Chapter 37
Chapter 37
37. Love Was Never a Choice
Dragons, as mythical creatures, had always existed at the top of the food chain.
In reality, the dragon race was one of the great powers of the universe. But after the witches rose to dominance, the dragons split into two factions. One was the Alliance faction, which went to the Galaxy to fight the witches.
The other was the witch faction. They willingly became the vanguard of the witches, a sharp blade thrust at the Alliance.
Perhaps because Nordlin was connected to the Primordial, the dragons here were also part of the witch faction.
Tiane revealed her true form. Her massive, agile body was sleek and graceful, her muscles taut with power. Her scales shimmered like silver, soft yet brilliant, reflecting dazzling light in the sun, as if she wore a suit of silver armor.
"Roar!"
Silver dragons were the kings of the dragon race. Tiane flew into the air and let out a deafening dragon's roar, accompanied by an overwhelming pressure that seemed to descend from the heavens.
This was dragon's majesty. Even other legendary creatures like vampires had to yield before it. How could Katya, merely a half-vampire, withstand it? Under the dragon's majesty, Katya's face turned pale as she collapsed on the ground, unable to move.
As for Ying, Yi, and An, they were human after all. Under the dragon's majesty, they were forced to reveal their forms, and Meng Lian was pulled from the shadows as well.
Meng Lian was also left dizzy and disoriented by the dragon's majesty. Fortunately, Tina caught the stumbling Meng Lian in time. With another silver dragon beside her, Meng Lian felt much better.
"Hmph, not even worth one blow."
Seeing that Katya couldn't even withstand her dragon's majesty, Tiane sneered. Then she landed behind Meng Lian, kicking up a cloud of dust.
"Dear, how should we deal with them?"
Meng Lian looked at Katya not far away, struggling on the ground, trying to crawl toward her. Her heart ached.
"Big Sister, Big Sister..."
Katya dragged her weak body, desperately crawling toward Meng Lian. But just then, a familiar citrus scent wafted over, and the tips of Meng Lian's feet appeared before her eyes.
"Big Sister, I knew you still had me in your heart. I knew..."
"Sigh, Katya."
A trace of pain flashed through Meng Lian's eyes. She looked back, and receiving Tina's signal that Katya had completely lost her ability to move, she gently pulled Katya into her arms.
"Wuu... Big Sister..."
Feeling the familiar soft embrace, Katya could no longer hold back. She began to sob quietly.
"Why did you leave me? Don't I love you enough? Why..."
Katya's tears soaked Meng Lian's chest. Meng Lian felt the cold wetness, just like her heart in this moment.
"Katya, your love is too twisted, too selfish. I really can't accept it."
"Then why can they? They've only known you for five days, but you chose them over me! Why! Why!"
Hearing Meng Lian's answer, Katya suddenly became agitated. Her body was completely paralyzed, so she could only glare furiously at the silver dragon sisters nearby.
"Pfft."
Tina stuck her tongue out at Katya. The now-dragon-formed Tiane also rolled her eyes very obviously.
"Miss Katya, although I don't know what story lies between you and dear, we would never say things like cutting off dear's limbs to keep dear with us forever."
Tiane's words struck Katya like lightning. "I just didn't want Big Sister to leave me. I wouldn't actually..."
"Katya, love is not a choice. Rather than saying I chose them, it's better to say that from the beginning, I never chose you."
Meng Lian gently stroked Katya's dazed face, her gaze complicated.
She had come partway through, but she had already guessed what happened before. Yelena had sensed Katya's feelings and couldn't accept them. Katya, to get Yelena, had imprisoned her and even drugged her. Then Meng Lian had taken Yelena's place and borne this undeserved suffering.
So from start to finish, it was just Katya's wishful thinking.
"Goodbye, Katya. I'll be away for a while. If Mother asks about me, please explain for me."
Meng Lian sighed. She carried the paralyzed Katya into the tree hollow, then walked toward the silver dragon sisters who had been waiting outside.
"No... don't leave me! Big Sister!"
Inside the tree hollow, Katya watched Meng Lian's silhouette at the entrance. In the sunlight, the other was like an angel descending to earth, beautiful and so yearned for.
But Meng Lian, hearing Katya's heart-wrenching cry, only paused for a moment. Without looking back, she took Tina's small hand on the dragon's back and climbed up.
Tiane flapped her massive wings, let out a proud cry, and flew toward the distance.
Goodbye, Katya. Your love was selfish and so fervent. But I'm not the person you wanted.
I'm just an outsider. If I could, I would return your sister Yelena to you. But I can't.
Sitting on the dragon's back, high in the air, the strong wind made the hair at Meng Lian's temples dance. She looked at the sun in the distant sky. Her golden pupils shimmered with an inexplicable light.
Nordlin was her chance to rise. She couldn't give it up. So, Yelena, I'm sorry. I'll need to borrow your body a while longer.
"Big Sister, don't leave me, wuu..."
Tiane hadn't used her full power after all. Before long in the tree hollow, Katya felt sensation return to her limbs. She shakily stood up and came out of the tree hollow. She looked up at the small black dot in the sky. The sorrow in her heart could no longer be held back. It burst forth like a broken dam. Her small face was covered in tears.
Yi: Hey hey hey, how long do we have to lie here?
Ying, Yi, and An cultivated the same technique and could communicate mentally. The three of them lay on the ground like three puddles of mud, having witnessed everything.
Ying: Let's wait until Master calls us to get up.
Yi: What a pity. Madam just left Master like that. Master must be so heartbroken.
An: Sigh, Master is too crazy. Girls just need to be coaxed. With Master being this crazy, it's not surprising Madam left.
Ying, Yi, An: Sigh...
"Alright, how long are you going to lie there?"
Katya had recovered. Her face was normal, as if everything that had just happened was an illusion. But the tear stains remaining on her face showed that it hadn't been a dream.
The three shadow guards were startled by Katya's words. They immediately rose and knelt on one knee, awaiting Katya's orders.
"Go home."
Unexpectedly, Katya was preparing to return. The three shadow guards were confused.
Ying: Master has thought it through?
An: Strange.
Yi: Had an epiphany?
Though filled with confusion, the three shadow guards respectfully responded.
"Yes!"
Katya didn't speak further. She spread her dark red bat wings and flew in the opposite direction from the Lord's Manor.
"Master, isn't the direction wrong?"
The three shadow guards hurriedly called out, but Katya didn't stop. She only left one sentence.
"No. Our target is the vampire race. The Blood Spirit Empire!"
What!
Hearing this, the three were shocked. The Blood Spirit Empire was the empire ruled by the vampires, one of the most powerful empires in Nordlin.
"Ying, return to the manor and handle the territory's affairs for me. Yi and An, follow me!"
"Yes!"
As deathsworn warriors, orders were everything. Soon, Yi and An transformed into two shadows and followed Katya's direction, while Ying raced in the opposite direction.
A determined glint flashed through Katya's gaze. She was a half-vampire. Half of her bloodline was vampire. Many blood magics were completely unusable for her. To thoroughly defeat those two silver dragons, she had to reclaim the other half of her vampire bloodline and become a full vampire. Only then could she win back Big Sister.
"Big Sister, I won't give up. Wait for me!"
