Chapter 122: Rosa’s Financial Ambitions
Chapter 122: Rosa’s Financial Ambitions
[POV: ROSA]
The screaming started at exactly eight in the morning.
Rosa rubbed her temples. She stared at the thirty five-year-olds running in circles around the brightly colored classroom. Two of them were fighting over a blue plastic block. Another kid sat in the corner actively trying to eat a stick of glue.
She had returned to her job at the elite kindergarten after her long vacation. The monotony of Earth was already crushing her soul.
Knowing there is a magical forest with real monsters and elves out there makes watching a human kid eat glue feel incredibly depressing.
She missed the smell of the Evon forest. She missed the constant adrenaline and she definitely missed Eren.
By the time her shift ended Rosa was completely exhausted. She drove straight to Eren’s two-story house. The place was basically an alien refugee camp now. Eren had brought Emily and the five elven elders through the portal yesterday morning before returning to Evon.
Rosa unlocked the front door. The heavy blast of the house’s central heating immediately hit her face.
Mel and Nimbo were sitting cross-legged on the living room rug. They were surrounded by empty soda cans and arguing loudly while staring at the massive flat-screen TV.
"Welcome back!" Mel waved the black plastic remote in the air like a dagger. "Rosa this magic tablet is broken! The men with the metal wands disappeared and now there is a screaming woman selling a strange stick!"
Rosa kicked her boots off and sighed heavily. "It’s called a commercial Mel. And that stick is a mop. You just have to wait three minutes and the action movie will come back."
Nimbo poked the TV screen carefully with his index finger. "Earth magic is completely ridiculous. Why would anyone watch a screaming woman sell a cleaning stick?"
Rosa ignored the twins and walked up the stairs to peek into the master bedroom. Emily was curled up under a thick blanket sleeping deeply.
Earth had absolutely zero ambient mana in the air. For a high-level pregnant elven hunter like Emily the sudden lack of mana made her pregnancy fatigue ten times worse. She had basically been sleeping since she stepped through the portal in the bathroom.
Rosa quietly closed the bedroom door and walked back down into the kitchen.
An old women named Galadrim and two of the other elders were standing near the refrigerator. They were whispering to each other while examining the magnetic grocery list on the metal door. They looked at Rosa with a mix of respect and deep confusion.
"Are we eating the long yellow strings again?" Nimbo shouted from the living room while rubbing his stomach.
"Yes and no. There will be many other things beside the pasta." Rosa grabbed a large pot from the cabinet.
The electricity bill was paid for the last months. But the actual danger of grocery bills for a house holding almost a dozen elves with massive appetites were piling up dangerously fast. Her teacher’s salary wasn’t going to cover the receipts for much longer.
She turned around and stared at the three wooden crates sitting on the floor near the back door.
Eren brought them over during his last trip. They were packed with exotic Evon fruits from Rabbu-i’s orchard that tasted like a cross between a mango and honey. There were also several small glass bottles of pure Zen Wine resting in the corner of the crate.
He told me I control the trade on this side.
Rosa’s eyes narrowed as she looked at the glowing fruit. A sharp strategic spark ignited in her chest. She didn’t want to just pay the grocery bills. She wanted to quit her soul-crushing job and build an absolute empire.
She wasn’t going to sell the crates to a normal wholesaler. That was amateur work.
Rosa packed three fruits and one tiny sample bottle of Zen Wine into a sleek black bag. She left the elves with strict instructions not to open the front door and drove straight to the wealthiest neighborhood in Istanbul.
She walked into an elite organic market and completely bypassed the cashiers. She went straight into the manager’s office and placed the Evon fruits on his expensive glass desk.
"Give these to your three best clients for free." Rosa told the skeptical manager while adjusting her bag strap.
"What is it?" The manager frowned and poked the glowing green skin of the fruit. "I can’t just give my clients untested products."
"Don’t ask questions." Rosa looked him dead in the eye with a cold confidence she definitely learned from Evon. "Just tell them it’s a highly exclusive exotic import. If they like it you have my number."
She did the exact same thing with the Zen Wine. She drove to Sultanahmet and walked into a licensed pub where tourists usually sat down to grab a cold beer after a long day of sightseeing. The manager was an old friend who owed her a favor.
"Just let your richest tourist customer taste it." Rosa tapped the glass bottle on his wooden bar. "I’ll wait for your call."
..
Rosa was back at Eren’s house boiling a massive pot of pasta, some meat jerky and many different supermarket products that elves loved for different reasons. Just before she and all the hungry elves were about to eat, her phone started vibrating loudly against the kitchen room.
She wiped her hands on a towel and picked it up. It was the organic market manager of the big grocery store. And it was the closer distanced one to her work, so she was happy to have a reaction from there.
"Rosa!" The man yelled into the speaker so loudly that one old elf jumped back from the refrigerator.
"What the hell was in that fruit? I gave it to my boss and he just stormed my store! He said his mind cleared up completely and his chronic back pain vanished instantly! He had the energy of a teenager all day and he wants to buy the entire stock. He is offering ten times whatever you’re asking!"
Before Rosa could even process the information her phone beeped with another incoming call. She switched lines.
It was her bartender friend from Sultanahmet.
"Rosa you need to tell me who made this wine!" The woman panted heavily like she was having a panic attack. "I gave a sip to a rich tourist from London and his arthritis is completely gone! He feels twenty years younger and he’s demanding to meet the supplier right now. He has the money to pay whatever you want so I need cases of this stuff Rosa!"
Rosa slowly pulled the phone away from her ear. The shouts of the desperate buyers echoed in the large kitchen.
She looked at the remaining crates of Evon goods on the floor. The mana-infused products of a magical universe were having the exact effect of a flawless super-drug on the magic-deprived humans of Earth.
A slow and dark smile spread across her face.
She was going to be the richest woman on the planet.
