Chapter 20
Chapter 20
20. There Will Always Be Successors
"An Alliance undercover agent? Is that the Galaxy Alliance?"
"Hasn't the Galaxy Alliance surrendered yet? What's the point? The witches are so powerful. Surrendering and joining the witches isn't a bad thing."
"What a pity. Such a beautiful Senior Sister. What's so good about the Alliance? Why serve them?"
"Exactly, exactly."
"..."
The words of the people around her pierced Meng Lian's heart like steel needles. She lowered her head, her expression dark, clenching her teeth in secret.
You bunch of cowardly, filthy parasites! What right do you have to speak of the Alliance!
At least we haven't surrendered! At least we won't become playthings for the witches!
When the witches conquered other civilizations, the lucky ones became pets for powerful witches. Take the Sky Ring Tribe, for example. This race, known for its noble character, voluntarily signed a racial contract with a high-ranking witch before the witch army arrived, thus sparing themselves.
Of course, many races became cannon fodder for the witches, or consumables for resource extraction.
The ridiculous part was that after being conquered, these races held no hatred toward the witches. Instead, they developed a sense of worship and longing for them. And among them were many people from the Alliance.
Thirty thousand years ago, nine Immortal Emperors sacrificed their lives, using their flesh and blood to construct the Galaxy Wall spanning billions of light-years around the galaxy. Only because of this could the Galaxy Alliance linger on its last breath until today.
But anyone with eyes could see that the Wall couldn't hold much longer. Its breach seemed only a matter of time. Therefore, many within the Alliance defected, coming to enroll in the Witch Academy, hoping to become witches.
Thinking this far, the anger in Meng Lian's heart gradually extinguished, replaced by bitterness.
The Alliance's defeat was a foregone conclusion. Their desperate resistance had become nothing more than a clownish spectacle.
Although the words of those around her were harsh, they spoke the reality.
Before coming undercover, Meng Lian had also felt hesitation.
Even if she really stole some confidential intelligence, could it truly turn the tide of the war for the Alliance?
Clearly, the witches were also interested in this question.
In the holographic image, Anmir lifted Chen Li's head and asked with interest, "Student Chen Li, I admire your courage. But I must ask you one thing. What is the point of doing this? Now that you've been caught, what meaning does it have?"
Hearing this, a sneer appeared on Chen Li's face. "Heh. Someone has to do this. Even if I'm caught, there will always be successors!"
Anmir paused, then laughed loudly. "Hahaha, 'there will always be successors,' she says!"
"Students, you heard her. Although the Alliance is our enemy, we have to respect that courage."
Anmir stopped smiling and looked at the camera. Her profound gaze gave Meng Lian the illusion that she was being examined.
"I know that among our students, there are certainly some of these so-called successors. But we don't care."
"The witch race is open and inclusive. We welcome all races to join us, including Alliance soldiers."
"So, if anyone here is also an Alliance undercover agent, please don't hold back. You can tell us. We won't dwell on your past. We will genuinely accept you."
"Otherwise, once you are discovered, it will be too late for regrets."
Anmir revealed a look of pity. "I don't want to see another excellent student like Chen Li turn out to be an Alliance spy."
Is that so?
Meng Lian looked up at Anmir. Golden light flickered in her golden pupils.
Chen Li's words echoed in her mind. They were also the answer in her heart.
There will always be successors.
The Alliance's undercover plan had continued for hundreds of years. Many predecessors had already sacrificed their lives on this path.
Even if the path ahead was shrouded in darkness, they still moved forward without hesitation.
Before the dawn arrives, one must endure the long darkness.
On this journey, someone must become a spark to illuminate the way for those who come after.
And they, these successors, could only hide in the darkness, silently watching these sparks flash and fade, then throw themselves back into the darkness, continuing forward in the direction their predecessors pointed.
"Of course, I believe such people are in the minority. I also believe everyone sincerely joined the witches. Alright, I won't take up more of your valuable time. I wish all students prosperity in the magical arts, and I wish the new students success in passing the entrance exam."
Anmir finished speaking and turned off the holographic image. The atmosphere in the plaza eased.
"Phew, I thought it was something serious. What a waste of time we could be earning credits."
Shen Ning beside Meng Lian breathed a sigh of relief. She glanced at Meng Lian next to her and found her expression normal.
"Yeah, Alliance undercover agents are too far removed from us. This meeting was a pure waste of time."
Meng Lian stretched, displaying her proud curves. But for some reason, Shen Ning felt that something about Meng Lian seemed to have changed.
But when she looked back, she found that Meng Lian was the same as before. Just as alluring, just as beautiful.
Was it an illusion?
Shen Ning's doubt flashed past, and she didn't dwell on it. She started chatting with Meng Lian, and the atmosphere became cheerful.
Seeing this, Bai Wei didn't stop them. She waved her hand, and white light rose under everyone's feet. Soon they were back in the classroom.
"Alright, that was just a warning from the academy. Put away your little schemes. The witches welcome your membership."
Bai Wei swept her gaze over those who hadn't successfully transformed yet and frowned. "Also, it's already the fourth day. There isn't much time left. Those who haven't succeeded need to hurry."
With that, Bai Wei ignored the reactions below and walked away.
"Pfft, I bet a certain dog is really anxious right now."
Shen Ning heard this and laughed mischievously. She motioned with her chin toward someone behind Meng Lian. Meng Lian looked and saw a wolf-boy with freckles on his face.
"That's the Simp. See his expression? Haha, looking at him makes me happy."
Shen Ning looked gleeful.
Meng Lian found this a bit speechless.
Girl, you can't even suppress your smile.
"Oh right, Meng Lian, are you free tonight? The Witch House has an event tonight. Do you want to come check it out?"
Just then, Shen Ning suddenly leaned close to Meng Lian. The scent of lime filled her nose.
"Cough, cough. I don't have enough credits right now. Even if I wanted to go, I can't afford it. So never mind."
Meng Lian moved her gaze away from Shen Ning's cleavage and said with some regret.
"Besides, I have something to do tonight. Sorry."
