Chapter 388-2: The Demon Summoned by Soul Sacrifice (2)

Chapter 388-2: The Demon Summoned by Soul Sacrifice (2)

To avoid tripping in the gutter, Lin Xun decided to wait until the two Disciples had decided the outcome and were throwing out their final trump card killing moves, then make his grand entrance and deliver a fatal blow.

However, the battle between Bashir and Joshua was even more brutal than Lin Xun had expected.

The two surviving Disciples both belonged to the Second Disciple’s faction, much like the situation between Lin Xun and Amos.

[Disease.]

[You raise your staff high and shout at the giant bear charging toward you.]

[The enormous bear, as large as a small mountain, possesses terrifying strength. Every step it takes shakes the ground. It is like a behemoth that has walked out of myth.]

[Black vapor rushes from the staff and spreads over the giant bear’s entire body, withering its fur and rotting its skin. Its charging speed visibly slows.]

Bashir took the chance to retreat quickly, sending his last retainer forward to stall for a moment while he laid another layer of Dark Shelter over himself. The black witchcraft he wielded was extremely powerful. It could silently cast curses on enemy Apostles, constantly weakening their strength.

By the time the enemy Apostle realized they had been cursed, they were often already beyond saving and could only close their eyes and await death.

Of the two dead middle-seat Disciples, both had directly or indirectly died to his black witchcraft.

Of course, such powerful witchcraft was not without flaws. Bashir had to conceal himself in the darkness and cast spells silently and unseen to unleash his full power.

Compared to the other Disciples, his frontal combat ability was somewhat lacking.

The Fifth Disciple Joshua belonged to the same faction as him, and the two had already shared details about each other’s Shells and skills before the war began.

They had originally thought that if they worked together in this war, they would definitely be among the winners.

Yet neither Joshua nor Bashir had expected this Disciple war to be so cruel that there could only be one winner.

Their alliance of offense and defense instantly shattered.

Joshua, knowing full well how terrifying Bashir’s black witchcraft was, dragged him out of the shadows and forced him into frontal combat.

Bashir likewise understood Joshua’s Shell traits and skills.

But even with that knowledge, he still could not beat his enemy in a straight fight.

Joshua’s Shell was a rare hexagonal warrior, an all-rounder with almost no weaknesses: the class template Druid.

The mighty giant bear in front of him, brimming with endless strength, was Joshua’s state after using Shapeshift.

Bashir’s last remaining retainer rushed forward to stall for a moment and was slapped into a smear of meat paste by the bear’s paw.

“Bashir, you’re only suited to be a rat skulking in a sewer. In frontal combat, you are absolutely no match for me.”

“Are you still going to struggle on your last breath?”

Bashir ignored the mocking voice from the earpiece. He knew he was already at a dead end and that if he did not use his final trump card, there was only death ahead.

He looked to the hidden forbidden spell in his skill bar, Soul Sacrifice – Demon Summoning.

[Soul Sacrifice – Demon Summoning (mythic+ grade skill): Use your maximum soul strength as an offering, sacrificing it to a powerful demon in the Abyssal Purgatory. If your offering satisfies this evil being, the powerful demon will descend into the world and annihilate the enemy you cannot resist.]

[To use this skill, you must sacrifice at least 2 points of maximum soul strength. The more you sacrifice, the higher the chance of successfully summoning the demon.]

Bashir naturally knew that the price for using this skill was too great to bear. But if he did not use it, he would die here at his enemy’s hands.

“I’ll go for it. Worst case, I’ll figure out how to get Relics after the war and increase my soul cap again.”

[You have used Soul Sacrifice – Demon Summoning.]

[You have chosen to sacrifice 2 points of maximum soul strength.]

[Current soul strength 1/1.]

Bashir’s face suddenly turned deathly pale, and beads of sweat the size of beans seeped from his forehead. He could not help but let out a shrill scream. He felt as if some great force had torn a massive chunk from his soul.

The unbearable pain sent him collapsing to the ground, curled into a ball, completely unable to operate the Shell any longer.

[The alluring scent of a soul slips into the void. A colossal figure appears silently behind you…]

[That hulking figure is entirely crimson, with twisted ram’s horns sprouting from its head and a hideous, bloodthirsty face. Its claws and fangs are razor sharp. A single glance at it is like seeing boiling molten lava and hearing the endless wails of the Abyssal Hell…]

[The Fifth Disciple Joshua’s giant bear form is like a trembling puppy before the demon, able only to whine and flee with its tail tucked between its legs.]

“Bashir, you ruthless bastard.”

“When I get back, I’ll show you what it really means to wish you were dead.”

Joshua understood that a terrifying trump card like this had to come at an enormous price and that Bashir most likely only had the ability to use it once.

As long as he could avoid this skill, escape its range and wait for the demon to disappear, then Bashir would have no chance of turning the tables.

[You use Shapeshift – Dragon Form.]

[In the blink of an eye, you transform from Bear Form into Dragon Form.]

[You beat your massive dragon wings, whipping up a wild gale as you try to flee the battlefield as fast as you can…]

[However, a vast shadow covers your draconic body completely. You stretch your long neck, look up…]

[You see that enormous crimson claw that blots out the sky growing larger and larger in front of your eyes.]

[…]

[You are dead.]

“Noooo!”

Hearing the wail in his earpiece, Bashir tore it off despite the agony and could not help but show the smile of a victor.

Cold sweat had long since soaked his entire body. He lay weakly on the ground, lacking even the strength to check the outcome.

But from that utterly miserable scream, he could already tell… he had won.

The game text continued to scroll on its own…

[With the death of the Fifth Disciple Joshua, the powerful demon from the Abyss lets out a harsh, cackling laugh. It is very satisfied with your sacrifice and looks forward to your next offering…]

[The terrifying crimson figure gradually fades away, and the island battlefield once again falls into deathly silence.]

Bashir panted for a long time and felt he still had not recovered. He forced himself to lift his head and glance at the game text.

Sure enough, he saw the prompt that Joshua was dead.

At this point, Bashir was the only remaining winner in this region. According to his past experience in Disciple wars, if he waited a little while, either a Resting Page would appear or he would be teleported directly back to the Library.

He relaxed and could not help feeling that this Disciple war had been far too brutal.

If not for his trump card killing move, the final outcome might have been incredibly tragic.

However, as Bashir was sighing over having survived a calamity, he did not notice that the game text was still scrolling rapidly.

[…]

[Behind you, a scarlet radiance of unknown origin gradually brightens from dim to blinding.]

[A colossal sense of danger and fear quietly enfolds you. You jerk around, and your vision is completely filled with cruel, bloodthirsty scarlet light.]

[It is a blood-red falling star. It is the merciless scythe of death itself.]

[The blood-red meteor is already within arm’s reach. Before you can react at all, you are swallowed and crushed by the scarlet radiance.]

[Only when the blood-red meteor has destroyed your flesh, destroyed your soul and ground you into meat paste and dust… does the heaven-shaking thunderclap finally arrive.]

[…]

[You are dead.]

All the hairs on Bashir’s body suddenly stood on end, and a nameless, extreme terror shot from his spine straight to the top of his skull.

The intense sense of crisis forced him to prop himself up and grab his phone to take a look…

“Noooo!”

His despairing howl echoed for a long time before everything once more fell into silence.
