Chapter 130: Hidden Frictions Arising
The display cases exploded, glass shards scattering everywhere.
The fox twisted its body agilely, dodged the blast, and darted behind a row of display cases.
Lei De strode after it, raised his hand again, and bolts of lightning smashed the display cases blocking his way.
“Run, go on, keep running!”
The fox dashed left and right through the exhibition hall. Lei De chased and smashed everything in his path. In an instant, fossil fragments littered the entire museum floor.
Liu Xian’s fox form was small, but its speed and agility were extremely high. Several times he charged toward the museum exits, only to be forced back by Bureau 869 agents using energy guns.
Lei De, thoroughly enjoying the chase, simply slowed his pace, like a cat playing with a mouse.
“Hahaha, kid, this place has already been completely surrounded by Bureau 869.”
“You’re not getting away. Be a good boy and die for me.”
Hearing this, Liu Xian stopped running. He knew he couldn’t escape anymore—better to fight it out.
With that thought, Liu Xian rushed to a Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton, leaped up, and wrapped his foreclaws around the dinosaur’s leg bone.
Contact with Tyrannosaurus bone!
Liu Xian immediately switched forms.
Bang!
Liu Xian’s body began to expand rapidly, his fur thickening. In the blink of an eye, he went from a small fox to a ten-meter-tall Tyrannosaurus rex!
Roar!
The deep roar made the exhibition hall’s glass hum violently.
The entire third floor collapsed outright. Lei De leapt several times, landing steadily in the first-floor hall.
After steadying himself, Lei De looked up at the suddenly appearing Tyrannosaurus, his eyes lighting up.
“Oh? You can get this big too?”
“This is getting more and more interesting.”
Before Lei De could finish his comment, Tyrannosaurus Liu Xian had already opened its massive jaws and lunged at him.
Lei De neither dodged nor retreated, raising his hand as a bolt of lightning slammed into the Tyrannosaurus’s lower jaw.
Bang!
The Tyrannosaurus’s head jerked to the side, several teeth flying loose.
Lei De seized the opening and unleashed two more bolts of lightning, striking the Tyrannosaurus’s neck.
Boom!
Under the bombardment of the massive electric current, the Tyrannosaurus crashed to the ground, the floor cracking apart.
Just as the Tyrannosaurus struggled to get back up, lightning gathered in Lei De’s palm.
Boom!
Several more bolts struck the Tyrannosaurus’s back. Maintaining the Tyrannosaurus form consumed mental energy far too rapidly.
Liu Xian already lacked sufficient mental energy, and after such attacks, his vision went completely dark.
Unable to maintain control any longer, his body shrank uncontrollably, and in the blink of an eye, Liu Xian reverted to human form.
At that moment, Liu Xian lay sprawled on the ground, panting like a broken bellows.
Lei De squatted down and grabbed his hair, yanking his head back.
“Kid, you had quite a bit of fun, huh.”
“But now, it’s all over.”
Just as he was about to strike, a low voice suddenly sounded in Liu Xian’s ear.
Liu Xian froze.
The sound didn’t come from outside—it rang directly inside his head.
A hallucination?
But at this moment, there was no time for Liu Xian to think.
Watching the lightning in Lei De’s hand grow more intense,
Liu Xian’s pupils shrank.
He clenched his teeth and shouted loudly, “Lei De, don’t get cocky. Do you really think you can walk out of Zhu City alive?”
“Just wait to pay with your life for the Transcendents from Bureau 869 who died at your hands in the game a few days ago!”
Lei De was shaken by these words, the lightning in his hand dissipating somewhat.
“What did you say?!”
“You’re a lone player—how would you know that?!”
Seizing the moment of Lei De’s distraction, Liu Xian used the last of his mental energy. His body shrank again, transforming into a gecko!
The gecko clung to the ground and shot toward the stairwell.
Lei De’s palm struck empty, slamming into the floor and blasting out a crater.
“You dare play tricks on me?!”
He turned and gave chase.
The gecko was extremely fast, slipping along the wall corners and diving into a ventilation duct on the left side of the stairwell.
The duct was narrow—no human could enter.
Lei De blasted the wall with a bolt of lightning. The wall cracked, but the duct itself remained intact.
He roared furiously.
“Lin Xun! Where are your people? Seal off the duct exits!”
Outside the door, Lin Xun heard the commotion and frowned.
“Seal all ventilation outlets!”
The agents moved immediately.
But Liu Xian had already crawled more than fifty meters through the duct.
“Left of the stairwell, ventilation duct. Crawl in and head east. The exit is in the underground parking garage.”
Following the guidance of the voice in his head, he headed east.
After several turns, an iron grate appeared ahead.
In gecko form, he slipped through easily.
Further ahead, the duct sloped downward, ending at an exhaust vent of an underground parking garage.
Liu Xian’s mental energy was completely exhausted. His body went limp, and he fell out of the duct, slamming onto the concrete floor and reverting to human form.
He was utterly drained, without even the strength to crawl.
Beyond the exhaust vent was the parking garage, yet no one was guarding this area.
Liu Xian gritted his teeth, braced himself against the wall, stood up, and limped outward.
Suddenly, the voice in his head sounded again!
“Don’t go right. Bureau 869’s people are coming.”
“Go left. Two hundred meters ahead there’s a small path. Go out and you’ll reach the provincial road.”
Hearing this, Liu Xian quickly changed direction, asking in his mind as he moved,
“You… who are you?”
There was no reply. Liu Xian gritted his teeth and ran in the indicated direction.
He ran out of the parking garage and indeed saw a concealed small path.
From the direction of the museum behind him came Lei De’s furious roar.
Liu Xian didn’t look back and disappeared into the night.
……
Outside the museum.
Lin Xun watched Lei De rush out of the museum, his face dark.
“Where is he?”
Lei De asked in a low voice.
“He got away,” Lin Xun said with a frown.
Lei De sneered, “Got away?”
“Your people sealed all the exits. How did you still let him escape?”
“There are too many ventilation ducts. It’s impossible for us to seal them all.”
Lei De stared at Lin Xun. “Really impossible? Or did someone deliberately let him go?”
Lin Xun’s expression changed, a flash of anger passing through his eyes. “Lei De, what do you mean?”
“Are you suspecting me?”
“What I mean is, the head I worked my ass off to get was deliberately let go by certain people in the end.”
Lei De stepped forward, his presence oppressive.
“Lin Xun, you’d better explain clearly why that kid managed to escape from your encirclement.”
Lin Xun didn’t retreat—instead, he stepped forward as well.
“Explain?”
“He slipped away from your hands, and you come looking for me?”
“Why weren’t you faster when you were killing him?”
The two stared at each other, the air thick with the stench of gunpowder.
The surrounding agents tightened their grips on their guns, but no one dared to speak.
Lei De suddenly laughed.
“Fine. This isn’t over.”
He turned and walked toward his motorcycle.
“I’m telling you, Lin Xun, don’t play tricks with me.”
“Otherwise, I don’t mind smashing your Zhu City Bureau 869 to pieces.”
The motorcycle roared as Lei De sped away.
Lin Xun watched Lei De’s retreating figure, his gaze growing ever darker.
He took out his phone and dialed a number.
“Director Qin, the target escaped. Lei De failed.”
There was silence on the other end for a few seconds.
“Stabilize him. If a lone player escapes, let him escape—he’s from the 【Radiance】 faction anyway.”
“The priority is still finding the two players from 【Shadow】.”
Lin Xun responded with a sound and hung up.
He looked up at the museum building, his brows tightly furrowed.
The ventilation ducts truly hadn’t all been sealed, but most of them were. Only a very few, due to insufficient manpower, hadn’t been blocked.
But how did that kid know exactly which duct wasn’t sealed and could lead outside?
Could there be an insider within Bureau 869, or did that kid possess some kind of precognitive Transcendent ability?
