Chapter 199 199 – Attack? Confusion? Who?

Chapter 199 199 – Attack? Confusion? Who?

A wyvern invasion.

A flock of wyverns which was spotted very recently had completely destroyed entire village and exterminated all live in it, be it civilians or livestock.

Adventurers and soldiers who were assigned to deal with the golem dungeon were ordered to immediately retreat and regroup in the city in order to prepare to deal with flying horde of monsters.

However, the monsters came to them.

This was somewhat expected result, since the wyvern would go to the massive source of "FOOD"… But then again, the attack came way earlier than anybody could had expected.

Still, even though the attack had caught everybody off guard, thanks to the adventurers and soldiers being called back in time, the defenses of the city were somewhat solid.

The invasion of wyvern lasted for 2 hours… But in the end, the attack was repelled, with most of the wyverns being hunted down.

The attack consisted mostly of sky wyvern, a weakest variant of wyverns.

But even so, they had more than enough numbers to make them dangerous.

The city was damaged and there were castles amongst the defenders.

Not only that, the people living in the city were terrified.

A raid of flying monsters that could just fly above the wall?

There is no wonder what the reaction of the civilians was about the current situation, even if the invasion of monsters was repelled.

And to make it worse, the people knew that they gotten LUCKY.

If the messenger didn't came in time.

If the wyverns attacked the city bit earlier.

The number of casualties would had been catastrophic.

And this in turn caused a question to occur.

[Why were wyverns even here?]

This question completely puzzled the adventurers and soldiers, causing a meeting between mayor, lord, adventurers and other high-ranking figures to hold a meeting.

They did not spotted anywhere wyverns appearing from anywhere, nor they had received any form of warning.

True, wyvern can traverse skies quiet fast and there is a chance that the message did not reached the city yet.

But by now a messenger should had already appeared, bearing the news from the territory control.

This in turn caused a confusion and distress.

To make matters worse, there was also a second situation going on.

Assassination of the guild master – Amelia Smith.

While a peace meeting between adventurer guild and golem dungeon was taking place, apparently there was a group of assassins accompanied by the monsters called dragon worms

Attack on the city and unknown assassins who used tamed monsters.

Obviously, the gathered thought that the two cases were connected… But again, there was a noticeable lack of evidence.

If the wyverns were controlled, then who was behind them?

Where these creatures came from?

What was the goal? Destruction of the city? Or the dungeon? Or maybe both?

There were countless theories and questions going on…. But no real answers appeared which could reveal the entire truth.

In the end, the meeting was called to a halt, as the adventurers and soldiers were ordered to try and gathered some evidence or at least leads which could reveal the truth, while also securing the territory and making sure that there were no other unknown monsters on the loose.

*sssssssssssssssssiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiggggggggggggghhhhhhhh*

"The fuck." – said dwarven adventurer Randolf as he was laying on top of the box.

"So, meeting ended up badly?" – asked the giant adventurer named Arthur as he approached dwarf.

"Pretty fucking much." – said Randolf.

"We didn't knew shit."

"We just asked question back and forth regarding the situation."

"We were pretty much stuck in a freaking loop, repeating some questions over and over…. And in the end?"

"We found fucking nothing from those fucking repeats."

"We barely obtained fucking any information and now they want us to go around and gather some…. Even though we don't know where the fuckers came from in the first place."

"In short, the lord wants us to inspect the WHOLE territory."

"Which in turn make take hell of a lot of time until it gets finished."

"…"

*Sigh*

"It was fucking stupid."

"Why the hell didn't you go there instead of me?"

"Welp, somebody need to make sure there was no more monsters on a loose." – replied Arthur.

"…"

"Anyway, how is the situation?"

"In a nutshell? Shitty." – replied Randolf.

"Nobody knows what the fuck is going on."

"The wyverns appeared out of nowhere and we don't even know from which direction they came."

"Nor we have any clue regarding the whole attack on the guild master and the golem dungeon."

"…"

"But from what we had pieced together, we suspect that the wyverns were tamed or controlled creatures."

"And the one behind assassination on the guild master was probably the one who controlled these wyverns."

"The timing proves as further evidence, since there is no freaking way they are not related."

"But now the problem is a freaking motive."

"Would somebody REALLY just fucking unleashed a horde of monsters AND assassinate the guild master?"

"I mean, the main reason behind it would be destruction of the golem dungeon."

"These 3 parties that were sent back told us about all about the Silver Talons's theory."

"Traitors and value of the dungeon to the empire."

"Empire do use golems and any means of upgrading them would definitely make them even more dangerous foes in the eyes of neighboring kingdoms."

"So the whole panic and aiming to destroy the dungeon does sounds possible."

"Honestly, the whole story is all over the place, but if you pieces all together it start makings some solid picture."

"Expect for one fucking fact."

"Those attacks came way too early."

"I mean, even if they did learned the value of the dungeon AND were see the possibility of the entire empire ending up UPGRADING by acquiring the dungeon."

"The whole attack came way too early and unnoticed."

"No matter how you look at this, the whole 'attack' straight up make whole puzzle fall apart."

"Wyvern attack was defiantly a means of having us run away from the dungeon and head to the city."

"And the attack on the guild master was means of having the peace talk fail… And possible have the dungeon master think it was OUR doing."

"But again…. This freaking timing!"

"IT DOESN'T MAKE A BLOODY SENSE!"

"…"

*Sigh*

"Honestly, we don't know what to do nor we have any leads."

"The main culprits are neighboring kingdoms."

"…"

"But what about dungeon? What do we do about it?" – asked Arthur.

"How I should I know?" – replied dwarf.

"This Arthur, not you, the other one… The golem guy."

"He is supposed to be doing the meeting."

"We haven't heard anything from him or the Silver Talons… Honestly, I'm all in for destroying the dungeon."

"The guild master plan was the same."

"I mean, I get the whole 'benefit' for the empire, but we are fucking dealing with way too monster incidents."

"Things somewhat calmed down for now, but sooner or later we will be needed."

"So you are sticking with the plan to destroy the dungeon?" – asked Arthur as the dwarf took out his pipe and match.

"Fucking obviously." – replied dwarf as he started smoking.

"I don't care who these attackers are, but if they manage to weaken the dungeon for us or just destroy it, we will be at the advantage no matter what."

"I'm sorry for the guild master and everything, but this is how live is… I've already met a lot people I've liked… Only to next day find out that they died who knows where."

"I'm used already to losses."

"…"

"Now that I think about it…. The timing isn't the only thing off."

"?"

"What do you mean?" – asked Arthur.

"Let's say the traitor theory is correct." – replied dwarf.

"And let's say that they had information to give to our enemies via some sort of magic tool from afar, giving the foes ability hide their communication since they didn't needed to leave the camp."

"But if they wanted us to get fucked, why didn't they just used wyvern on us?"

"They could had provoke the dungeon, make it look like it was our doing, while also having wyverns be on our assess."

"That wyvern flock had numbers, but it was weak."

"However, it would definitely be giant pain in an ass for us AND would hold us in place."

"The dungeon master would see this as opportunity AND since we would be already be seen as 'traitorous enemies who betrayed the trust given to us via peace talk', he would unleashing his entire army of golems on us."

"I don't know if that would wipe us out, but it would end up definitely with us having extremely high casualty rate."

"But at the same time, the dungeon forces will end up being extremely beaten down and destroyed."

"Why…."

"No! This doesn't make fucking sense!"

"They could had just done that!"

"If they really had fucking ability to appear from the ground at the moment notice via dragon worms, then why the fuck they didn't went with this strategy?!"

"They would get rid of the dungeon extremely easily this way AND they would also get rid of witness like, FUCKING MEANING THAT NOBODY WOULD EVEN KNOW THAT THERE WAS SOME SORT OF SABOTGE!"

"It would look like dungeon was behind everything!"

"…"

"Are you saying they intentionally make us aware of the existence of assassins?" – asked Arthur.

"Yeah… That ain't no fucking way somebody would do such pathetic and sloppy job with THOSE kind resources and information at hand." – replied Randolf.

"No….No…No… Fucking no."

"It would only make freaking sense if the culprit intentionally played their cards extremely poorly."

"But what would be the point?"

"…"

"Silver Talons."

"They are the only ones that saw the guild master 'die' at the hands of these assassins, yes?"

"…"

"Are you suspecting them of killing the guild master?" – asked Arthur as he spoke quietly.

"Yeah…" – replied the dwarf with annoyed yet pissed expression.

"Now that I think about it, their whole story about assassins isn't adding up."

"And if we all other elements that are not adding up as well."

"…"

"These bastards may had made the whole story up."

"Tch."

(Fuckers. I knew something was off about them from the start, but couldn't really put my finger where.) – thought Randolf as he stood up.

(Still, I don't know what they game here is…. But I know well damn who they are now.)

(Enemies.)

"Call the others."

"We need fucking hunt."
