Chapter 83 : Reward
Sal looked around and was quite surprised by the fact that only the Silver Cohort was present in the auditorium.
He was flustered wondering if they had finished combat much later than other groups.
However, Quest, who appeared on the stage soon, gave the answer to that question.
With a lively face, he tapped the earpiece worn on the side of his head lightly and started speaking.
"Welcome back! We are conducting briefings individually every time each group returns to the Academy. There are still four Cohorts remaining at the tournament stadium. It's due to unexpected schedule delays, but everyone is scheduled to return safely soon."
The expressions of some students who were flustered looking around relaxed at Quest's words.
"You showed truly excellent performance in this tournament. You cooperated overcoming each of your limits and fought nicely as a team. This event has the purpose of informing you what parts you need to supplement in the early stages. Especially, I send sincere congratulations to the top six teams who performed beyond expectations in this training! And to the lower-ranking teams, I want to tell you absolutely not to be discouraged."
Quest smiled brightly simultaneously with those words.
"Our faculty is currently analyzing all your performances by team unit and individual unit. How this result will affect each of you will be revealed through the assembly to be held tomorrow morning. And I will also briefly explain based on what criteria we proceeded with the evaluation."
Individual Evaluation: 50%
Endurance - Stamina / Patience (10%)
Efficiency - Initiative / Combat Contribution (10%)
Order - Organization / Leadership / Execution of Instructions (10%)
Ability - Skill / Equipment Utilization (10%)
Wildcard - Exemplary Effort (10%)
Team Evaluation: 50%
Composition - Team Structure (10%)
Leadership - Team Captain's Capability (10%)
Teamwork - Formation / Support / Execution of Instructions (10%)
Efficiency - Stamina Management / Time Taken to Win (10%)
Kill Count - Total Number of Defeats (10%)
Quest pointed his finger at the screen that suddenly appeared.
Because the lighting of the screen was so bright, most students covered their eyes, and in that process, complaints mixed with curses flowed out from here and there.
However, the Headmaster, as if not caring at all, explained each item one by one and explained how the scores were calculated.
Sal was calmly grading his team's performance score while recalling a checklist in his head.
It was a calculation to predict in advance what result would come out.
Strictly speaking, his own leadership was lacking and the team composition was a mess.
However, when compared with other teams, it seemed there was a definite superiority.
But he couldn't let his guard down.
Looking around, there were quite a few students frowning looking at the evaluation criteria.
"The evaluation will proceed based on the top ten matches among the battles fought during the day today. Individual evaluation is graded separately according to each person's contribution, and team evaluation will be applied equally to all team members. The top six teams will be given Q-Credit rewards, and I also offer words of respect for the effort you showed today. However, this board is not the final result. As the individual evaluation and team evaluation results are reflected, the rankings can fluctuate quite a bit. The passing standard for the Combat class is 60%."
Sal guessed that setting the passing standard for the Combat class as a percentage was probably a measure for the lower-ranking teams.
It was a much fairer method giving a chance to pass even to a few teams in the lowest ranks.
He suddenly thought about whether this criterion would work disadvantageously for Gerard.
Because not only were his qualities as a leader lacking, but his team composition was also terrible.
Then Sal's gaze reached the 'Wildcard' factor among the individual evaluation items.
'Did they make it intentionally to give extra points to promising students?'
Thinking like that, he didn't feel very good.
Because he questioned whether the method of evaluating students was truly fair at this point only a month after the semester started.
The curriculum so far felt like a structure where only students who were fast or had excellent combat abilities received preferential treatment.
It seemed students who took on Supporter roles were just suffering disadvantages.
Just then, Quest's voice rang out again.
"You might be wondering why we gathered like this today when the rankings are scheduled to be announced tomorrow. Of course, changes will occur in the rankings tomorrow, but the results of today's battles also deserve to be respected. So we intend to proceed with a small awards ceremony tonight. Inquiries came in from a few external Guilds who saw today's match contents."
Quest's lips curled up in a grin.
"It's not a very rare thing, but it's not a common thing either. And a few professors also expressed their intention to invite some of the Silver Cohort students to their Master Classes. It is a precious opportunity that can have a very big influence on your career path in the future. Now it's late, and the next train is scheduled to arrive soon. So we will finish with the announcement you have been waiting for the most. The details of the awards to be awarded to the teams that produced the most outstanding results today are as follows."
Combat Class Results (Silver Cohort)
Team 2 - 7,500 Q-Credits (1,500 per person)
Team 4 - 6,000 Q-Credits (1,250 per person)
Team 17 - 5,000 Q-Credits (1,000 per person)
Team 1 - 3,000 Q-Credits (600 per person)
Team 6 - 2,000 Q-Credits (400 per person)
Team 20 - 1,000 Q-Credits (200 per person)
"Sincere congratulations to all top six teams! As I said, tomorrow there are additional awards to be awarded after joining other Cohorts along with a more in-depth result announcement. We will finish around here for tonight. I hope you rest well. Since your whole bodies will be screaming tomorrow morning, we specially delayed the assembly time a bit. I won't particularly accept words of thanks."
Quest smiled toward the students and gestured for them to return to the dormitory.
Sal couldn't help but burst into laughter seeing the blank faces of his team members.
Even Barry couldn't maintain his composure thinking about the enormous amount of Q-Credits that would come into his account.
Blanid was curled up in her chair covering her face with two hands, and Jack was patting her back while staring blankly at the screen.
Just then, Anthony pointed to the bottom of the award list and looked back at Sal.
"Gerard won't like that very much."
Sal felt warmed confirming that the prize money Gerard received had reduced absurdly.
Although he wished he had fallen to a lower rank, thinking about what he had gone through so far, he thought it was fortunate he didn't return empty-handed.
Sal smiled and moved his steps toward the dormitory alone.
He didn't know how much his ranking would change, but he looked forward very much to what would happen to the team.
***
Sal doubted his own eyes the moment he checked the report card.
It seemed the evaluation was completed overnight, but it was completely different from the result he expected.
Since Quest always liked hidden missions or secretly proceeding evaluations, Sal was sure he would be deducted points in all items naturally.
But it was the opposite.
He wavered between tension and relief, then read the report card line by line with trembling hands.
Salvatore Argento: Combat Class Evaluation Report - Total Score 96%
Individual Evaluation: 49 / 50 points
Endurance - (10 points)
Efficiency - (9 points)
Order - (10 points)
Ability - Skill / Equipment (10 points)
Wildcard - Exemplary Effort (10 points)
Team Evaluation: 47 / 50 points
Composition - (9 points)
Leadership - (10 points)
Teamwork - (10 points)
Efficiency - (8 points)
Kill Count - (10 points)
The report detailed matters needing improvement in the future.
It was closer to an educational purpose than criticism.
One of the major points pointed out was that the team started using their trump card only when they reached the tenth battle.
The content was that they missed the opportunity to finish previous battles faster due to that, and consequently, efficiency dropped.
Anthony received an evaluation that he relied too much on the sword.
Additionally, it was pointed out that he showed his movement ability properly only when reaching the last battle.
Blanid received high praise in almost all reports and had only very slight deductions in endurance and ability items.
Jack could offset the deduction in the efficiency sector by receiving wildcard points thanks to his shield performance in the last battle.
It seemed the team member with the fewest kills within the team was Jack.
Despite all these points, the final result was a huge shock to all team members.
No matter how many times he reread the report, Sal couldn't understand at all how the score could come out so high.
Team 2: Combat Class Final Result - 93.2%
Salvatore Argento - Total Score 96%
Barry Francis - Total Score 95%
Blanid Cleen - Total Score 94%
Anthony McGuin - Total Score 91%
Jack Allen - Total Score 90%
Sal took a sip of coffee bought at the stand and took his eyes off the tablet.
Most team members were here early because they couldn't sleep properly.
Blanid confessed she spent two hours looking around the Credit Store.
She wanted to examine what she could buy with the newly acquired Q-Credits.
Since it was by no means a small amount, she became able to access various benefits and opportunities within the school.
Sal was also contemplating which modules and classes he should choose to help his career path.
As he looked around, Barry met his eyes and sent a questioning gaze.
It seemed the two were thinking almost the same thing.
"You know that, when the Headmaster talked about Master Classes... was he talking about us? If Professor Alastair accepts me and I even get a Tactics certification... then I could be assigned to the Controller class!"
An unusual desperation brushed past in that tone.
Sal realized that was hope.
"It's a really good opportunity for you. If you get it before the inter-Cohort competition, I'll gladly hand over the team leader position to you!"
Sal spoke like a joke, but Barry didn't laugh and looked at him with a serious expression.
"Are you serious?"
As Sal nodded, Barry reached out his hand.
"Then let's shake on it. Auction House style promise?"
Sal laughed and grabbed his hand firmly.
"You're talking as if I wanted to be team leader. Ideally, I'd just like to be eliminated and never have to enter that Prism again?"
Barry looked at such Sal with eyes wide open.
"With that mindset, how are we going to conquer dungeons or towers? Don't worry, once I master the Controller class perfectly, we will be invincible. You guys are my chess pieces, and I'm the commander who will lead to checkmate!"
As Sal scoffed, Barry looked back at Jack and spoke with a pitying expression.
"Of course, some pieces might be sacrificed. So be prepared!"
At those words, Blanid pushed Barry playfully, and Jack pointed at himself with a bewildered expression.
Anthony sitting in the back giggled.
Sal tried to retort something too, but Quest, who had already come up on the stage, was tapping his earpiece and starting to speak.
Barry turned his face toward the stage and winked at Sal.
Sal couldn't understand Barry's suddenly excited change at all.
'Is it because of the Q-Credits? Or because of the possibility of becoming team leader?'
However, the exact reason was unknown.
