I Save The World In A Doomsday Text Game

Chapter 160-1: Outsmarting the Stargazer, the Treasure in Memory (1)

Chapter 160-1: Outsmarting the Stargazer, the Treasure in Memory (1)

The Stargazer Who Gazes Upward, despite Lin Xun’s repeated attacks, still had not stepped out of the Altar of the Stars, nor had it made any attempt to counterattack.

It simply continued, without pause, to invite him into the altar to swear the oath…

“Could it be that the Stargazer itself isn’t actually strong, and only appears powerful by relying on the altar’s divine authority? That’s why it wants me to enter the altar, to try and eliminate me, an oathbreaker who fled from its grasp.”

Lin Xun felt this was highly likely, but just to be safe, he needed to test the theory.

Scrolling back to the earlier narrative, the three dialogue options were still available.

Without hesitation, he chose the third option, mockery.

[You, still hiding behind the Knowledge Barrier, shout mockingly at the Stargazer within the altar. You jeer that the radiant stars are nothing but defeated mongrels, imprisoned by Omniscient True Knowledge and drained for power.]

[And yet it dares speak of the divine might of the radiant stars? How utterly shameless.]

[The Stargazer Who Gazes Upward flies into a rage at your words. It seems to want to argue, but doesn’t know where to begin…]

[It glares coldly at you, declaring that you will one day die under the power of the radiant stars.][For some reason, even in its fury, it still does not launch an attack.]

Lin Xun smirked. Just as he expected!

He had insulted the radiant stars this harshly, yet the Stargazer still hid within the altar without daring to strike back.

From this, he could conclude, the Stargazer had no means of attacking directly, or at the very least, could only attack those who entered the altar.

[You continue to taunt it, saying it’s hiding like a turtle in the shell given by the radiant stars, too cowardly to come out. If it had any guts, it should come fight, and you promise to send it straight to meet the radiant stars.]

[The Stargazer, realizing that you’ve seen through the altar’s divine protection and its own weakness, states flatly, even if you’ve unraveled everything, there’s nothing you can do to it.]

[So long as it remains within the altar, you cannot break through the Starlight Veil’s defense.]

[But if you dare to enter the altar, you will once again be overwhelmed by the terror of the stars. It doesn’t need overwhelming power, if it simply lets you drown in that fear, you’ll die on your own.]

[The Stargazer crosses its arms and stares at you coldly.]

Lin Xun frowned.

Just as the Stargazer had said, even though he had seen through everything, neither knowledge-type spells, starlight-based spells, nor special eyeball skills could break into the altar.

Staying here in a standoff was meaningless and a waste of time.

At this point in the sequence, the only remaining option was to distance himself from the altar and allow the illusion to reject him, thereby forcing an exit.

But Lin Xun couldn’t shake the feeling that there was another way to defeat the Stargazer.

He scratched his head, racking his brain for a solution.

After thinking hard for a long while, he still came up with nothing.

[The Stargazer Who Gazes Upward, seeing your silence, tries once more to persuade you to enter the altar. If you return to the radiant stars, all past grievances will be forgotten…]

[Do you wish to accept its invitation to enter the Altar of the Stars and swear the oath of the radiant stars?]

This sort of tactic was child’s play to Lin Xun. He treated the Stargazer’s words as so much hot air.

Due to the cursed game’s mechanics, he could no longer rejoin the oath of the radiant stars.

The Stargazer undoubtedly knew this too. The unspoken rule was that oathbreakers could never return to a previous oath. Its invitation was just a trap to lure him into certain death.

Lin Xun returned to his old ways, he opened his inventory and started searching for clues.

One item after another passed under his gaze, but none of them seemed capable of breaking the current deadlock.

Suddenly, his eyes lit up. He spotted a dusty, forgotten item buried deep in the inventory.

He stroked his chin thoughtfully. Using this item wasn’t guaranteed to resolve the situation, but it wasn’t rare or precious, so it was worth a try.

[You possess the Shell of the Corrupted Earth Giant!]

The Shell of the Earth Giant was the optimal choice for close combat and perfectly suited Lin Xun’s next plan.

Faced with the Stargazer’s relentless invitations, Lin Xun suddenly pressed ‘Yes,’ agreeing to enter the altar.

[The Stargazer Who Gazes Upward continues inviting you into the altar… You suddenly change your attitude and agree to enter, catching it completely off guard.]

[It stares at you in shock as you approach the altar, only to be blocked once again by the Starlight Veil…]

[The Stargazer scoffs at you. Are you really thinking of baiting it into lowering the Starlight Veil so you can ambush and kill it?]

[It waves a hand, and starlight flashes across the sky. The once iron-solid Starlight Veil before you becomes soft as a curtain of water.]

[The Stargazer tells you that while spells and attacks will still be blocked outside the altar, your Shell can now pass through the Starlight Veil and enter.]

[It stares at you with a mocking gaze, clearly not believing you have the courage to step into the Altar of the Stars.]

[Do you wish to proceed?]

Lin Xun ignored the Stargazer’s goading.

He opened his inventory, made all necessary preparations, and decisively clicked ‘Yes.’

[You step forward and pass through the fluid-like Starlight Veil, entering the Altar of the Stars…]

[A vicious gleam flickers in the Stargazer’s enormous eye!]

[With a wave of its hand, several stars in the night sky suddenly expand a millionfold, growing so massive they appear within arm’s reach…]

At the same time, Lin Xun swiftly used an item.

[Your vision is swallowed by the immense celestial bodies. These colossal objects fill the entire night sky, and no matter your will, your gaze is helplessly drawn to the looming stars.]

[You used the Verdant Biological Fluid (item)!]

[Verdant Biological Fluid (Item): A sticky green liquid speckled with glowing particles, this is internal bodily fluid from a starborn being creature. Using it will temporarily transform your current Shell into the form of a starborn being.]

This item had dropped from a starborn monster summoned by the librarian in Shamara’s Astrologer Tower.

[You stare at the massive stars closing in on you. You can’t even manage to close your eyes. Your chest tightens, your breath catches, and your body turns ice-cold…]

[The green fluid pours into your mouth. You let out a painful roar. In an instant, your skin hardens into pitch-black armor. Your limbs stiffen and reshape into jointed appendages covered with coarse bristles.]

[Two massive horns sprout from your forehead. A piercing, proboscis-like mouthpart extends from your jaws. Your entire body, clad in black chitin, is studded with flickering stars.]

[You have temporarily transformed into a starborn being!]

[You look again at the immense stars rushing toward you. But instead of fear, a sense of deep comfort and tranquility fills your heart, as if a shivering person in the cold had suddenly stepped into warm sunlight.]

[You snap back to awareness and find the Stargazer Who Gazes Upward standing before you, its face frozen in stunned disbelief.]

“Didn’t see that coming, did you? I can turn into a starborn too.”

With a cunning move of, ‘If you can’t beat them, become them,’ Lin Xun had solved the stalemate.

[Its giant eye widens in shock. How could a traitorous oathbreaker, a defiler, possibly transform into a kin of the radiant stars?]

[You lower your head and charge forward. The sharp horn on your forehead pierces straight through the figure before you!]

[It collapses slowly to the ground, the light in its eye fading, leaving behind only confusion and disbelief in death.]

[You have defeated the Stargazer Who Gazes Upward. You gained no experience points.]

[You obtained the Stargazer’s Memory (item).]

The last time he received a similar item was during his abyssal journey using the illusion book at the Multivision Association.

The memory item dropped by the Subterranean Skeletal Demon had allowed him to comprehend a new skill based on his Knowledge stat.

Could the Stargazer’s memory contain the skill Starlight Veil?
