Chapter 475: The Unspeakable Castel Ⅲ
Chloe: 〖?〗
Isaac: “Chief, why are you trapped here too?!”
Chloe: 〖???〗
Isaac: “There’s no time to explain! Don’t worry, Chief, I’ll definitely get you out of here!!”
Chloe: 〖?!?!?!???〗
Chloe: 〖Wait, you...〗
Before Chloe could respond, Isaac closed the diary with a snap, stuffed it into his coat pocket, and turned to run!
A moment later, a short Banshee struggled her way up from below onto the rooftop. She stood there dumbfounded, staring as Isaac ran off with Chloe.
Monica’s expression was one of total collapse. She shouted in frustration, “How could he just run away! How could he just run away! I was only missing a patient to take care of for the medical team assessment—how am I supposed to pass if my patient runs away?! If I fail, I can’t join the medical team—then how am I supposed to get to the Northlands?!”
She pulled at her hair, hesitated for a long while, and then chased after him anyway.
If she could bring the patient back, maybe she could still earn some points.
Isaac leapt down from the chapel roof, landing in a pile of hay by the street. A moment later, he climbed out, chose a direction away from the chapel, and bolted forward.
The place looked like a city. Both sides of the street were lined with ordinary houses, and farther off, he could see city walls and several fortresses.
If it was just an ordinary city, there were far too many defenses; if it was a fortress, it was absurdly large. Even the two straight streets ahead were bigger than any city Isaac had ever known.
It should have been a shocking discovery—but after witnessing so many bizarre things inside the chapel, Isaac felt completely numb.
Only the massive bulges along the streets seemed strange. Some sort of crops appeared to be growing on top of them.
Isaac’s expression shifted slightly—those plants looked oddly familiar.
Weren’t those the same gigantic crops from the greenhouse?!
They were smaller here, perhaps, but still far larger than normal wheat or barley—clearly those same grotesque, polluted creations!
Wait!
If those were polluted crops, then what was beneath those bulges...
Isaac extended his Investigator senses just a little—and instantly recoiled in shock.
Sure enough! Flowing beneath was living Entity Pollution!
A muscle in Isaac’s face twitched. This place was disturbingly abnormal—terrifying things hidden even beneath ordinary streets!
Would the inhabitants here feel no fear, living right beside such pollution?
No... Could the residents of such a dreadful place even be normal humans?
A chill ran down Isaac’s spine. He withdrew his senses and focused on running through the streets.
He vaguely sensed someone tailing him—but the pursuer was slow. He could still escape!
After turning a few corners, Isaac suddenly spotted something odd on the ground.
Two long iron rods lay side by side, connected underneath by rows of wooden beams.
That thing...
Isaac narrowed his eyes, recalling something from memory.
“A tramway?”
He had seen tramways back in Rhine—an in-vogue invention said to carry heavier loads and run more smoothly, though expensive to maintain, making them rare.
The tracks under his feet looked similar, only more prominent.
Recognizing them, Isaac didn’t dwell on it. He simply followed the rails straight ahead. Following the tram tracks should at least keep him out of dead ends, right?
Some people nearby seemed to notice him, calling out. Isaac quickly covered his ears.
No way. Who knew if the people here were even human? In his unstable state, hearing something he shouldn’t might shatter his cognition entirely.
He kept running along the tracks—until a strange tremor rippled through the ground beneath his feet.
A tremor?
Was it a sensory glitch?
No—the ground really was shaking, rhythmic and steady, as though something massive was pounding the earth.
Isaac hesitated, then cautiously reopened his sense of hearing—
滴!!!!
A deafening steam whistle split the air.
Isaac whirled around in horror—an enormous rectangular steel beast was barreling straight toward him at terrifying speed. Behind its iron head stretched a serpent-like body, each segment forged from steel. The sight made him dizzy.
A steel serpent... this actually existed?
So this truly was the Steel God’s Kingdom!
A moment later, Isaac’s body was struck with a tremendous bang and burst apart into countless glowing threads.
Farther down the rails, his body reformed. He stood there warily, watching the metallic serpent roar past before finally letting out a breath.
He didn’t know what that steel creature was—but at least it hadn’t noticed him.
Isaac exhaled again.
This place was far too dangerous!
He staggered a step. He was already in bad shape, and forcing his abilities again had drained him. Movement was growing difficult.
With what little strength he had left, Isaac hid in a corner, looked up at the sky, and let out a bitter laugh.
He couldn’t hold on much longer. Behind him, pursuers; around him, madness. Perhaps there truly was no escape.
Taking out Chloe’s diary from his pocket, Isaac bit his finger and wrote inside:
〖Uh, could you not keep me in the same pocket as that corn? It keeps bumping into me—the cover hurts...〗
“Sorry, Chief Chloe. I might not be able to get you out of here.”
〖Where were you planning to take me?〗
“Of course, to Castel!”
〖Ah? I’m getting hung up again?〗
A faint light flickered in Isaac’s eyes, but then he frowned in confusion. “Chief, how did you die?”
Chloe’s handwriting suddenly grew wild and jagged:
〖Don’t mention it! The biggest regret of my life was dying!! Do you know what I went through after that!!!〗
Her emotions seemed to surge straight through the paper—words heavy with fury and despair.
Isaac instinctively held the diary farther away. Such an intense reaction left him speechless.
What horrors had the Chief endured to make her react like this...
Given how bizarre and dreadful this place was, her suffering must have been unimaginable.
Isaac straightened his back. “You’ve suffered enough, Chief. I swear on my life—I’ll get you back to Castel! I’ll return you to His Lordship, even if it costs me everything!”
For a while, the diary stayed still.
Then two bold words appeared upon the page.
〖Don’t send.〗
