Chapter 130: Determined To Win Her

Brandon’s blood ran cold. The sight of Levi walking along the hallway outside of Lyse’s apartment when she was not answering the door ignited a fury which had been marinating all night in his belly. He stormed towards him, his fists clenching and ready to turn violent.

"Where is she?" Brandon demanded, his voice low and dangerous.

Levi tensed up, his face contorted with anger. "Where is Lyse? That is what I should be asking you! Who are you to take away my wife." he retorted.

Brandon stepped aggressively into Levi’s personal space. "She is not here in her apartment where I left her," he stated, his voice tight. "So I will ask you one more time: where is she?"

When Levi did not say a word, Brandon shoved him roughly, his eyes blazing. "I won’t let you have her," he snarled. "I won’t let her go back to you. She is mine now, like she was before you stole her."

Levi’s anger reached its boiling point. He grabbed Brandon by the collar, his grip tightening. "You may have forgotten that she is my wife," he growled, his voice low and menacing. "And you need to stay the hell away from her or else."

Brandon struggled against Levi’s grip, his face turning red. "Or else what? She doesn’t even remember you!" he yelled. "She remembers me! She loves me and wants me!"

Levi released him abruptly, a bitter laugh escaping his lips. "She remembers you from before, Brandon," he said, his voice laced with contempt. "She remembers you before she found out that you are a disloyal fool who was sleeping with her own sister. That amnesia isn’t permanent. Sooner or later, she will remember everything. She will remember how you betrayed and humiliated her on what was supposed to be the happiest day of her life, how you broke her heart. And when she does, she will hate you."

He turned and started to walk away, leaving Brandon seething in the hallway. Frustration at his words because he knew that every word Levi spoke was true.

He had been worried about how long Lyse would have the amnesia, if she remembered what he had done she would leave him without a second thought. But he could not let that happen, he could not let her remember what he had done to her.

"You are a despicable man and a disgusting father, what kind of man sleeps with his son’s fiancée?" Brandon bellowed loudly, his voice echoing along the length of the hallway.

Levi stopped in his steps and turned around to look at Brandon’s heaving chest and reddened face. "First of all, you dumped her. You did not have the guts to stand by what you wanted, you can’t take that back and you know nothing about me."

He turned to continue walking away but Brandon’s mocking voice stopped him. "I know that you got my mother pregnant, and then you tried to keep it quiet by paying her all these years."

Levi squeezed his eyes shut, standing there for a long moment. When he spoke, his voice was calm and regretful. "There is so much that you don’t understand. And the truth is, your mother is responsible for all the chaos. I never wished for this to happen to you."

"You are a coward too." Brandon sneered, "what kind of man blames a woman when both of them are responsible, at least she was there. You never were." He continued, his voice bitter and tinged with pain.

"In time, all will be revealed and even though my actions were not the best, I did it all in good faith. Just give it a little time Brandon." Levi spoke, his voice even. He continued to walk away and this time, Brandon did not try to stop him.

He did not want to get into a scuffle with Brandon who was clearly heated and wanted to fight, what he needed to do was to find Lyse as soon as possible. He needed to protect her from Brandon’s manipulations.

As Levi made his way down the hallway, he bumped into Joel, Lyse’s dedicated bodyguard.

"Mr. Van Doren," Joel greeted him, his expression concerned. "Mr Chris asked me to find you, you left your phone behind and we were unable to reach you."

"What is it, Joel?" Levi asked, his heart sinking as he feared some bad news.

"It’s Mrs. Lyse... she left with her mother and Ms Brooke," Joel explained. "I was not able to speak to them but I followed them and they took her home with them."

Levi’s apprehension deepened. He knew all about Lottie and Brooke. He knew their history with Lyse. They had never shown her genuine affection or care. Their sudden interest in her well-being felt suspicious, deeply unsettling.

"Home?" Levi repeated, his voice laced with worry. "To the Chadwick mansion?"

Joel nodded. "Yes, sir."

Levi’s mind raced. He that knew he had to get to Lyse and get her out of there. He could not trust Lottie and Brooke with her. He had a bad feeling about this. Every moment she spent there was a danger to her and he had to find a way.

Unbeknownst to Levi, Brandon had sneakily followed him and he lingered nearby, his anger still simmering. He had overheard the entire conversation between Levi and Joel. His eyes narrowed, a dangerous glint in them. So, Lyse had gone to the Chadwick mansion.

This changed things, he raged internally as he thought of how he would not be dealing with all this if Lyse had simply followed him home or let him spend the night.

He had to act quickly and get her far away from Brooke, he knew that she had to be planning something bad. He wouldn’t let Levi interfere and he would not let Brooke interfere either. He wouldn’t let anyone take Lyse away from him, not this time. The game had just become more complicated, and Brandon was determined to win her and he was willing to do anything to make it happen.
