Love You for the Rest of My Life

Chapter 1033: Dan Lingling Extremely Humiliated

Chapter 1033: Dan Lingling Extremely Humiliated

This is human nature, and it’s something to be envied.

However, it cannot be denied that there is distance between people.

Birds of a feather flock together, and people are grouped by their kind. If you’re not as excellent as others, how can you relate to them or find common topics of conversation?

Mere flattery clearly isn’t enough anymore.

And not everyone likes flattery. Many people are aware of their limitations. They may envy others, but unable to approach them for a conversation, they just mind their own business.

But there was one person who did go over—Dan Lingling. She believed she was fully qualified to appear before Alvin.

Moreover, she had been to B Country when her father, Dan Youguo, went on an international visit, although Alvin happened to be abroad that time.

So, carrying a glass of wine with elegance and grace, she walked over to where Gu Qibao and the others were sitting, stood next to Alvin, and began speaking in a brisk yet gentle tone, "Prince Alvin, I’ve long admired your reputation. It’s an honor to meet you today. On behalf of my father, I’d like to toast to you."

Alvin and Nangong Jin had drunk quite a bit and were a bit muddled. Hearing Dan Lingling’s words, Alvin looked up and asked, "Your father is?"

"My father is the president of the Empire," Dan Lingling smiled, dignified and poised, yet her eyes couldn’t hide her pride.

"Oh," Alvin nodded. "So you’re the president’s daughter. Indeed, you’re more impressive in person."

Dan Lingling was startled, somewhat surprised, and blurted out excitedly, "You know me? I remember I was in B Country on a visit last time, but you weren’t there."

Alvin was puzzled by her words, quite baffled, and it took him a few seconds before he seemed to grasp something.

He then bluntly asked, "Isn’t ’more impressive in person’ a customary phrase in your Empire?"

Dan Lingling was completely stunned, her face burning up as if it were on fire, literally feeling scorching pain.

Caught in such an awkward situation, she hurriedly nodded, "Yes, here, I toast to you."

After she said this, she gulped down the wine in her glass and almost fled in embarrassment.

She had intended to come off as sophisticated and keep up appearances, but unfortunately, she ended up humiliating herself.

What Alvin meant was simply that his saying ’more impressive in person’ was just a polite greeting, but she took it to mean he had actually met her before.

Whereas he had never met her, he didn’t even know who she was.

She lost face completely.

Watching Dan Lingling flee, Gu Qibao couldn’t help but laugh. Oh, Dan Lingling, she really was quite funny.

It just goes to show, those with ill intentions never end up with a good outcome.

It was clear she had come over intentionally to make a scene. If she had truly been unassuming, even if Alvin had misspoken, there was nothing embarrassing about that. She could have handled it gracefully, but instead, she embarrassingly ran off.

It only shows she initially wanted to attract attention and show off how impressive she was, but it turned into an awkward situation, and she just ran away.

With Dan Lingling hastily leaving, Gu Qibao and the others laughed until they were in stitches, while Alvin was still puzzled, blinking and asking, "Did I say something wrong?"

He believed his understanding of Chinese was quite good, but sometimes, some nuances still eluded him.

After all, some things are better understood intuitively rather than expressed in words.

"You didn’t say anything wrong." Nangong Jin gave a thumbs up. "Well said."

Hearing this, Alvin laughed again.

The dinner was almost over and the dance was about to begin. Virtually no one left, all thoroughly enjoying the dance.

Because they always felt staying here might enable them to meet someone superior to themselves, or possibly find a companion with whom they shared common interests.
