Chapter 392 - 391: I Refuse

"Visit?"

The word left Mazuru’s lips like a blade.

His voice was calm, but the edge within it was unmistakable. "So you break into my Hueco Mundo, in my Las Noches without permission, start a war with my subordinates, cause deaths in my court... and call it a visit?"

The sarcasm in his tone was sharper than his sword.

Askin’s face twisted. The others—Bazz-B, Cang Du, and Quilge—shifted uneasily, their pride colliding with the truth.

Before facing Mazuru, none of them had taken Hueco Mundo seriously.

Even when Tousen Kaname had slain Mask, even when Ulquiorra had forced Askin to reveal his Vollständig and Gift Bereich, they’d dismissed it as weakness on the arrancars’ side.

After all, the Sternritters were numerous—more than twice the size of the Gotei 13. It was inevitable that some of their own members were "parallel imports", as Bazz-B liked to call them: less refined, less competent.

But strength in numbers bred arrogance.

Their real objective wasn’t an alliance. It never was.

They had come to test, to measure, and—if the test failed—to enslave.

They’d even justified it with a neat phrase: "Weighing Hueco Mundo’s qualification for alliance."

Now, that conceit was shattered.

Mazuru had erased Askin’s Gift Bereich, ignored the Gift Ring, and severed Cang Du’s arm despite his vaunted Iron. Bazz-B’s flames, even in full Vollständig, had been extinguished like candlelight.

Quilge, who hadn’t even fought, found himself bound all the same—his reishi cage irrelevant in the face of Mazuru’s crimson barrier.

They finally understood the truth: if the King of Hueco Mundo had willed it, he could have immobilized all of them the moment he appeared.

When Askin had first spoken, he’d still been testing the blood mist’s strength, struggling to free himself. But the bindings did not yield. They constricted.

Worse—he couldn’t feel the ambient reishi anymore.

The quincies’ greatest advantage was their ability to draw spirit particles from their surroundings, converting them into power. But now, that power was gone.

The reishi of the world no longer responded to them. Even the spirit seeds within their own veins were drying up, burning out like dying embers.

They were no longer quincy. Not soldiers. Not warriors.

Just men.

Askin exhaled slowly, regaining composure through sheer effort.

He inclined his head slightly, forcing his tone calm. "If we offended you by trespassing into Las Noches without permission, then on behalf of the Wandenreich, I apologize. But understand—we had our reasons for engaging your subordinates."

"Oh?" Mazuru’s eyes glinted faintly. "And what reason would justify slaughter?"

Askin swallowed, forcing a thin smile. "Through battle, we could gauge the true strength of Hueco Mundo—and decide whether you are qualified to stand as our allies."

Mazuru’s eyes narrowed, the air trembling faintly around him. "So you came seeking an alliance?"

The tone was soft—but the pressure it carried made Askin’s chest seize. His heartbeat slowed. His throat dried.

The others felt it too. Even Bazz-B’s breath hitched.

Under that gaze, Askin truly believed he might die.

He had faced death countless times before. His ability—calculating lethal doses, exchanging mortality itself—meant he had lived through battles others wouldn’t dare fight.

But this... this was different.

Against Mazuru, even death itself obeyed another law.

And if he died here, his Gift Bereich would not grow stronger; it would simply cease to exist.

He had no leverage, no fallback, no poison to trade for survival.

Forcing a breath, Askin straightened. "That’s right. We came... for an alliance."

The words tasted bitter, but at least they bought him time. And truthfully, looking at Mazuru’s power, he now believed it. This man could stand as an ally of Yhwach’s empire—if not an equal.

Mazuru tilted his head, almost curious. "An alliance, is it?"

Then his eyes flickered, thoughtful. "Interesting. If I remember correctly... two hundred years ago, the Soul Society launched a purge against the quincy. There should be almost none of you left in this world."

His gaze sharpened. "Yet now, a whole army of you emerges—and even speaks of a ’Majesty’. Who, I wonder, is this majesty you serve?"

At that, Askin’s expression changed. For the first time, something close to pride returned to his voice.

"We come from the Wandenreich, the Invisible Empire." he said. "And our Majesty is the progenitor of the quincy—the supreme king himself. His Majesty, Yhwach!"

He lifted his chin slightly, savoring the name. "It was by his decree that we came—to seek alliance with you, the King of Hueco Mundo."

"Yhwach...?" Mazuru’s brows rose faintly. The name rolled off his tongue like a memory dredged from an ancient abyss.

He closed his eyes for a moment, recalling. "Ah, yes... a thousand years ago. There was such a quincy. He led your kind in war against the Soul Society—and fell by Yamamoto Genryusai’s blade."

The mention of that war twisted the expressions of every Sternritter present.

Bazz-B’s eyes flickered downward. Cang Du clenched his teeth. Even Quilge’s composure cracked for a heartbeat.

They had lived that war. They remembered the flames that erased armies, the roar of Ryūjin Jakka turning their fields to ash.

Askin forced a thin smile. "His Majesty did suffer setbacks in that age... but he has returned—stronger than ever. Soon, he will lead us to avenge that loss."

He looked up again, a gleam of ambition in his eyes. "And you, Kyo Mazuru, have every reason to join us. After all, the Soul Society is your enemy too, isn’t it? One day, you’ll clash again. Together, we could erase them—Gotei 13 and all."

The blood mist hummed softly around them, reflecting red light across Mazuru’s face. His expression was unreadable.

For a long time, he said nothing.

Then, finally, his voice came—quiet, almost thoughtful. "Destroy the Soul Society together, hmm? It does sound like a compelling offer."

He paused. The faintest smile curved his lips.

"But," he said, his tone turning cold, "I refuse."

The temperature in the air dropped.
