Chapter 52 : “I will kill you”

Chapter 52: “I will kill you”

Ferocious!

A cold wind swept in.

A mountain-toppling spear had, without anyone noticing, arrived behind True Person Han Qiu and stabbed straight at her heart.

Clang!

True Person Han Qiu seemed prepared; she used her sword to prop the spear up.

“Han Qiu Daofriend, you were secretly guarding against me.”

“Heh! Our Jade Palace kindly came to debate the Dao with your Canglan Sect, and hardly had the debate begun when trouble broke out.

Does your Canglan Sect take me for a fool?”

Cold-lotus blossoms erupted beneath Han Qiu’s feet, then transformed into a sword.

A sword born from a lotus — the Lotus-Sword!

True Person Zhu Lu involuntarily retreated several steps.

Weapons gained strength with length; a spear was naturally stronger than a sword, but at their level a weapon was merely ornament — the final contest was between each one’s methods and Dao.

And this place was, after all, the Jade Palace — the home ground of the Three True Persons of the Jade Palace — so Han Qiu’s Dao was naturally a few degrees stronger here.

“Once I capture you, I’ll go seek out True Person Han Ze and teach Han Yi, that traitor of the palace, a lesson!”

True Person Han Qiu leapt into the air; her myriad sword techniques converged into a single downward force, pressing against True Person Zhu Lu’s great spear with the weight of what felt like ten thousand mighty blows.

The stones beneath Zhu Lu’s feet cracked inch by inch, and the more distant peaks were shattered outright by that strike.

“Han Qiu Daofriend is indeed formidable!”

He had to spin, then stomp the ground fiercely, using his momentum to push the spear forward.

Han Qiu paid him no heed; she leapt, her icy kick sweeping directly to Zhu Lu’s face, followed by a move called White Cloud Settling Sword that detonated a shockwave.

She pressed her hands together and uttered, “Condense!”

From True Person Zhu Lu’s body bloomed a Dao-flower that sucked at life-force, as if it would drain him dry.

True Person Zhu Lu barked, “If I don’t act now, must I let this old bone die beneath her sword?”

Panic flared.

True Person Han Qiu had to, in an instant, pull back several feet.

Around them, a teeth-grinding cracking sound suddenly arose.

“Zhu Lu Daofriend’s spear technique is not bad — this should make for a fine show,”

A group of gaunt elders appeared behind True Person Han Yi; one of them carried an enormous coffin on his back.

With a thud the coffin hit the ground and a tide of black qi spilled out, countless spiders and centipedes crawling from within.

True Person Han Qiu watched coldly, then sent another enormous sword-light cleaving toward the two.

True Person Withered Corpse said, “Stubborn fool!”

His body swelled in the wind and soon became a gaunt giant; the giant split open its chest to reveal sharp teeth and swallowed Han Qiu’s sword-qi whole.

“Huh?”

When the two looked again toward Han Qiu, she was already gone.

On her home ground, one against one Han Qiu might have been confident in killing True Person Zhu Lu, but one against two the situation reversed completely — so she fled directly, to seek True Person Han Ze.

“Running off quick enough.”

True Person Withered Corpse bared his yellowed teeth, “Then according to our agreement, I’ll take this Heaven-Purifying True Lotus first.”

A marvel like the Heaven-Purifying True Lotus could not be taken casually; one had to use a special method to seal the cold qi, otherwise wherever the lotus went would turn into glacier, and anyone touching it would have their eight meridians frozen and lose all life.

By chance, True Person Withered Corpse had such a tool.

He had refined his coffin for many years, using tens of thousands of corpses to complete a Soul-Locking Coffin.

Han Yi had already severed one chain; now he only needed a bit more effort to carry the Heaven-Purifying True Lotus away.

True Person Zhu Lu smiled and said, “Go ahead.”

True Person Withered Corpse entered the abyssal place.

After a while.

A fierce roar: “Who!? Who took the Heaven-Purifying True Lotus!?”

No one answered him.

Because—

The sky was turning blood-red; the stench of blood rose from the air.

~~~~~~~~~~~
“Did you really not lie to me, Young Master?”
Beneath the Jade Palace waterfall.
Lu Changyuan and Xia Lianxue’s forms slowly solidified.
Lu Changyuan said helplessly, “I didn’t lie to you — I truly will marry you.”
Xia Lianxue’s voice was as light as bird feathers: “Really? Not at all? Why not marry Su Youwan and Senior Sister too, Young Master... your fiancée wouldn’t mind, right?”
What a life-or-death question.
What would happen if he answered, ‘I’ll marry you all’?
The distant clamor and cries of battle had already come over; the sky was stained half red with blood, but it could not affect Lu Changyuan and Xia Lianxue.
“Don’t think too much. We’ll deal with the rest later.”
Lu Changyuan circulated the Supreme Pure-Spirit Forget-Immortal Technique to calm the little fairy’s heart.
Thump!
Xia Lianxue felt something beating; listening closely, it was her own heart.
She felt as if her heart would melt; she did not know why, but whenever she realized Lu Changyuan cared for her, all her emotions softened into water.
Xia Lianxue looked at Lu Changyuan gently; the moonlight fell on her, as if gilding her with a layer of divinity.
Lu Changyuan was about to ask what Drunken Red Luan truly was, when the rustle of bamboo leaves came from not far away — someone had arrived.
It was a woman carrying an enormous coffin.
True Person Han Yi had already retrieved the coffin-body of her lover and moved away from the center of the struggle.
She suddenly coughed up a mouthful of blood.
The array’s backlash had struck her twice in succession; the wounds from breaking the formation left her gasping for breath.
But in the end she was joyful; it had all been worth it.
Once this was settled, she would live with Lin Lang forever — so even if the array left her with incurable hidden wounds, what then?
Still, she needed a place to recuperate; but now the Jade Palace was in chaos — where could be quiet?
Of course, the Forbidden Area.
Usually no one came here; now that the Jade Palace was in utter disorder, even fewer would come.
Han Yi had already planned to recuperate here for one hour, then take her lover down the mountain and leave this place far behind.
She had even purchased fields in another nearby small state and built a house.
Everything went as she had planned.
Soon she would live the life she had longed for three hundred years ago.
But of all places — of all times! — she encountered the disciple left behind by True Person Hanshui!
True Person Han Yi shouted in fury, “Xia Lianxue, you actually did not die.”
The white-dressed fairy leaned against Lu Changyuan’s chest; only in his arms could she know that all this was real and not a dream.
But this peace was interrupted.
By the one who had ruined her cultivation with a vicious method.
Xia Lianxue reluctantly freed herself from Lu Changyuan’s embrace; the fondness in her eyes flashed away, and when she looked at True Person Han Yi again, her gaze was ice-cold.
She said softly, “Young Master, you said you’d bring me back to kill — to take revenge with my own hands. Will you watch me properly?”
Lu Changyuan stared, watching the fairy’s straight back and her black hair.
For a moment he thought Xia Lianxue resembled Qiu Yuehan.
Cold to the point of surprise.
As if the fairy who had been soft and warm in his arms had in an instant become a killing moon.
The autumn wind carried a trace of early cold.
Not cold, yet unbearably painful.
Xia Lianxue held her sword in one hand and faced True Person Han Yi; her lips were rose-red, a hint of color still on her cheeks, but her words were filled with murderous intent.
“‘I will kill you.’”
