Chapter 129: Dragon Hunting and Demigods?
Chapter 129: Dragon Hunting and Demigods?
Eren walked through the village with Thadric on his right and Griks trotting behind them clutching the drone controller against her chest. The little kobold kept glancing north toward the mountain every few seconds like she expected the dragon to dive bomb them any minute.
"Three days," Eren said. "You’re telling me this thing has been building a nest for three days and nobody mentioned it until now."
Thadric scratched the back of his neck. "Everyone saw it flying. We thought it was doing what it always does. Nobody cares about the details anymore like when it first showed up but Griks is a Kobold and feels danger above the previous behaviors of the damn lizard!"
"Griks looks." The kobold pointed at herself with a scaly finger. "Griks watches every morning. Big flying death carries trees. Same spot.
A nesting dragon. Not migrating, not passing through." Her word choices of outside daily life was weird but she was getting better at talking in Elvish. Eren was kind of impressed. Rosa wasn’t that fast like Griks.
But there was bigger problems than language learning.
Emily isn’t here. The wolves are patrolling the southern border. And I’m Level 47 with a love magic class against something that could flatten this village by sitting on it.
"Can we fight it?" Thadric asked. He gripped his spear tighter, which Eren appreciated even though both of them knew the answer.
"No." Eren didn’t sugarcoat it. "Not even close. Emily told me her mother was Level 150 and she still avoided dragons. We’d need an army or a really stupid plan and right now we don’t have either."
Thadric nodded slowly and his shoulders dropped. "So what do we do?"
"Nothing yet. We watch. Griks keeps monitoring with the drone and the second that thing changes behavior we talk about evacuation routes." Eren looked at the kobold girl. "Can you tell if it’s alone up there?"
Griks tilted her head and her tiny horns caught the late afternoon light. "Drone goes high but mountain is far. Griks sees one shape. Maybe one. Maybe eggs already."
Great. Baby dragons can run around in the area..
"Can we sneak kill that dragon if we were too strong Griks? If she was weak with egg laying or something, I don’t know dragon biology.." Eren didn’t want to say these words and jinx his fate but he was curious about Griks’s knowledge.
"Griks know little. Griks mama said dragon and phoenix race born like almost demi-god.."
Eren didn’t know what a demi-god meant in this world and Griks didn’t either so that put an end to the conversation. He guessed dragons and other mystical creatures were over Level 200 or something close enough to earn that title.
Dragon hunting is off the plans then whether the damn lizard is weak or not. There is no chance I’m surviving that colossal thing even if I was over Level 70 or even 100 probably..
What the hell even is a demi-god?
They walked the rest of the village perimeter in fifteen minutes. It was more of a habit check than a real patrol since Eren had cleared every living thing within four kilometers yesterday. The barricades on the south and west walls looked solid and the volunteers Thadric had organized were keeping watch in shifts.
Nobody was panicking about the dragon because elves were biologically incapable of panicking for more than ten minutes.
The real concern Eren needed to settle was simpler. He looked at every elf they passed and tried to gauge their physical age. The portal to Earth was still active for emergency evacuations and Emily had already taken the eldest and most visibly aged elves through last week.
But the remaining hundred and ninety something villagers all looked like they were in their thirties or early forties at most. Even the ones who were technically over a hundred years old had smooth skin and bright eyes and bodies that would turn heads on any street in Istanbul.
He looked around and run to some places and finally knew both close and distant circles of the village was almost full cleared. For the close areas he did it. For the distant ones, there was another plan working for the few days already.
And the movements of the Orcs, Dragon and all the other dangerous bigger groups coming together made it visible. His other secret plan was working nicely behind the scenes.
That meant he could stop worrying about evening attacks and actually get his family to this side in one or two days.
"Lets go and chill then.."
Eren told Griks to stay near Thadric’s ranch and report anything new in the morning.
The kobold half saluted half waved him like she didn’t know the customs of the village yet. Her tiny fist against her forehead was kind of cute. And she ran off toward the animal pens still hugging her drone.
Thadric was looking after her and signed. They were going to the same place and kobold run away like he wasn’t going to the ranch.
Eren grinned with Thadric’s conflicted face.
He headed toward Lyra’s bakery first because the plan was to grab her before going to Selena’s for dinner. But the bakery was empty.
Two elves he vaguely recognized were hauling sacks of flour into the storage room behind the ovens and a third was stacking loaves of dark bread into wooden crates for the winter supply.
"Where’s Lyra?"
The elf woman stacking bread looked up and gave him a knowing smile that made him uncomfortable. "She finished everything three hours ago. Said she needed to go home and get ready for tonight."
Get ready? Ready for what exactly?
He thanked her and walked toward Selena’s restaurant. The smell of spiced Yaksha meat hit him from two streets away and his stomach growled so loud that an old elf sitting on his porch laughed at him.
The restaurant was mostly empty this late in the afternoon. A couple of elves nursed cups of Pao tea near the window and Selena wasn’t behind the counter. But someone else was.
Rabbu-i sat at the corner table near the kitchen door wearing what Eren could only describe as a creative interpretation of clothing. Two thin strips of woven leaf-fabric crossed her chest and a piece of something that might have been a skirt hung around her wide hips barely covering anything. She looked like a woman who had just gotten out of bed and decided that getting dressed was optional.
This time Eren didn’t look away.
The old him would have stolen a glance and turned his head before Emily caught him. But Emily was on Earth and the half-elf blood running through his veins didn’t do shame anymore. He walked to her table and sat down across from her and let his eyes travel slowly down her body without hiding it. Her neck, her bare collarbones, the full shape of her breasts barely held by those two thin strips, her exposed stomach and the curve of her wide hips where the leaf-skirt gave up pretending to cover anything.
He remembered the first time she joined his hunting party wearing almost nothing and how he had tried to suppress his charisma stat to avoid causing problems.
Hell! They even kissed one time.
Now he could see how her cheeks going red and her eyes glazing over from just eight percent of his passive output. That was many weeks ago when his charisma was half of what it was now.
But Rabbu-i now looked totally different. She gave some strong suggesting signals.
