!"

"Exactly!"

Two emotionally agitated male students started to stir up trouble, wanting to leave.

Gu Qibao and the others were in a dilemma.

Because their instructor had explained that this was a group assessment, and if two individuals in a group quit, the entire group would fail!
