Chapter 159 - 158: Su Yue’s Gentle Collision
Chapter 159 - 158: Su Yue’s Gentle Collision
The pain from her sprained ankle made Su Yue frown. When Lin Li asked about the car accident, she briefly told him what had just happened.
"Sigh... there’s not much to tell, really. Someone just ran a red light, and I was almost hit..."
After hearing Su Yue’s simple explanation, Lin Li understood the whole story.
He said angrily, "The road conditions are already bad on a rainy day, and he still dared to run a red light. If that driver had reacted even a little bit slower, you would’ve been a goner."
"I know! If the driver had hit the brakes even one second later, the car would have slammed right into me...
If that had happened, my injuries wouldn’t just be a sprained ankle from losing my balance and falling." Su Yue recalled the scene, a shaken expression on her face.
She was quite brave. An ordinary girl who had gone through such an accident wouldn’t have been able to calm down so quickly.
The driver who caused the accident by breaking traffic laws and running the red light had already been taken away by Traffic Security Officers from the Security Bureau.
Su Yue’s medical expenses, along with other compensation, should be settled within a week. The Security Bureau is quite efficient when handling these matters.
"I’ll take you home," Lin Li said, standing up.
"Okay." Su Yue, still sitting in the chair, nodded and held out her right hand.
Lin Li reached out and took Su Yue’s fair, delicate hand. Just as he was about to pull her up and help her leave the hospital, he suddenly froze.
"What’s wrong?" Su Yue asked when she saw Lin Li holding her hand and staring blankly at her injured ankle.
"Your ankle is really swollen. It’s better if you don’t move it much. I’ll carry you on my back," Lin Li said after a moment of thought.
"Okay."
"Hop on," Lin Li said, crouching down and looking back at Su Yue.
Bracing herself with both hands on the chair, Su Yue slowly stood up. Standing on one foot felt very awkward for her.
Her body wobbled as if she were about to fall at any moment, so she hopped forward, throwing herself onto Lin Li’s back.
’Uh...?!!’
Lin Li, still crouching, hadn’t expected Su Yue to just leap onto his back.
’Good thing he was a whole different person now. Otherwise, with Su Yue’s sudden lunge, the impact would have probably sent him sprawling to the floor.
So many people were watching! If he’d been knocked flat on his face, it would have been mortifying.’
"Lin Li, we can go now." Once on his back, Su Yue wrapped her slender arms around his neck, leaned close to his ear, and whispered.
"Uh..." Lin Li was speechless.
The well-defined curves of Su Yue’s body pressed against Lin Li’s back, and her warm breath tickled his ear.
The soft feeling on his back, combined with the orchid-like, musky fragrance that wafted to his nose, made Lin Li feel an immense pressure.
At that moment, Lin Li deeply regretted offering to carry Su Yue home.
"Lin Li?" Seeing no response, Su Yue tightened her arms around his neck, shifted her body a little, and called out in confusion.
In his mind, Lin Li sucked in a sharp breath and quickly began reciting the Purifying Heart Spell.
After reciting it once, he quickly said to Su Yue on his back, "Don’t move around."
"Oh," Su Yue replied, then became still, lying quietly on his back.
After silently reciting the Purifying Heart Spell several more times, Lin Li took a deep breath, then reached back to support Su Yue’s thighs and stood up with her on his back.
Just as he was about to carry her out of the hospital, Su Yue’s voice sounded by his ear. "Lin Li, you forgot your umbrella..."
Lin Li then picked up the umbrella from the floor, handed it to Su Yue, and strode quickly out of the hospital with her on his back.
***
SPLASH...
The rain showed no signs of letting up, coming down in sheets.
Lin Li walked out of the hospital with Su Yue on his back. Su Yue, perched on his back, held the umbrella with her right hand to shield them from the rain.
However, the rain was too heavy and the wind was blowing hard. One umbrella was hardly enough for two people.
They had barely stepped out of the hospital before the hems of their clothes were soaked.
Fortunately, the parking spot wasn’t far. Lin Li quickly carried Su Yue to the car, opened the door, and settled her into the passenger seat.
CLICK.
SLAM.
Once inside the car, they both glanced at the relentless downpour outside and breathed a sigh of relief.
"Huh? Lin Li, this car seems different from the one I was in before," Su Yue asked in confusion as she buckled her seatbelt.
"How is it different? It’s just an ordinary van," Lin Li said with a smile, starting the engine.
"Uh..." Su Yue was at a loss for words. The last time, she had been drunk, so her memory was a bit fuzzy.
Lin Li drove out of the hospital parking lot and decided to stop being mysterious. "I just bought this car," he told Su Yue. "The lease on the old van was up, so I bought a new one of the same type."
"I knew it! I just had a feeling this car was a little different from the last one." After hearing Lin Li’s explanation, Su Yue’s expression turned puzzled as she asked another question.
"Lin Li, be honest with me. Did you buy this van to become a delivery driver and haul goods for money?"
The reason Su Yue had this idea was that she had recently read a news story on the topic.
It said that nowadays, some recent college graduates weren’t taking office jobs after graduation, choosing instead to become food delivery guys, ride-share drivers, or buy a van to make money hauling goods.
’What is going on in that head of hers? How could she possibly think I bought a van to haul goods for money?
How much can you even make as a delivery driver? A single day’s earnings for me out in the wilds is worth several months of a driver’s salary.
Besides, I had a huge stroke of luck today and raked in spoils worth 4.7 million yuan in one go.
If I really became a delivery driver, I’d never earn this much in my entire life.’ Lin Li glanced at Su Yue and grumbled to himself.
"Why aren’t you saying anything? Is that it? Don’t be embarrassed. There’s no such thing as a better or worse job. Being a delivery driver is actually pretty popular right now...
I saw a news report not long ago about a recent graduate who bought a van and made over ten thousand yuan a month just by helping people move their luggage," Su Yue said to Lin Li with a smile.
