Chapter 67: Reinforcements Arrive
Chapter 67: Reinforcements Arrive
Even though Henwil still had no battle energy, his physical condition was exceptionally formidable.
Henwil's current strength was slightly greater than Knight Mark's without battle energy enhancement.
His endurance was even more exaggerated - Henwil could fight at full intensity for an hour without showing any fatigue.
Henwil had now confirmed that his inability to cultivate battle energy might be due to some special condition in his body.
It seemed he could grow stronger without limits, or at least hadn't seen any signs of reaching his peak yet.
Based on his current rate of growth, even without using Knight's Body Tempering Potions to assist cultivation, by the time he reached eighteen years old, Henwil's physical condition would reach an unimaginable height.
Currently, Henwil could wield his war lance like cutting grass, slaughtering the elite bandits around him.
With Henwil's tremendous strength behind it, the spear blade could easily pierce through the bandits' defenses.
Whether it was leather armor, metal plate armor, or simple shields.
Against Henwil's attacks, they were all as fragile as paper. In the dim twilight, everyone could only see Henwil charging recklessly through the crowd, with no one able to withstand a single encounter.
His ferocious performance made everyone think Henwil was using battle energy.
After Henwil's round of brutal slaughter, the bandits once again remembered the fear of being dominated by knights on the battlefield.
After pursuing and killing the fleeing enemies, the remaining bandit chieftain led a dozen or so routed soldiers to escape down the hill once more.
Henwil returned to the battle formation with his lance, offering no explanation for the admiring gazes of the surrounding soldiers.
Only now did Knight Mark feel completely reassured - he was convinced Henwil had reached Knight Rank.
This meant that even if the situation deteriorated further, the two of them could still break through the encirclement.
Actually, heavy weapons like war hammers would be most suitable for Henwil currently.
Combined with Henwil's strength and endurance, "one hammer per enemy" was no joke.
However, Henwil didn't like using war hammers and hadn't undergone systematic training with them.
Additionally, wielding heavy war hammers to wreak havoc didn't fit Henwil's current persona.
He needed to play the role of a talented youth, not a fierce young warrior!
After this round of attacks, the bandits couldn't organize any decent offensive for a long time.
No one wanted to charge up and die, but the longer they delayed, the more disadvantageous it became for them.
Under normal circumstances, after exhausting their battle energy, knights needed five to six hours to recover.
Nearly three hours had passed since Knight Mark's explosive display.
This meant Knight Mark's battle energy had recovered about halfway by now.
Using this calculation method, the other 'knight' must have recovered somewhat too.
If they charged up now, they would definitely suffer another round of heavy losses.
No one wanted to take this risk, but the longer they delayed, the worse it became for the bandits.
Actually, the bandits all understood that their operation had already failed by this point.
But no one was the first to suggest retreating and running away.
On one hand, no one wanted to be seen as a coward - if they suggested retreat first, even if everyone agreed, they would definitely be called cowardly afterwards for being the first to run.
In the bandit profession, it's all about appearing more ruthless than others - if you showed fear, you basically couldn't survive in this line of work.
On the other hand, the bandits didn't dare to retreat either.
From start to finish, after more than ten hours of fighting, the bandits had already lost half their manpower.
With several hundred casualties, their forces had been severely weakened.
During retreat, they not only had to prevent themselves from being used as scapegoats to block Peace Point's army.
They also had to guard against fellow bandits who might develop murderous intentions along the way to annex their territory and manpower.
These combined reasons made it difficult for the bandits to make a decision now.
They didn't dare to fight, but they didn't dare to run either.
Finally, the same bandit chieftain who had previously proposed the alliance gathered all the bandit leaders together again.
"If we leave just like this, I'm definitely not willing to accept it. I'll charge one more time later.
I, Scar Tiger, will lead personally. If any of you have balls, come with me. If you're too scared, just watch from below.
If we still don't succeed, then we'll all retreat together, and no one better try any tricks on the road.
When we retreat with our numbers, Peace Point's soldiers won't dare pursue us..."
An hour later, Scar Tiger led all the bandit chieftains and their trusted followers to assault the hill once more.
Henwil had already realized the bandits were at the end of their rope.
He and Knight Mark both went out to battle, defending one flank and delivering fierce slaughter against the bandits.
Every time Henwil's long spear thrust out, it accurately pierced a bandit's throat.
In just one minute, Henwil was standing on a pile of corpses.
Several arrows were stuck in his armor, all results of sneak attacks by bandits using hand crossbows.
This battle lasted only about ten minutes, but was exceptionally brutal.
Two guards had died, and the remaining ones all suffered various injuries.
After leaving behind over a hundred corpses, the bandits began to collapse.
This wasn't just because of Henwil's ferocity - more importantly, a conspicuous firework rose in the distance.
This was the signal that reinforcements had arrived, asking for Henwil's location.
When a guard launched the signal response, and fireworks formed a silver-white wolf claw pattern in the sky.
All the bandits knew it was time to run.
Scar Tiger, whose left arm had been crippled by Henwil but who managed to retreat, called for the bandits to assemble rather than scattering to escape.
Over ten minutes later, more than three hundred bandits abandoned those who were injured and couldn't move on their own, fleeing directly toward the southwest.
A while later, a fire dragon appeared on the distant ground - the arriving reinforcements.
When these several hundred reinforcements, by torchlight and moonlight, saw the corpses covering the hillside, they were all shocked speechless.
The reinforcements numbered over seven hundred, all arriving on horseback.
More infantry and militia were still behind, being led by Administrator Colo and arriving at daybreak.
But these mounted troops weren't all cavalry - most were actually mounted infantry.
Their horses weren't warhorses either, many being borrowed from merchant caravans.
Of the three hundred true cavalry, one hundred came from the elite private forces sent by the Baron.
The remainder consisted of Peace Point's defense forces and scout riders patrolling the trade routes.
The Baron's private forces were led by Knight Umo, while the defense forces were naturally led personally by Defense Officer Monroe.
When the two men reached the hilltop and saw Henwil with several arrows stuck in him, their hearts leaped violently.
They hurried toward Henwil who was leaning against a pile of corpses.
Just as they approached, Henwil suddenly stood up, startling both men.
Knight Umo: "Arluis, are you alright?"
Monroe: "Apologies, young master! We arrived too late!"
Henwil: "You're here now, that's what matters! How many men do we have?"
After hearing the report, Henwil lifted his war lance: "The bandits haven't escaped far yet. Organize all the cavalry - we can't let them get away!"
"This absolutely cannot be done!"
