Chapter 178: Power Level Comparison

"Get the animals moving toward the square." He turned to Thadric and his voice was steady even though his hands wanted to shake. "Blindfold the mounts. Rope the Yaksha together. Grab Beska. We go in one shot."

Thadric dropped his bags in the dirt and vaulted over the pen fence with his spear still in one hand. The rancher had the big male mount blindfolded and walking within forty seconds and the female followed because she never left without her partner.

The Yaksha were easier. Thadric looped a rope through the lead rings on their neck bands and the three milking females shuffled into a line behind him. The juvenile trotted next to them on its own because it was too young to understand what was happening.

Griks appeared from the last pen with Beska draped around her shoulders and half her torso. The python’s dark green body was thick enough to cover the kobold from neck to waist. Griks’s eyes were wide and her horns were trembling again but she was holding the snake steady and her feet were moving toward the square without hesitation.

The wolves were already there. Fury stood at the edge of the square facing north with his ears flat and his body low. Rury had put herself between the approaching fire and the group of animals and her teeth were bared at the flames.

[My meat is in the bag.] Rury’s voice in Eren’s head was tense but satisfied. [All three pieces. I checked twice.]

Eren almost cracked a smile at that but the fire was less than a hundred meters from the first intact building now. The Koen vines on the nearest wall were glowing brighter than normal, reacting to the temperature.

He looked at the Totem one more time. The small tree stood there in the center of everything with its yellowing leaves and the fire closing in from all sides.

I’ll come back for you. I don’t know when but I’ll come back.

He pulled the mana from the Dungeon Heart Fragment into his body. A thousand points of stored energy on top of his drained pool and the tingle flooded through his veins immediately.

He thought about the farm. The big empty building with the concrete floor and the wide double doors that Oldir had propped open this morning to let air through. The gravel path outside where Nimbo was probably playing with the Earth kids from the neighboring property.

"Door Master."

The portal ripped open and through the blue shimmer he could see Turkey. Afternoon sunlight on dry grass and the concrete wall of the farm building. Emily appeared in the doorway because she’d heard the skill activate from inside.

"Go." Eren stepped to the side and Thadric pulled the rope.

The mounts went through first because they were the hardest. The big male balked at the portal edge for half a second but the blindfold held and Thadric’s steady pull on the lead kept it moving. The female followed her partner through without stopping.

Yaksha next. Three adults and one juvenile walked through the portal in a calm line because Yaksha were the most trusting creatures in Evon and they’d follow a piece of bread through a wall of fire without thinking twice.

Griks ran through with Beska wrapped tight around her. The snake’s tail dragged on the ground behind the kobold and left a smooth track in the dirt.

Rury bounded through the portal in two leaps and nearly knocked Emily off her feet on the other side. Fury went last among the animals. He looked back at the burning village for one second then turned and walked through with his tail low.

Thadric stopped at the portal’s edge and looked back at Eren.

"Come on." The rancher gestured with his spear. "What are you waiting for?"

Eren was looking at the fire. The flames had reached the first intact house on the north side of the square and the roof caught immediately. Dry wood and months of accumulated dust went up in a flash of orange that swallowed the building in seconds.

Part of him wanted to stay. Fight the dragon. Distract it. Lead it somewhere else. A stupid reckless part of his brain was already making plans and none of them involved walking away.

But the dragon roared again from inside the inferno and the sound was so massive that the ground cracked in two places near his feet. The Clone’s memories pushed forward without him asking. A centipede the length of a bus that could burn the ground black just by crawling over it. Turtles that killed five shadow-teleporting foxes without breaking their stride. Creatures at levels so far above his that his Observe skill gave him nothing but a blank wall.

The dragon was in that category. Probably above it.

I’m Level 47. My best offensive move is making things fall in love with me for two seconds. I have nothing for defense except running fast. The Clone survived alone in the deep forest for thirty-eight days and the first real threat that caught him killed him before he could fight back.

If I stay here and die Emily raises our baby alone. Two hundred elves lose their only way between worlds. Everything I built over six months becomes nothing.

He stepped through the portal.

The blue light dissolved behind him and the last thing he saw was the Totem standing alone in the burning village square with its yellowing leaves catching the orange light from every direction.

Eren didn’t know what could be end result for that totem but he still had the same feeling of danger and had some doubts about this place.

Then he was inside his new farm in Turkey. Dry grass and sea salt on the air and Emily had her arms around him before his eyes adjusted to the sunlight.

"You took too long." She pressed her face into his chest and her voice was muffled against his shirt. Her belly pressed against his hip and it was bigger than last week when he saw her the last time.

"I had to get Rury’s snacks."

"I hope you are joking.." But then she saw the massive amounts of random things Eren dropped to the ground next to the animals and frowned.

"I was worried asshole..!"

Eren froze in mid motion and stopped moving. And while Emily holded her mouth and blushed with her own curse, Eren jumped to her and hugged the poor elf.

"So, we are starting to use dirty language now huh? My pure naive elf wife got corrupted by the Earth, I see now.."

"Shut up!" Emily hit his forehead then escaped to help other elves to settle. Two cubs-giant ass wolves were running around the house sniffing everything. Then Rury figured the outside and they created even bigger mess in a minute.

The whole area was filled with laughter, talking and random mess.

But things were good.

Just before Eren was about to walk to talk Rosa or Kalina, he remembered how well he would fight againts the dragon.

Clone’s memories were a reality check but still things would be that one sided right..?

Maybe he was colping or didn’t have a fight in a while but Eren wanted to check his whole skill list.

He checked his stats first and it was still the same for the last month. Being Level 49 was almost easy comraring Emily’s struggles of the past few years.
