Kill Me, My Love

Chapter 10

Chapter 10

– About what?

– About various things. Do you always talk so much while driving? – the girl frowned.

– I can drive with my eyes closed, – the dark one boasted. – Watch.

He immediately closed his eyes and let his hands off the wheel.

– No! Don’t! What are you doing?! Crazy!!! – the girl gasped in panic.

But in reality, nothing terrible happened. Although Sam wasn’t looking at the road and didn’t touch the steering wheel, the car kept moving, smoothly switching to the adjacent lane and stopping at the traffic light.

– Devilish machine, – Samael grinned widely, resuming control of the vehicle. – But there’s no pleasure in driving like that.

– Don’t do that again, – she replied, having barely avoided a heart attack in those few minutes.

– Agreed, – the dark one said. – By the way, we’re almost there.

Samael parked the car near a wide metal bridge. And as soon as the engine stopped growling, someone knocked on the door. The stranger was dressed in white pants and a white shirt.

– Uriel? – the dark one asked in surprise, and opening the door, stepped out into the parking lot. – What are you doing here? Where's Nathan?

– I want to ask you the same thing... Yesterday he made contact, said he would handle the attack in Portland. Then around noon, you were supposed to meet at this location and proceed further to carry out the mission. But Nathaniel is not here.

The man's voice was low and authoritative, as if he was used to giving orders that brooked no argument.

– I don’t know anything. We were supposed to meet him here, – the dark one replied.

– Is the target on site?

– The target? – Sam didn’t get what he meant at first, but following the bright one’s gaze, he realized who Uriel was referring to. – Lina is in the car. And she is not a target.

– Great. The Elders still don’t know what to do. We shouldn’t linger, but without Nathaniel, we won’t allow you to proceed.

– What? Don’t trust us? – Samael sneered.

– We don’t trust you, – the bright one replied tersely. – Wait here while a meeting is taking place. As soon as something is decided, I’ll let you know.

Uriel crossed his arms over his chest and said:

– Sursum.

After that, his body was enveloped in a pillar of light, in which he simply dissolved.

– Let’s not delay, – the dark one said immediately, returning to the car. – While these winged ones are busy chatting, we need to find Nathan.

– What was that just now? – Lina asked in astonishment.

– Their tricks.

Sam started the car and quickly gained speed.

– Where are we going?

– You can only find Nathaniel in Portland in three places: a gay bar, the black market, and at home, – Samael replied, – I suggest we start with his apartment, and then we’ll see...

– What do you think, why hasn’t he shown up? – the girl asked, wondering how fast one small car could go.

– This mission is his only chance to return to Elysium, so something serious must have happened.

– And why would he want to go back there? – the girl continued to inquire.

– Love-sigh. There, – the dark one pointed at the sky, – sits the bright one he is hopelessly in love with. And you’re a smart girl, so you should understand that relationships there are not at all welcomed, and non-traditional ones even more so. Thus, Nathaniel is serving his punishment on Earth. Though it seems to me he actually likes it here... But he would never admit that.

Samael was focused on the road, his long fingers gripping the steering wheel tightly, and his breathing was quick and ragged, as if he were enjoying the new adventure.

– And are dark ones also banned from relationships?

– If they are perverse, then no, – the man smiled, looking intently at Lina. – But if you’re talking about love like in Shakespeare, then there will only be one ending – bottoms in a cauldron of molten lava, so that next time they think twice.

– Cruel, – the girl smiled and immediately imagined Sam sitting in a cauldron, squealing in pain.

She really liked that image.

– It is what it is. In principle, our people don’t complain. And why are you asking? Do you have plans? – the dark one made a sharp turn and the car entered a district with expensive luxurious mansions surrounded by high fences and alarm systems.

– No, just curious how it was with my parents...

– Lilith was the one who invented that ban a few thousand years ago. A cruel irony of fate, isn’t it? – Samael asked, observing Lina’s reaction.

– Did you know my mother? – she was astonished.

For the girl, there was nothing more important than information about her relatives. Having lived her whole life in isolation, among strangers, she gathered any mentions of her parents bit by bit.

– Everyone knew her in one way or another, – the man replied. – She was the princess of darkness and a damn sexy woman. But no one is safe from the madness of hormones, not even kings...

– What was she like? – the girl asked passionately. – Can you describe her? I’ve looked in the mirror hundreds of times and tried to guess which of my features come from my father and which from my mother...

– You are both similar to her and not similar. The shape of the face, full lips, figure... You definitely inherited that from Lilith, but your eyes, contemplative gaze, that’s from Nakir. But, Lina, they are them. And you are you. Don’t compare, – the man said, gazing at the rows of identical white houses and finally, spotting the right one, he stopped the car.

– Why?

– Identifying yourself with your parents is a bad thing. You are a separate whole personality, unique, beautiful. If circumstances had been different...

Suddenly he leaned sharply toward the girl’s seat. The man burned her with his dark gaze. In it burned a fire of passion and a spark of teasing. Any woman would have melted instantly from such closeness... Meanwhile, the dark one scorched her with his hot, slightly minty breath, then with his finger tucked a strand of silvery hair behind her ear.

– We’ve arrived. Get out, – his perfect mouth broke into a wide smile.

Lina didn’t breathe for a few seconds. And the dark one pulled back as suddenly as he had leaned in, and managed to get out of the car. So the girl had to tame her wild hormones and step outside too.
