Chapter 168-1: The Central Monster, Legendary-Grade Divine Item (1)

“Central monster!”

That colossal creature was so enormous it stood taller than the three-story building that had once occupied this spot.

The giant monster had a jackal-like ferocious head, while its body was that of a primate, covered in coarse, black bristles.

It threw back its head and roared at the sky. The deafening shockwave spread out in rings.

All the Apostles in the vicinity whose strength was a bit lower clutched their ears in agony, blood faintly seeping from between their fingers.

Wang Zong kicked the exhausted team member out of danger and faced the enormous foot coming down on his own.

The soldiers lifted their great shields and sheltered the protective circle beneath them, forming a dome-shaped tortoise shell formation.

The central monster crashed down onto the shields but couldn’t shake the unyielding formation.

“You bastard thing! You dare run away?! You made me waste a precious item!”

Wang Zong gnashed his teeth and dragged his hammers after the giant wolf.

The central monster opened its gaping maw full of fangs, bit down on a shield, and with a shake of its wolfish head, tore an entire soldier out of the tortoise shell, shield and all.

It swallowed the soldier in one gulp and lunged at the formation again. Yet where it had pulled away the soldier, the gap had already been filled by the others lifting their shields.

Wang Zong finally caught up and swung his hammer down at the giant wolf.

But the wolf refused to fight him head-on. Relying on its incredible speed, it circled the tortoise shell with Wang Zong in futile pursuit, occasionally snatching another soldier out of the formation to devour.

“Damn it, come fight me if you’ve got the guts! Why the hell are you running?!”

The remaining team members, including Lu Caiyi, were all safe within the shield formation.

Wang Zong had maxed out his strength stat, yet he still couldn’t catch up to the wolf, forced to watch helplessly as the protective circle shrank bit by bit under the monster’s relentless predation.

He flipped his wrist, stowing both hammers to lighten himself and quicken his steps.

But even without the weight of the hammers, he was still far slower than the giant wolf.
