Chapter 36: The Overpowered Summon (1)
Chapter 36: The Overpowered Summon (1)
The ceiling stretched high above me, painted with murals of winged figures descending from the sky. Crystal chandeliers hung like frozen stars, casting warm golden light over polished marble floors that reflected everything like a mirror.
Soft curtains the color of moonlight swayed beside tall windows, and a fire crackled quietly in a stone hearth.
And in the middle of it all...
I sat on a bed bigger than anything I had slept on before.
"...This is ridiculous."
Just hours ago, I had been struggling in that freaking desert, with monsters at every corner.
But now I had clean clothes and a stomach filled with food too sweet for my taste buds.
I raised my hand, staring at my palm. The skin was still rough, faint burns lining my fingers.
So it wasn’t a dream.
"I had really escaped that fucking hell hole."
Shutting my eyes for a moment, I inhaled deeply and exhaled heavily. "I’m happy for me."
Now that I finally had time to relax, I sat upright on the bed.
"Better check it out."
I didn’t know what the whole hero thing meant, but if it gave me food and shelter and no one tried to purposefully kill me, I would do my own part in it. However, if they tried to harm me, that was a different case.
"System."
Ding!

A laugh threatened to spill out from my lips at the sight of the stats. I had become level 3, and my stats were far above those of normal level 3s.
If I used the normal level calculation, then a peak level 3 should have 34 for each stat if they distributed it evenly. But I had stats comparable to a level 5.
And then there was the new unique skill: Shinra.
"Is that the king of the desert?" I muttered under my breath, my hand under my chin.
It was really a weird turn of events. Wanting to distract the monsters in the sand and ending up defeating the slumbering king.
A faint shiver ran down my spine.
Such events were things that could only happen to a main character.
Did that mean I too was a main character now?
The thought of being a main character sent dread through me, but when I remembered the emotion "Surprise," I calmed down.
It wasn’t like I was the main character. It was more that the emotion "Surprise" was trying its best to make me surprised.
If that was the case, then it indeed passed with flying colors.
I raised my hand. "Shinra."
Light flickered at the tip of my fingers, making them glow faintly. My blue mana slowly began mutating until it turned deep red.
My breath caught, and my gaze widened.
However, before anything magnificent could happen, the system rang in my head.
Ding!
[Your summoning of the king of the desert, Shinra, has failed.]
[Increase your level and try again later.]
I let out a sigh and collapsed on the bed. "I knew it wouldn’t be that easy."
No one, not even "Surprise," could give a level 3 a summon that was nine times his level.
Having such a thing by my side would surely cause a stir in the world, especially if it was a growth type.
I could already imagine it: me becoming level 20 but having a summon that was just as strong as me and was even a king at that.
Since I couldn’t summon him, all I could do was try to raise my level.
I stared at the back of my hand, my arms stretched high. "One step at a time."
I stood to my feet and began wandering around the room, fingers tracing over the fanciful antiques and decorations. As I went deeper into the room, I noticed a small library tucked to the side.
Increasing my pace, I rushed toward it, my fingers running along the surface of each book. The words written on them were all in English, which meant it wasn’t someone from Meltonia who wrote them.
"Who exactly is the one who writes all these things in English?"
From the books here to the translated codes.
I was sure that an earthling entered this world way before I did, and he wasn’t someone small since he could change society so much.
"Does it have something to do with the blood of Val Arcain?"
I shook my head.
This was one of those mysteries I preferred going unsolved.
I continued checking the names on the books until I reached a red book with strange black markings that read The Tale of the Battle of Heroes.
"Here it is."
I found my first clue to what exactly I was meant to accomplish in this world.
The first page of the book was written in bold English words:
[This tournament and ritual is for the one whom I serve, my only friend, the one who the world knew as the man of colours, and the person who saved my world, Arthur Val Arcain.]
I flipped to the next page, which contained drawings of different heroes wielding different weapons. The depictions looked somewhat murim-like, and a few words were written at the end of the drawing.
"Only the willing shall remain."
