Chapter 1319 1319: Serves You Right

As Ao Shi's words fell, Mo Xiao and the other four remained expressionless, but the seven or eight people Jing Wuyan had recruited in the Southern Middle State showed flickering eyes, clearly tempted.

The most powerful in cultivation, Qin Yi, is dead. Xiao Jian left in the morning and hasn't returned yet.

Observing Soul Chasing Mercenary Group, not only do they outnumber Jing Wuyan's group, but their cultivation is also stronger, especially Ao Shi, who was quite famous throughout Sin City.

Surrendering means survival, with endless wealth and glory awaiting. Resisting, certain death. Is this choice difficult? Not at all.

They wanted revenge against the Sword Sect, but they needed to assess the situation wisely. In the current circumstances, forget about revenge; staying alive would already be a miracle. As the saying goes, a good death is better than living a life worse than death—they had no reason to throw their lives away.

"I surrender," someone shouted.

Mo Xiao and others whipped around, glaring at the person, "Faithless, have you forgotten what the Sword Sect did to you? Do you really think surrendering means survival? Fighting desperately offers a slim chance, but surrendering means certain death. Do you not understand the Sword Sect's nature? How could they let anyone who stood against them live?"

Zheng Lin smugly said, "Am I not alive? And living well. Don't believe him; he's Jing Wuyan's confidant, naturally helping Jing Wuyan. Don't be foolish, used as someone's pawn."

"I surrender too."

With the first, follows the second; the seven or eight people Jing Wuyan recruited in the Southern Middle State chose to surrender one after another.

"You faithless traitors, I'll kill you," Mo Xiao was furious.

"Let it go," Jing Wuyan stopped Mo Xiao.

He looked at those seven or eight people and said solemnly, "I respect your choice, but I hope your choice is correct, that you live well."

The seven or eight people, eyes flickering, faces full of guilt, dared not meet Jing Wuyan's gaze. After all, betrayers were most despised.

"It's alright, even ants crave life; there's no shame in seeking survival." Jing Wuyan smiled, but the smile was somewhat bitter.

"Young Master, I'm sorry."

One person bowed apologetically to Jing Wuyan and then walked towards the Soul Chasing Mercenary Group.

Others followed suit.

Jing Wuyan sighed softly.

Ao Shi laughed proudly, watching the few approaching, "Congratulations on your rebirth. Your choice was correct. Stand by my side, and you're one of us."

The seven or eight people expressed gratitude, their faces full of appreciation.

Ao Shi's eyes showed a sinister gleam, one hand behind his back, signaling something.

"Watch out!" Jing Wuyan suddenly cried out, seeing the Soul Chasing Mercenary Group members at the back launch a sneak attack on those who had just surrendered.

"Puff puff...!"

But it was already too late; seven steel blades pierced through them.

The ones who had just surrendered trembled, looking down at the blades protruding from their chests, their faces exhibiting anger, reluctance, regret, and various complex emotions, their heads slowly drooping.

The Soul Chasing Mercenary Group acted ruthlessly, the blades piercing the heart directly, killing them instantly.

The surrendering group never expected the Soul Chasing Mercenary Group to attack, were caught completely off guard, and were killed, without a chance to use their cultivation.

Jing Wuyan's eyes widened in fury, and he roared, "They had already surrendered, why kill them?"

Ao Shi's face was cruel, he sneered, "Young Master Jing is too merciful; you should thank me. These traitors are useless. Today they betray you; tomorrow they betray us. Traitors aren't worthy of trust. Besides, each of their heads is worth ten thousand gold coins, not as much as yours, but why wouldn't I take free money?"

Mo Xiao and his group looked indifferent; to them, traitors weren't worth pity.

Zheng Lin, however, was frozen with fear, appalled eyes staring at Ao Shi.

Ao Shi glanced at him, "Brother Zheng Lin, don't worry. You're a hero; without you, how could we know about Young Master Jing? You're different from these people. You helped my Soul Chasing Mercenary Group earn a fortune, while these wanted to enjoy the fruits without any effort. We treat friends sincerely."

Zheng Lin slowly exhaled, though still anxious inside, "Fifth Captain, since Jing Wuyan has been found, I'll take my leave."

His payment was received; he'd leave and find solitude to enjoy life freely.

Ao Shi nodded slightly, "I was hoping to have a drink with you after, but since Brother Zheng Lin has matters, I won't force you. Go safely."

"Thank you, farewell!"

Zheng Lin bowed, cupped his fists, then glanced at Jing Wuyan, "Young Master Jing, choose wisely. Unfortunately, I won't see your bodies lying here."

"Traitor, beast," Mo Xiao cursed.

Zheng Lin showed no remorse, chuckled coldly, "Curse all you want. But in the end, I live; you're going to die."

With that, a smug smile, he turned to leave.

As he turned, Ao Shi struck, his broadsword slicing through the air, terrifying saber energy bursting forth.

Zheng Lin felt a chill on his back, body stiffening, instinctively spinning around.

"Puff!"

Saber energy flickered past.

Zheng Lin's body froze, eyes fixed on Ao Shi. Then, his body splayed to both sides, split in half by a single slash, a gruesome death.

Ao Shi sneered, "Our Soul Chasing Mercenary Group's things aren't so easily taken."

"He deserved it," Mo Xiao's group muttered.

Ao Shi looked at Jing Wuyan, "Young Master Jing, I helped kill this traitor for you. Shouldn't you surrender gratefully?"

Jing Wuyan's face was bitter, "If I surrender, will you spare the others?"

"Young Master, we won't leave. Don't worry, even if we die, we'll protect you."

"Young Master, let's fight them."

Ao Shi laughed madly, "Don't shout. I never said I'd let you leave. Young Master Jing, you see, it's not that I refuse, but these loyal subordinates of yours don't wish to leave."

Jing Wuyan frowned, his face darkened with anger, "You won't even listen to my orders?"

Mo Xiao gritted his teeth silently, stubborn-faced.

Jing Wuyan helplessly said, "Being captured alone is better than everyone dying here. If you leave, there's a chance to save me. If you die, captured, who'll save me?"

"Hey, isn't Young Master Jing treating this place like his home? When did I say I'd spare your subordinates? You might not know, these people are worth far more than Zheng Lin and them. So, I'm afraid you all have to come with me."

Jing Wuyan's face shifted, glaring at Ao Shi, "I may not be able to defeat you, but I can kill myself before you strike. If you want to carry my corpse back, go ahead and try."
