Chapter 50 – Two-layer tomb
Chapter 50 – Two-layer tomb
Yang Lingrui followed Li Cheng as they advanced through the passageway.
Judging by the depth, they should have reached the second level of the ancient tomb.
"Oh? A fork in the road, interesting."
The four of them stopped, facing five diverging paths leading in different directions.
Seeing this, Yang Lingrui understood the structure of the second level.
Unlike the open space of the first level, the second level of the ancient tomb consisted entirely of these passageways.
The passageways extended downward, twisting and branching, creating a peculiar underground tomb structure.
"Lingrui, do you usually have good luck?" Li Cheng asked.
Yang Lingrui thought for a moment, "I suppose it's not bad."
"Then you choose. I've been plagued by bad luck since I was a kid, never picking the right thing."
"Hmm..."
After pondering for a moment, Yang Lingrui chose the passageway on the far right.
The four of them entered, and before long, they encountered their first wave of attacks.
It was a swarm of corpse worms emerging from the ground. These strange insects could devour a cultivator's spiritual power. Individually, they posed no threat, but in swarms, they were quite difficult to deal with.
However, with Li Cheng, a Qi Condensation Sixth Layer cultivator, these worms were naturally not a problem. A few slaps and they were all dead.
Li Cheng practiced a spell technique that manifested externally, allowing him to project various techniques in a tangible form.
According to him, with the addition of Five Elements Talismans, he could imbue his spells with corresponding attributes, making him more versatile in combat.
After passing through the swarm of worms, the four arrived at a room with a coffin lying horizontally.
Li Cheng examined it, confirmed there were no traps, and opened it.
Inside the coffin, there was no corpse, only a pile of burial items.
The most valuable among them was an Enlightenment Pill at the Early Qi Condensation level, which Li Cheng pocketed.
After walking a bit further, they encountered another fork in the road.
This time, Yang Lingrui again chose the right path.
The second path was uneventful, and the four of them reached a new room without any obstacles, where they found three Mountain-Moving Talismans at the Mid Qi Condensation level.
These talismans could significantly increase the physical strength of a Qi Condensation cultivator, making them very practical. Li Cheng gave one to Yang Lingrui and kept the remaining two.
Continuing forward, they faced the same fork in the road and once again chose the right path.
On the third path, they encountered a Bone Python.
This sinister creature was not a demonic beast but was formed from the bones of many vengeful spirits.
"Qi Condensation Third Layer, Lingrui, why don't you take this one?"
"Just what I wanted."
Yang Lingrui knew Li Cheng wanted to see his skills.
He was itching for a fight himself, so he decided to use the Bone Python to stretch his muscles.
"Wind, rise."
Yang Lingrui whispered in his heart, and gales of wind rose with his thought.
Crack, crack—
The Bone Python twisted its body and charged.
Surrounded by gale winds, Yang Lingrui spun up instantly.
He flipped over to the back of the Bone Python and summoned several wind blades.
Bang, bang, bang!
The fierce wind blades struck the massive body of the Bone Python, provoking its ferocity. It turned and roared.
"Gather."
Yang Lingrui remained calm, gathering several gales into his palm.
As the creature approached, he released them instantly.
A swift wind spike shot out, appearing as a gray line in the eyes of the four, piercing the head of the Bone Python and exiting halfway through its body.
The Bone Python fell with a thud, its bones scattering and gradually turning to dust.
"Impressive!"
Li Cheng clapped and praised.
The two followers behind him now looked at Yang Lingrui with changed expressions.
The Bone Python was not an easy foe. In the same realm, they couldn't have ended the fight so quickly.
"This kid's wind technique is formidable."
"Indeed, and his mastery is deep, combining power and speed."
The two exchanged whispers, calculating their chances against Yang Lingrui.
"Just a small display, to be honest, Lingrui only knows this one spell technique," Yang Lingrui said with a smile.
"So what? Master one move and it can take you far! Spell techniques are about quality, not quantity. Look at me, I only mastered an external manifestation."
Having witnessed Yang Lingrui's strength, Li Cheng was very pleased, his mood lifted, and his steps became lighter.
In the third room, they found a stone.
Li Cheng examined it and confirmed it was a naturally formed Strange Stone.
"Lingrui, do you know what this is?"
"I know a bit, it's recorded in the books my elders brought back," Yang Lingrui replied.
In truth, the moment he saw the Strange Stone, Yang Lingrui felt a surge of excitement, though he hid it well.
Being of the stone attribute, this item could be offered to his Spirit Stone Immortal.
"Well, it's just that the use of this thing is unknown, and its value is uncertain. It might not be of much use."
Li Cheng patted his pouch and said, "How about trading it for something else from me?"
"Oh, no need, Young Master Li, don't worry about it. Treasure hunting is all about luck and skill."
Yang Lingrui politely declined, "No need to trade, I'll just take this Strange Stone."
"True, it might just be a treasure."
The Strange Stone was handed to Yang Lingrui, who suppressed his excitement and stored it in his storage bag.
"Now there's some gain. I'll hand this over to the Immortal when I return," Yang Lingrui thought.
The four of them went through two more forks in the road.
One path was safe, while the other contained a Qi Condensation Fourth Layer ghost general, which Yang Lingrui and the other two dealt with together.
In these two rooms, they obtained a treasure sword at the Early Qi Condensation level and a Resurrection Grass at the same level.
Having successfully navigated five passageways, there were no more forks, and a straight path led to the third level of the ancient tomb.
Yang Lingrui's luck was decent, choosing two safe passageways out of five.
It seemed that with enough luck, even a Qi Condensation First Layer cultivator could, by always picking the safe path, effortlessly obtain five rewards and reach the third level through the passageways.
Arriving at the third level, a sinister grand hall came into view.
When Yang Lingrui and the others arrived, Huang Yan and Zheng Huaming were already there.
"You two are quick," Li Cheng said with a smile.
"Not at all, it's all thanks to Young Master Li's generosity, otherwise how could we have arrived first?"
"Indeed, we hope Young Master Li won't hold it against us."
The two apologized.
Li Cheng, not one to be petty, didn't dwell on the matter and turned his attention to the grand hall.
The hall was constructed entirely of dark purple stone, the same material as the entrance to the ancient tomb.
The lower part of the hall was carved with people kneeling in prayer, the middle with intricate spells, and above that was a blurred face, seated on an altar.
He now understood why Huang and Zheng hadn't opened the hall doors to proceed, choosing instead to wait for him.
The hall was indeed strange.
The carvings clearly mimicked the masses worshiping a Buddha.
But the effect presented was nothing like worshiping a Buddha.
It was more like worshiping a ghost.
