CHAPTER 364: Shopping
CHAPTER 364: Shopping
It was already late when we finally arrived at the inn. The amount of undead I had with me caught some attention but my licence and Helena's name were enough to satisfy the owner. After getting our rooms we had dinner, followed by a nice bath.
The next morning at breakfast we made plans for the day.
"So, I don't remember a specific shop but I know the area where we will find some nice clothes." Helena said.
"Oh, I could do with some more neckwear. Rose, what do you think about a dark green bowtie?" He asked.
"Hm, I would go with a lighter green. Are you pairing it with a different colour on your other neck?" She asked.
"I am thinking blue…" Garm replied.
My ears drooped as I heard their excitement.
"I guess I could get a warmer jacket." Cassie mused, then she looked at Skadi. "You could get more sleeveless clothes so you have better access to your spellblade runes. Maybe a leather vest with some warm comfy fur?"
Skadi shrugged. "Sure. I don't mind if my arms are a bit colder and I would wear a mantel over it anyway. I can ditch a mantel quickly if I need to touch my runes."
"Shopping it is, I guess…" I muttered.
"You could use a more extensive wardrobe and we are getting some money for the bounty." Hatsumi suggested. "You are mostly wearing your uniform but It would not hurt to have other options for socialising. Especially since you want to visit Valeria's family during the break."
"A splendid idea." Kaito agreed.
And so I found myself getting dragged into another shopping trip. The city itself was nice, at least. Most buildings used stone for the ground floor and wood for the upper floor. It was a nice day with the sun shining at the snow covered roofs.
Our first stop was a decent shop that catered to wealthier families. However, the quality seemed nice and not too overpriced. Rose was delighted to get more clothes, after I assured her it was ok to spend some money.

She tried a few dresses but especially seemed to love some good quality pants combined with a blouse, or a shirt. Interestingly she also inquired about neckwear and hats.
"Oh, what about this?"
I turned around and saw Helena holding a light blue shirt dress. It had a collar, short sleeves and was long enough to cover the knees.
"I think it would look good on you. The colour suits you and fits your House." I replied. "It's not really appropriate for the season though."
"It will be spring soon. It is a bit late to shop for winter. Your case might be an exception though, you need more clothes in general." Helena replied. "You know, the same dress would look good on you in a darker blue."
"How about something with pants?" I suggested instead. "I do prefer pants, they are more practical."
"True, but clothes are not just there to be practical." Helena pointed out.
Sadly I could not entirely disagree. I did not mind Helena in a dress, or a skirt. Then again, she also looked great in her uniform.
"Ok, I will buy one dress but I will also get one outfit with pants." I agreed.
Helena grinned, then she stepped in front of me and gave me a quick kiss. It helped to distract me from the fact that I had agreed to only buy one dress, but I had not specified how many I would try on. It was a great mistake.
However, two hours later, I was the exhausted owner of a new shirt dress. It matched Helena's except for the colour. Mine was a rather dark blue, while hers was rather light, more like turquoise, matching her eyes.
Sadly I was not done yet, as I had agreed to buy something else that included pants. I settled with a dark purple blouse and simple black pants. I had to admit I liked how it looked on me. Helena had a good eye when it came to clothing. Of course, my purchases had to be modified to accommodate a tail, but there was a seamstress present and it was free of charge.
Because it was still cold right now I also bought a warm wool coat. It was black with some silver buttons and perfect for the weather. That way I did not have to rely on the academy coat.
After I was done with my own purchases I had time to check on my undead. Rose was currently wearing black pants, a deep red shirt and a black tie. Garm looked approvingly at her neckwear. The orthos wore a blue bowtie on his left neck and a green one on his right neck. He went with a lighter green, as Rose had suggested.
"I think I like this." Rose said, while looking at a mirror. "I did like the red dress too."
"We can get both." Hatsumi offered.
"We should get you more than one set. And you should get something sturdy if we go hunting." I added. "Maybe a linen shirt and some sturdy pants. Something we can easily fix if they get torn."
Rose smiled and nodded. It seemed that she enjoyed shopping, at least when it came to clothes.
Cassie and Skadi finished their own shopping and we all met for a late lunch. Helena found us a nice tavern where I ordered a crispy pork knuckle with some potatoes on the side. It was a nice treat after all the shopping. We sampled the local beer as well which rounded out the meal.
Afterwards we went for a walk through the city. Granstone did not have any particular attractions but I enjoyed the fresh air. As we wandered through the streets I noticed a sign.
"Hey, it's the adventurers guild." I said, while pointing at the sign. "Do you think they will sell any corpses?"
"We can try." Helena replied.
Back in Lupos the prices had been rather high, perhaps I could get a better deal around here? If nothing else it was good to have a comparison. Also, buying corpses for interesting undead was way more exciting than clothes shopping.
