Chapter 108: Simply Incestuous
Chapter 108: Simply Incestuous
The noise startled Levi and he turned around to find Lyse standing at the open door, surrounded by broken plates and shattered glass. Her face was pale, and her eyes were wide with shock.
He silently cussed himself for not ensuring that the door was locked before speaking. It was obvious that she had overheard him.
"Lyse, listen to me, I can explain everything." Levi said, his voice filled with concern.
Lyse did not answer him. She just stared at him, her expression a mix of confusion and fear.
"Levi" Lyse said, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Tell me I heard wrong." She said, her voice trembling.
"You should just calm down and let me explain, it is not what it looks like." Levi tried to soothe her.
She looked away, her expression thoughtful as she tried to explain away what she had heard. "That can’t be right, Brandon is Dr Marlowe’s son, he can’t be your son."
She turned back to him, searching in his eyes for some sign that she was right, that she had somehow heard wrong. However, the guilt she saw in his eyes frightened her. His silence spoke volumes about the truth.
Lyse stood there, her face a mask of disbelief and disgust. Levi’s lack of words had hit her like a ton of bricks. Levi, the man she had grown to admire and respect and was even falling in love with, was Brandon’s father?
And what kind of man was he to have chosen to sleep with the woman that his son had once loved? What sort of perversion had invaded his mind to do that? It was simply incestuous.
"What were you thinking, Levi?" she asked, her voice barely a whisper. "Of all of the women in the world, it had to be the ex-fiancée of your own son? How could you be so careless, so selfish, so gross?"
Levi’s face was etched with regret. He knew he had made a terrible mistake. He had been blinded first by alcohol then the feeling of possessiveness and then, by love, by the desire to have a family. But now, he could see the consequences of his actions, the pain he had caused.
"I know it was wrong, Lyse," he admitted, his voice heavy with remorse. "I was selfish. I did not think about the implications, about how it would affect Brandon and you. I just... I wanted to be happy with you."
Lyse scoffed and ran her hands through her hair as she began to pace the length of the room. "Happy? At the expense of your son’s happiness? Even if you did not care about my feelings, did you not think about what it would do to your own son?"
Levi sighed. "I know. I messed up. I will do whatever it takes to make things right. I will talk to Brandon, explain everything. I will try to make amends."
Lyse’s anger was slowly turning into disgust. She felt repelled by Levi’s actions, it made very little sense that he would do something like that and all the positive feelings she had started to feel towards him turned to dust.
"You think that talking to him is going to fix all these?" She screamed hysterically. "You don’t seem to even understand the gravity of what you have done. You are disgusting!"
Lyse stormed out of the room and went to her own room. She put on a set of active wear and picked up her purse before bolting out of the room. She could not stand to be in the same space with Levi or else she would throw up. She needed to get as far away as possible.
As she ran down the stairs, Levi was outside his room and when he saw her heading towards the door, his eyes widened in alarm.
"You can’t leave Lyse." He said and reached out to stop her from leaving but she screamed loudly as she ducked out to his reach.
"Don’t you ever touch me!" Her skin crawled in disgust at the thought of them being intimate.
"If the news has broken out, then it is likely that the paparazzi are out there." He tried to reason with her but Lyse did not care.
She ran out of the house and jumped into her car. As she drove out, she was greeted by a crowd of paparazzi whose camera lights started going off immediately they saw the gates open.
Some of them got into their cars and drove after her while the others remained at the house, eager to catch a glimpse of Levi.
As she drove, a sense of unease crept over Lyse. She glanced in the rearview mirror and noticed a car seemed to be tailing her. She dismissed it at first, thinking it was just some random driver going the same way as she. But as she continued to drive, she realized that the car was getting closer, and more cars were joining the pursuit.
Panic set in as she recognized the vehicles. They were paparazzi, relentless and invasive. She had hoped that fleeing the house would free her from their pervasive curiosity. She accelerated, trying to lose them, but they were persistent. They swerved in and out of traffic, their cameras flashing as they snapped pictures.
Lyse’s heart pounded in her chest. She was frantic with the desperation to get away from the vultures. She took a sharp turn, but the paparazzi were hot on her heels. In her haste, she lost control of the car. It swerved off the road and almost into a nearby ditch.
She successfully righted the car, getting back on the road but she did not notice that she had gotten opposite incoming traffic. She only noticed the car driving full speed at her and by that time, it was too late even though she tried to get away. The impact was jarring, the loud screeching of her tires and the sound of glass breaking as the cars collided could be heard for miles.
