Love You for the Rest of My Life

Chapter 1266: The Sealed Past

Chapter 1266: The Sealed Past

Nangong Jin pulled up a smile, kissed her, and began to recount the long-buried past.

Perhaps because the memory was too old, he fell silent for a moment, as if reminiscing, and after a while, he opened his mouth and said, "Miao Wu is from Miaojiang and belongs to an ethnic minority. She had an extraordinary talent for song and dance. However, she didn’t come from a formal school; before she met me, she hadn’t received any training, nor had she ever watched a dance DVD.

Yet, she came alone to the capital when she was fourteen, the same age as me. Initially, she danced at bars and slowly gained some fame. I happened to go there and saw her. Seeing her talent, I invited her to be my dance partner; together we competed and won many awards, and Miao Wu’s talent was recognized by many people.

But Miao Wu and I had no romantic involvement; she didn’t like me, and I didn’t like her either. In fact, Miao Wu was a rather odd person, interested in nothing else but dance; her daily life was just practice, practice, practice.

However, since we were dance partners and collaborators, many naturally assumed we were a couple. Neither of us explained those comments because dance was all that was on our minds back then, and even if you try to clarify such relationships, outsiders might not believe it.

Later on, during one dance competition, her family found her and asked her to return to Miaojiang and stop dancing. Naturally, she refused and asked for my help, requesting that I pretend to be her boyfriend to convince her grandfather.

Being young, I didn’t see any issue with that, so I agreed. I personally spoke with her grandfather and for reasons unknown, he agreed and asked me to treat her well. She went back home once during our practice time and returned a completely changed person, even more eccentric than before.

I asked her several times, but she refused to say. Later, after winning an award, she committed suicide. The autopsy revealed that she was two months pregnant, and naturally, everyone pinned it on me, including her grandfather.

It was then I learned that Miao Wu was from the ancient witch tribe of Miaojiang, and as the eldest daughter, she was supposed to inherit this lineage, but her passion was dance. However, the reason for her suicide was not because she refused to inherit the lineage, but because of her pregnancy.

She left me a suicide note in my email, telling me that the child was her elder brother’s, her own biological brother. Her brother had dominated her from a young age, for many years, until she escaped to dance which gave her a few peaceful years.

During that return home, her brother violated her once again, and she became pregnant again; this wasn’t her first pregnancy. She had been pregnant many times before and had undergone many abortions, but this time, the doctor told her that if she aborted again, she would never be able to be a mother in her lifetime.

But Miao Wu could not bear this child, and their ancient tribe does not allow any physical defects; she needed to protect her womb, so her only choice was death. Also, she couldn’t endure the relationship with her brother.

So, she took her own life, leaving me a suicide letter, pleading with me, begging me to help keep it secret, and not to tell anyone, including her grandfather. She wanted to maintain a bit of dignity. Although she was already dead by the time I read the letter, I chose to help her, to keep that last bit of her dignity."
