Another, less forgiving, read, “Did Emma Hamilton’s Moral Stand Cost Lives?” The weight of the scrutiny bore down on her, but she refused to waver.

“Emma,” Thomas’s voice broke through her thoughts. He entered, holding two cups of coffee. “I know that look. Stop reading the comments.”

She exhaled, accepting the mug he handed her. “I can’t help it. This decision had to be made, but the fallout… it’s a lot.”

He sat beside her. “You’ve built this foundation on principles. People see that, even if some don’t agree with your choices. The right people will step up.”
