Chapter 36 Debugging the Cyborg
Chapter 36 Debugging the Cyborg
"How's the data?"
In a temporary base set up in a high-rise building in the Silver City, several figures in white coats stood next to a metal tank about two people tall, holding tablet terminals and debugging something.
"After this adjustment, all attributes have increased by 40% compared to the last time, and the implanted superpower has also stabilized initially. The technology coming from the capital is really awesome."
"40%? That's really outrageous. I remember using less than half the amount of material of the same type."
"Without the implantation of superpowers, it's only 55% of the same level. If we mass-produce it, it can drop a few percentage points further. The only problem is that this technology requires superpower implantation. We just implanted the [Adaptation] superpower into him, and the resources consumed were no less than all the materials needed for a level 4 combatant. This alone almost bankrupted the company's working capital, so let's not even think about mass production."
"So what? We've just picked up a high-potential superpower for free. If the technology weren't still underdeveloped, do you think it would have been assigned to us for research? Those young masters and ladies in the capital would have been the first to use it."
"That's true. That PhD who researched this technology is practically pushing it to its limits, even allowing for the implantation of multiple superpowers. I don't know what's wrong with his brain; how did he come up with that idea?"
"Alright, enough chit-chat. Let's inject this nutrient solution. We'll start a new test once we find the target over there."
The conversation stopped abruptly, and a researcher pulled a tube of golden liquid from behind, connected it to a pipe, and poured it into the huge tank.
As the nutrient solution was injected, a faint heartbeat could be heard from inside the jar.
Keep in mind that this was through a jar made of an unknown material, yet the heartbeat still managed to penetrate, demonstrating the extraordinary nature of its owner.
"This is the search team. Please respond."
A slightly noisy voice came from the walkie-talkie next to us.
"receive."
"We have detected a leader-level beast. Its coordinates have been sent to the system. We request that weapons be deployed."
"Request approved. Please retreat to a safe area. The weapon will arrive in three minutes."
As soon as he finished speaking, a researcher pulled the switch next to him.
The next moment, the huge metal can hissed and disconnected the pipes.
Immediately afterwards, a violent gust of air erupted from the bottom of the tank, carrying the entire tank out of the gap at the top of the building and disappearing from everyone's sight.
"Turn on the camera."
The holographic projection screen lit up, shining in front of everyone.
The metal can was first launched to a certain height, and then began to fall freely with the slight adjustment of the airflow, crashing into a place that resembled a plaza.
There, one could vaguely see countless thick, sticky, metallic-looking structures intertwined, forming a huge nest.
A gigantic mechanical spider, resembling multiple vehicle screens welded together, slowly crawled above the nest, its tail constantly spraying out charged liquid to perfect the nest's structure.
A deafening roar filled the air as the spider abruptly raised its head. A crimson laser beam shot out from a speaker on its head, instantly piercing the sky and colliding with the metal can.
Sparks flew as the plasma-filled air exploded violently, disconnecting the researcher's video feed and causing a commotion.
"The backup camera is also damaged."
"It's okay, the nutrient solution was only used for half an hour. We can collect it in half an hour."
Fortunately, the metal can was made of a special material and was not damaged by the impact.
The metal can, having veered off course, crashed through countless spiderwebs with a sickening crunch, like a dud cannonball, and became embedded in the side of the nest.
As the valve opened, a pair of hands covered in golden scales emerged from the jar and pressed forcefully against the door.
The owner of the hands was also revealed.
Its entire body is covered in fine scales, its legs are bent backward, and it is full of explosive power. Its pale human face is the only trace that it was once "human".
Countless twisted bony horns spread haphazardly from the back of its head, like some kind of exploding swarm of snakes.
It raised its head and looked toward the center of the nest.
A giant mechanical spider, pieced together from countless vehicle wrecks, coldly stares at the uninvited guest with its head made of horns.
There was no communication.
Only the most primitive confrontation between predator and invader.
A crimson laser suddenly lit up and shot out from the spider's trumpet-shaped mouth.
Destructive energy arrived instantly.
boom--!
Before the smoke from the explosion had even cleared, a golden afterimage appeared ghost-like above the mechanical spider's head.
The lizardman raised his fist and slammed it down!
The immense force caused the giant spider to sway, leaving only a shallow dent on its hard metal exoskeleton.
The damage is minimal.
Just as the lizardmen were about to attack again, the mechanical spider's back armor suddenly writhed and cracked!
Sizzle! Sizzle! Sizzle! Sizzle! Sizzle!
Five additional spider spears, crackling with electricity, shot out from the center at a speed too fast for the naked eye to see, slashing across the center!
Blood spurted out.
The lizardman's arm was severed at the shoulder and flew high into the air.
The mechanical spider's back split open again, revealing three dark, horn-like mouths aimed at the falling lizardman.
Red light flashed repeatedly.
puff!puff!
The lizardman was sent flying like a rag doll, his left arm burned to a crisp, and a huge hole blasted through his chest.
Thick, oily blood gushed out, forming a glaring pool on the ground.
The prey is dead.
The mechanical spider swayed its body, shooting out two cables that precisely pierced the lizardman's chest, preparing to drag the spoils back to its lair.
Tighten and drag the cable.
However, all that was dragged to the front was a golden scale skin, tattered and covered in blood and flesh.
Empty?
"Gurgle..."
It roared with fury, as if metal had been forcibly bent, as it suddenly turned its head.
The intruder who should have died had somehow appeared behind it.
After shedding a layer of dead skin, its body appeared a sickly, whitish-yellow color, and the horns on its head had become more clustered, showing a tendency to twist together.
"Hungry……"
Dry, hoarse syllables were squeezed out of its throat.
Its mouth suddenly split open, almost extending to its lower jawbone, and a long, sticky tongue stretched out eerily, entering through its nostrils and exiting through its ear canals. There was no trace of teeth in its mouth.
next moment.
Bang-!
The air was instantly sucked out, producing a muffled bang, and the waxy yellow figure vanished from its spot.
The mechanical spider's compound eyes, composed of countless displays, couldn't even detect its trajectory.
When it reappeared, an enlarged claw had already filled its entire field of vision.
Sizzle—!
Exceeding the speed of sound, the waxy yellow lizardman, with sheer power and sharpness, pierced through the giant mechanical spider from front to back.
Its arm precisely probed into the spider's body, like a venomous snake pulling out the core of the gland that was constantly pumping energy.
The next second, the lizardman's abdomen swelled up with bizarre fleshy tumors, which wriggled like living things and were "squeezed" toward its tailbone by an invisible force.
puff!
Flesh and blood exploded, and a thick, fat tail grew wildly from the ruptured flesh, dripping droplets of viscous liquid with a metallic sheen, like the solution sprayed by the spider it had just devoured.
"Hungry......"
The lizardman roared again, looked around, and finally left the nest in one direction.
