Chapter 40
Chapter 40
She fixed her gaze on the floor. Taking off the rose-tinted glasses she had put on herself – it hurt. She felt as if she had been thrown out onto the street in freezing weather like a wretched dog, facing certain death.
Samael slowly loosened his grip. Inside, everything was boiling; he wanted to tear Amos to shreds, to see his blood and the look of his twisted face from suffering. But Lina was more important. He turned to the girl, gathered her into his arms, burying his nose in her hair. He could feel she was on the brink of an emotional breakdown. She was about to cry.
But his own throat was constricted with a spasm. As if someone had tightened a noose around it and was slowly squeezing, forcing air from his lungs. And it felt so disgusting... He had fallen in love for the first time in his life, and now... their relationship was doomed to tragedy.
If he could, he would trade places with her. Die himself, just so the girl could live. So she could feel how beautiful life is and how many different pleasures the earth conceals. So she could see the dawn at the sea, reach the top of the highest mountain, experience happiness to the fullest.
Samael wouldn’t even mind if Lina fell in love with someone, created a family she never had. Yes, he was a selfish, cold, cruel dark one, ready to give his beloved girl to another, just for her to be happy and alive. Love is a marvelous force; it changes, makes him different. Completely different.
"I didn’t invent this theory," Amos finally spoke up. "I have nothing to do with it. When the book of prophecies was written, I saw clear visions. The world will perish... But I’m not the only prophet that exists. In Elysium lives a light one who became the creator of the idea about Lina’s death. Maybe he’s right. However, that changes nothing. Everything will happen as it must happen. Sometimes we become hostages of circumstances and cannot do anything about it, no matter how badly we want to."
The man ran his hand through his hair, tucked in his shirt, and returned to the desk to read the book.
The conversation was over.
For a few more minutes, Samael and Lina sat still. The girl closed her eyes and fought against the feeling of despair, which, like a tsunami, engulfed her completely. It seemed that with every moment, the world was losing its colors. Happiness, joy, emotions were disappearing. Instead, sorrow – black as mire – ensnared her in its damp web. And there was no escape. From that abyss of pain and suffering.
"Let’s go," he whispered in her ear.
He gently touched her face with his hand. He took her chin, compelling her to look straight into his eyes:
"I will figure something out. Everything will be fine with you."
There was so much confidence in his gaze. As if he had just decided: no matter what happens next, he would do everything possible to ensure Lina’s happiness.
And the girl believed him. She had no other choice. Sam was the only one she would follow into fire and water. So if he says everything will be fine, she must believe. She must. Believe.
She nodded, forcing out a weak smile. If she suffered all the time, it wouldn’t give him strength to fight. They had to fight.
They got up and walked out into the corridor without looking back.
Where to go now? What to do? Unknown. But they definitely had to do something. Staying in one place for too long was dangerous. They could be found and caught at any moment. So Sam stopped, considering a course of action.
"We'll go back to Earth. Find a safe place and hide there from the whole world. There are still two weeks until October thirty-first!" Lina said, looking into the man’s eyes.
The least she wanted now was to experience various twists and turns again, escape, danger. She was fed up. All of it was tiresome. She wanted peace and Samael beside her.
"Not quite two weeks..." the dark one sighed sadly.
"Meaning?"
"Maybe you noticed, the prophet mentioned that time here flows a little differently. One day in Abaddon equals a week on Earth."
"A week??? – Lina was beyond astonished. – How?? Oh no, we need to get out of here immediately."
She anxiously began to look around. Naively hoping to see stairs surrounded by fire that would lead her up to the people. However, they weren’t there.
"We'll do that, darling, but we'll have to use the power of words, and that’s dangerous," Samael embraced the girl around the waist, pulling her close.
There truly was no choice. Time was passing inexorably, slipping through their fingers like sand. If they stayed in Abaddon for two days, it would all be lost.
"Will Leonard find us?" she asked, knowing in advance the answer would be affirmative.
"Yes."
"Damn," she cursed, embracing her beloved. "Why is it all like this, Sam? Why so many problems around?"
"I don't know, Lina. I don't know."
The dark one was already set to use the power of words to get them out of the prison and Abaddon in short order, but he was stopped by the sound of heels.
A stunning brunette was walking down the corridor. A small nose, plump lips lined with red lipstick, green cunning eyes. The embodiment of many men’s dreams. Her figure also matched the image of a fatal beauty. Tall, slender, her hips and breasts protruding, tightly wrapped in a revealing lace dress. It seemed that even if this "walking sex" were dressed in rags, she would still look like a queen.
"Going somewhere, darling," she said sweetly. "Aren't you planning to greet your fiancée?"
"Marguerite..." Samael whispered, realizing he was truly in trouble.
