Chapter 132: OP Duo (Episode 1)
Chapter 132: OP Duo (Episode 1)
"What are you implying? There is no possible way for a human to escape this trap. Stop bluffing. You are as good as dead." The monster exclaimed, unimpressed by the sound.
"Dead?" Midas scoffed, "I have a giant mosquito floating in the sky that could pick me up at any moment. But that wasn’t what concerned me. What made me worry was that I wouldn’t be able to defeat you. Death was never even a possibility." Midas said, beginning to slowly walk forward.
The bounty zone boss looked down at the young man’s feet and noticed that the floor was not changing at all.
"W-what?" He muttered, at a loss as well now.
"But since you revealed the secret to your little ability... You are the one who is now as good as dead." Midas said, "You see... I have recently obtained the ability to control the pace of my heart!" He announced with a smile.
"Y-you’re lying!" The boss monster stepped back slightly with shock.
"Even you yourself don’t believe that... do you?" Midas smirked, "You are the one who is scared now... right?" He taunted.
The fire spirit flinched slightly.
"You’re wondering why the stone isn’t melting," Midas said as he approached.
The lava beast took a step back, his eyes darting from Midas’s face to his feet back and forth.
"And you are beginning to believe that I actually can control my heartbeat." Midas finally said.
"Fool!" The fire spirit suddenly roared, "That trick is not all I can do--" He was cut off.
Midas’s blade slashed directly across his neck, decapitating the beast instantly.
[You have slain a Magma Maker!]
[You have leveled up!]
[You have leveled up!]
Midas instantly allocated his stat points.
[Vitality: 27/27-->29/29]
[Stamina: 26/26-->28/28]
He knelt down beside the beast’s corpse, observing it closely.
’It must have only been at the peak of Aspect Beast Tier if I were to guess. Still, being such a rare creature, it was very powerful.’ Midas carved out the beast’s core.
"I forgot to take the Water Drake’s... but I’ll just retrieve it when I reunite with Yemo and the others," Midas muttered under his breath.
But then, the core of the beast disappeared from his hands.
[You are not permitted to keep any valuables dropped by boss creatures within the competition.]
’I see...’ He stood, ’Whatever.’ He thought, turning to face the center of the stone floor.
There, a glowing flag appeared out of thin air. Midas began making his way over to the flag.
’Hmm... what a disappointment. I wanted to test my combat, not my brain.’ He thought to himself as he walked, ’Now who should I have defend this bounty zone flag? As soon as I place it down, I will gain the points...’
Right when he was about to grab the flag, he noticed a pebble on the ground rattle slightly.
He stopped, scanning the scene with a serious gaze.
There was no time he could be carefree, since his life was on the line at all times here.
Out of nowhere, the pebble began to morph! The transformation was not long. Within 0.1 seconds, the pebble turned into a full-grown human!
It was Toshy, a fat and stubby man with a cunning smirk on his face.
"How’s it going, bud?" He asked in a mocking tone, leaning beside the flagpole.
Midas’s brows furrowed with confusion, "Who the hell are you?" He asked, "And where did you come from?"
"Me? I go by Toshy... we’re here to butcher you, you see. This bounty zone flag here is worth 200 points, so we will be taking it from your hands." Toshy said with unwavering confidence, as if he had already won the battle.
Midas raised an eyebrow, "We? Who are you with?" He asked.
"My friend over there..." Toshy plainly pointed toward the forest line.
There, Urus stood three school bus lengths away. He stared at Midas with a blank expression while standing still.
"This is an odd setup..." Midas muttered, "You two must be the ones who were planning on trailing me."
Toshy’s smile turned into a frown as he heard those abrupt words, "W-what?" He then chuckled again as he said, "You heard us? Jeez... you really are a problem. Good thing Toshy and Urus are your enemies now, so no other player needs to worry about dealing with you."
"Huh?" Midas said in a low tone, "What makes you so confident?" He raised his right Black Reaper and pointed it straight at Toshy’s face.
Toshy grinned even more.
"You see... Urus and I have fairly weak abilities when used on their own. It’s not like our abilities are pathetic or anything. They can be used to defeat powerful foes with enough planning... but they aren’t so practical like most other abilities." Toshy explained as Midas listened.
"However... when put together, our abilities create a power strong enough to defeat any person that exists on Fell-Terra... if not the known universe." Toshy’s look was devious.
Midas’s eyelids narrowed with skepticism, "Is that so?" He said, walking forward.
Toshy didn’t move, simply gesturing for Midas to come closer with his fingers.
Midas didn’t hesitate to move. He lunged forward, slashing at Toshy’s neck.
Right before the blade made contact, Toshy disappeared into thin air!
Midas looked left and right with confusion, "Huh? Where the..."
"Over here!" Toshy yelled from behind, chuckling.
Midas sprinted forward, piercing forward at the stubby man once more.
Again, Toshy appeared at what seemed to be a random location on the stone floor.
"Tsk!" Midas sucked his upper teeth in frustration.
’What in the world is going on? Is his ability simply teleportation!? No... that is too powerful of an ability. It didn’t seem like he was lying earlier when he said his and Urus’s abilities were weak. Unless he was trying to reverse bluff me, there isn’t any other reason he would say that their abilities are weak.’ Midas moved slowly, his eyes surveying each part of the area.
’It must be something else. Something I am not realizing. Some sort of external factor.’ Midas scanned the entire floor.
’There isn’t anything. The corpse... the flag... and nothing else except for a few stones and pebbles here and there.’ He paused, ’Stones and pebbles...’ A realization came to him.
’When Toshy first appeared, a stone vibrated.’ Midas glanced toward the closest stone to him, ’Maybe it isn’t teleportation,’ He then looked at Toshy, ’But switching places with another object.’
He decided to test his theory out, running toward Toshy and attempting to slash at him again.
Toshy once again disappeared, but this time, Midas turned to face exactly where the fat man had gone.
’As I thought.’ Midas said inwardly, seeing that Toshy had appeared exactly where the stone had been.
’It seems he laid out these stones before I arrived here. It would make sense, since these two have been tracking me from before the event began.’ Midas surmised.
