Chapter 109: Induced Coma
Agnes slammed the newspaper onto the table, her face flushed with anger. "What is this?" she demanded, her voice sharp.
Sutton, who had been idly flipping through a fashion magazine, looked up with feigned surprise. "What is what?" she asked, her voice dripping with affected innocence.
"Don’t play dumb with me, Sutton," Agnes retorted, her eyes narrowing.
Sutton eyed her sister in law with undisguised hostility then she turned to her husband. "Albert dear, I have no idea what your pit bull of a sister wants with me, but haven’t I warned that i don’t ever want her in my home?"
Albert Marlowe opened his mouth to speak, but Agnes cut him off. "Enough of your lies, you two-timing wretch," she spat at Sutton then she turned to Albert. "I always told you that Brandon was not your son, but you were too far up in her ass to see the truth."
"What do you mean?" Sutton asked, straightening up. "How dare you say something so vile about my son? Albert won’t you say something? She is questioning your son’s paternity."
Agnes hissed like an angry car. "Sutton, there is no point in trying to hide it. The whole world knows the disgusting truth about your son’s father, and you have to leave."
When Sutton picked up the newspaper and saw the front page, her arrogance faltered. Agnes who had been watching her expression, smirked in victory. She had waited a long time for the chance to humble Sutton and at last she had been granted her wish.
However, Sutton regained her composure immediately and she looked beechingly at Albert. "You can’t send me away, I am a part of this family and I have done too much to build you for me to be discarded like garbage."
Agnes’s lips curled into a sneer. "You are nothing more than a parasite, leeching off of my brother’s status and family name. But your time is up." She turned to the guards standing nearby. "Remove her."
The guards, trained to obey without question, stepped forward and grabbed Sutton’s arms. She wrenched her arms free and glared hotly at them before turning to Albert.
"Bertie, are you really going to allow the woman you love and married to be humiliated this way?" She asked, her voice soft and pitiful.
Seeing that her brother was going to succumb to Sutton’s charms, Agnes stepped before him. And Sutton scowled. "Get out of my way, I want to speak to my husband." She demanded.
"And let him be charmed by you once again? Never!" Turning to the guards, she frowned at them. "Do I need to repeat my orders to be heard?"
The guards reached out and grabbed Sutton more firmly this time. She struggled, but they were too strong for her. As they dragged her out of the room, the paparazzi, who had been lurking outside, rushed in to capture the dramatic scene. Sutton’s humiliation was complete, her carefully constructed image shattered in an instant.
"Don’t you think that was a bit much?" Albert asked as he sat down on a couch and held his head in his hands.
Agnes stared at his stance, disgusted that she had such a weakling as a brother. "Is it not bad enough that she lied about being pregnant to trap you into a marriage with her? You raised another man’s son forchristsake!"
Albert was quiet for a while then he raised his head and looked at Agnes with sad eyes. "I know that, but I still love her."
Sutton had not been the most easy woman to be with, but she was a stunningly beautiful woman. One that he would never have dreamed could love or marry him. Sure, he came from a family of wealth, but he had always been a bookish type and never seemed to attract women.
Sutton’s interest in him had dazzled him, made him feel like he was on top of the world. It was refreshing to know that a lot of men envied him for being with someone like her. It did not even matter that after that one time at the beginning of their relationship, she never allowed him touch her again. He was content to just be the man by her side.
But now, his nosy sister had come and ruined everything by sending Sutton away. If there was one thing he knew, it was that Sutton would never forgive him or even come back to him. It was a pack of better looking, wealthier men out there and Agnes had driven Sutton into their arms.

The news hit Chris like a ton of bricks. He was in the middle of a meeting, trying to salvage what was left of Levi and Lyse’s public image, when his phone rang. It was Ethan, his voice filled with urgency.
"Chris, it’s Lyse. I just got word that she has been in an accident."
A cold dread washed over Chris. "What happened? Is she okay? Does Levi know?"
"She was in a car accident while trying to flee the paparazzi. She has been taken to the hospital, that is all I know. And no, Levi is not aware."
Chris’s heart sank. He could feel his world crumbling around him. He looked sightlessly at the people, who were sitting around him, his face pale and drawn.
"I am sorry but I am going to have to attend to something else, you have to go on without me." With that, he fled the office and went straight to his car and headed over to Levi’s house.
After wading through the sea of paparazzi at the gate, he went in and met Levi and soon as their eyes met, a silent understanding passing between them.
"Where is she?" Levi demanded, his voice hoarse with fear.
They rushed to the hospital, their hearts heavy with worry. The hospital corridor seemed to stretch on endlessly, each step a painful reminder of the uncertainty that lay ahead.
When they finally reached Lyse’s room, they found it filled with concerned doctors and nurses.
The doctor, a stern-faced man, approached them.
"Mr Van Doren, she is stable for now and in an Induced coma," he said, his voice somber. "Her condition is critical, but we are monitoring her closely."
Levi and Chris exchanged a worried glance. Chris had no idea what the future held for Lyse and Levi. All he could do was hope and pray that she would pull through.
