I Reincarnated as The Protagonist's Best Friend

Chapter 43 - 5th Day

Chapter 43 - 5th Day

Today was the 5th day since the Ranking Battle started. And like usual, Quash was present on the Battle Hall early in the morning. But he realised one thing. He can’t be latented anymore and he needs to grind with all he has got. His ranks are still among the 6 digits. With just 2 days left, he was starting to feel the pressure.

After yesterday’s match, his rank improved by along, but still far away.

[289,579]

Win Streak: 189

His rank increased by more than a hundred thousand. But if he wanted to bring this number down to triple digits, he needed to work harder. Alan and Elina where already among the Top 2000. And he was 200,000...

The gap was too big. If he ended up with such a big gap, Alan would be smug. So to prevent that, he will at least aim for Top 1000. Top 100 is unlikely for him with his stats. Because everyone in stop hundred are monsters who has broken the class limits.

And if his memories served him correct, the rank 1’s Stats are among 300s. Quash won’t even know how and when he was defeated if he were to ever face her.

So Top 1000 is a very realistic goal for now.

But with his increasing rank, attention was slowly turning to him. He was already fairly famous among few Battle Halls, but some influencer started to catch the air of him. A guy with 189 win streak, even though he was so ridiculously far behind, he was bound to be noticed with a number like that.

Quash can proudly say that he has the highest win streak among all the students. So a little bit spotlight was bound to follow him. But nor everyone cared about their surroundings though.

Like the 29th Battle Hall. There is no one who knows him. Or the previous Battle Halls he was in. He was famous in 39th Battle Hall because of the incident in 51st Battle Hall. And some people from the 39th Battle Hall saw the video.

But it was quickly buried among the countless other videos being uploaded on the Internet. So his current situation was actually opposite of fame. He has actually gained infamy. Because of his win streak, any one can tell that he is strong. And among the students of, it signals that he is just trolling.

So the students of 29th Battle Hall didn’t see him in a good light. He didn’t care either way. With 5 or 10 matches, he will be outta here.

So Quash waited for the first match of the 5th day. He didn’t have his Bazooka out, he was finding it increasingly useless. The opponents were getting stronger and faster. They could dogge easily. So it all came down to his fists.

He really didn’t want to spend money on unnecessary stuff. He won’t even be a Knight after this, so what’s the point in buying a new weapon?

Before long, his turn came and he was pulled into the arena. When he regained his senses, he standing in the arena. And in front of his was a lose robbed figure. A student from the demon race. But he didn’t know specifically which race. Their whole body was covered with the robe, and the home didn’t give off either. As if something was interfering.

Ting!

But regardless of anything, the match didn’t wait and with a ting, the match started. Quash immediately sprinted towards his opponent. Intending to close the distance before they could cast any spell because they seemed like a mage.

But he was also prepared for other wise.

But mid way through, he heard sounds of bell ringing and he briefly saw something. As if the whole world, the vibe, his feeling everything had transformed for a brief moment. But it lasted before he could even notice what it was.

That brief pause broke his running rather but he quickly got it back. When he looked at his opponent, they looked a bit flabbergasted. And he realised what it was.

’Illusion!’

Danger Alarms started ringing. His heart skipped a bit with the realisation. Quash channeled his Aura into his legs and closed the distance in an instant.

Not expecting the sudden speed, the opponent made a weird sound but Quash’s Aura Enhanced fist was already closing in rapidly.

*Crack~!*

His fists connected with their face with a bone breaking sound. The momentum of his fist carried the body back, the effect of the hod coming off, revealing their face.

It was a skeleton. Or Lich perhaps. The Lich was thrown back from Quash’s punch. He skipped the ground few times before disappeared.

[Winner! Quash Ogmore]

"Hooo~"

Quash exhaled loudly. His heart still racing from the sudden adrenaline spike.

He was also pulled out shortly after. When arrived in the bleachers. No one in this section reacted at all. They minded their own business. These were the quiet ones and they will disappear before morning to rest, or maybe they will pull an all nighter.

Not that he cared. He was more concerned about the brief vulnerability he experienced. It wasn’t the first time he had faced someone from the demon race, nor someone who had tried to cast illusion on him.

None worked because of his absurdly high Abstract Stats. But this one managed to breach his mental defence, even if it was for a second.

And that was concerning. What if there are stronger illusionist? No, it is cerain that there will be stronger illusionist.

To break out of illusion, one needs to either brute force their way through or find the paradox within the illusion. In otjer words, the weakness of the spell. But in this high speed battle environment, he won’t get such a luxury.

If he couldn’t manage to get out of the illusion before, the Lich will whatever it was would have lured him close and cut his head off from a blind spot.

Although he could remember what kind of illusion it was, but it was strong enough to effect his sense of surrounding and emotions. It must have been very powerful one.

’I need to find a way to deal with this... but what can I even do?’

"Sigh~. Whatever. What will happen, happen."

Quash couldn’t find any way for him to defend himself against mental attacks, so he decided to stop worrying for the moment. He knew no skills to do that. His grandfather may have knew and probably left something in the inheritance...

"Stupid geezers. Fucked up. All of them."

Quash felt irritated every time he thought of his grandparents and involuntarily cursed all the older generations because history is witness, no geezer is sane.
