Chapter 282 - 280: His Fingers Are Very Long
Chapter 282 - 280: His Fingers Are Very Long
Yates Donovan couldn’t believe it. In just one night, his house had been cleaned out.
But he had to admit, for a scheming old bastard like Silas Grant to go to such lengths, it really showed his devotion to Mia Grant.
"Don’t be ridiculous," Mia Grant said over the phone. "I don’t really understand this, so I wanted to ask you about it."
She was completely clueless when it came to finance. It wasn’t her area of expertise.
She had thought about starting her own business in the future, but for now, it was just an idea.
Yates Donovan explained, "This is also known as a ’rich kid protection plan.’ Down the line, no matter what happens on Silas Grant’s end, this portion in the trust is a directed gift to you. It’s irrevocable, unchangeable, and immune to seizure."
"To put it simply, let’s say that in the future, the Hughes Corp goes bankrupt and Silas Grant’s personal assets are liquidated. This part in the trust won’t be affected by any external forces. In other words, no one can touch the principal in here to repay his debts."
Mia Grant was stunned.
"This is enough to keep you comfortable for the rest of your life."
Yates Donovan lit a cigarette. "He’s certainly a responsible big brother."
Mia Grant pursed her lips, not expecting such a massive gift from Silas Grant.
"Just take it. It’s not like he’s losing out," Yates Donovan said, telling her not to dwell on it and just accept it.
"You nearly died for him. He owes you this."
"But that’s not why I did it."
Yates Donovan asked her, "Which is more important, love or money?"
"Money," Mia Grant answered with almost no hesitation.
Hearty laughter came from the other end of the line. "Exactly."
"People change, but money doesn’t. What’s yours is yours."
Mia Grant clicked her tongue. ’No wonder people always said the two of them were the same kind of person.’
’Their values were a perfect match.’
’They were definitely two of a kind.’
"And don’t you feel bad for him. He officially took his post today. The next time you see him, he’ll be the big boss at the Hughes Corp, the one calling the shots. If he can give you that much, he can earn it back."
"Makes sense," Mia Grant nodded.
After hanging up, she did a quick search online and found the relevant news.
There were photos of Silas Grant at the Hughes Corp from that morning.
There was also a short interview.
Before the cameras, the man’s gaze was gentle, and he listened patiently to the reporters’ questions.
As she watched, she noticed a red mark on the back of his hand. It looked like a cat scratch.
The man had changed his clothes and was impeccably dressed from head to toe.
The only thing out of place was the mark on the back of his hand.
She vaguely recalled that it was her own handiwork from the previous night.
He had a large frame, the most muscular build of anyone she knew. Therefore, every part of him, from head to toe, was...
As she’d just recalled, his palms were large, and his fingers long.
So when he probed inside, it had been a little painful.
’She must have left it when she struggled.’
She touched her nose guiltily.
’At least I scratched his hand, not his face.’
He was always so particular about his appearance. If she had actually scratched his face, he most likely wouldn’t be smiling at the cameras like that.
In the afternoon, Mia Grant bundled herself up into a snowball and waddled outside, ready to forage for food.
The restaurant wasn’t as crowded today as it had been the past couple of days.
’Everyone has probably gone home for the holidays,’ she thought.
Thinking of the money in the trust, Mia Grant made a grand gesture and ordered four dishes and a soup.
’Heh, I’m finally the kind of person who can have four dishes for a single meal,’ she mused.
’Yates Donovan was right, after all. This trust really is designed to keep rich kids from blowing their inheritance.’
Taking a bite of a chicken leg, Mia Grant pulled up a map to look for nearby shopping malls.
The New Year was just around the corner, and she hadn’t prepared a thing.
Plus, she was spending the holiday with the Sinclair family this year.
’That house will probably need some decorating, too.’
Mia Grant hesitated for a moment before deciding to move in that very night.
That way, she would have plenty of time to decorate.
「Meanwhile.」
Simon Adler followed Silas Grant out of the conference room.
They had dinner with the board of directors that evening, which would probably involve several rounds of drinks.
The drinking culture at these business dinners was a real headache.
Silas Grant rarely drank. At most, he would have a little to show respect.
So most of the burden fell on Simon Adler.
Those old geezers showed no mercy when it came to forcing people to drink.
In the elevator, Simon Adler listened patiently to Silas Grant’s instructions. Suddenly, his gaze paused. "This tie you’re wearing today... it isn’t yours, is it?"
He had actually noticed it as soon as Silas Grant arrived at the office that morning.
How could a meticulous perfectionist like Silas Grant choose a tie so unsuited to his taste for such an important occasion?
Judging by the craftsmanship, it didn’t look like the brand he usually wore.
It just wasn’t his style.
Normally, even for private gatherings, Silas Grant made sure his outfit was perfectly coordinated with his cufflinks, tie clip, tie, and watch.
So it couldn’t possibly be an oversight.
At his words, Silas Grant glanced down at his tie. Whatever he was thinking, the stern look in his eyes instantly softened.
Seeing this, Simon Adler had a bad feeling.
Sure enough, the next second he heard Silas say, "Mia Grant gave it to me."
"She bought it for me as a gift with her own pocket money. I’ve had it for a while, but I could never bring myself to wear it, so the style is a little dated."
"But it’s perfect for today’s occasion."
"..."
Simon Adler forced himself to look away, a complex mix of emotions churning inside him.
’I shouldn’t have opened my big mouth.’
As if not noticing Simon’s reaction, Silas Grant straightened his tie and continued, "She has pretty good taste. The pattern is nice. When she gave it to me, she was too scared to even show it, worrying I wouldn’t like it."
Simon Adler gave him a look that was hard to put into words. Silas met his gaze. "What? Does it look bad?"
"...It looks great," Simon Adler said with a smile. "Makes you look years younger."
Silas Grant smiled. "Is that so?"
From the side, Eric coughed twice, a subtle hint for Simon Adler to shut his mouth.
’Mr. Grant is extra sensitive about his age right now! Don’t go there!’
Fortunately, Silas Grant was in a good mood and didn’t dwell on such a minor detail.
Stepping out of the elevator, he took his phone and called Mia Grant back.
After they finished discussing the trust, he heard some noise in her background. "Are you out somewhere?"
"Oh, yeah," Mia Grant answered. She was pushing a shopping cart and had ducked into a corner to take the call, but it was still noisy. "I’m at the supermarket."
"It snowed yesterday, so the roads are slippery and the temperature is low. If you need anything, I can have it sent over. You really shouldn’t be out."
"It’s fine, really. They’d already cleared the roads by the time I came out. And I’m bundled up, so I’m not cold."
"After I finish shopping, I’m going to move. To the house the Sinclair family gave me. We agreed to spend the New Year together."
"So I’m going to go over now and get it set up."
"They’re all going to be there?"
"I think so. I invited Carla Sinclair and Mr. Yuri Sinclair, and Carla’s younger brother should be coming too. As for Miles Sinclair... I’m not sure about him."
"He won’t be back in the country for now."
"Oh, I see," Mia Grant replied. "Well, that’s fine. I can cook one less dish then. I’m planning to cook myself this time. I’ve already planned the menu, but I have no idea if they’ll like it. The tastes of people from Portia are so different from the mainland."
Listening to her, Silas Grant felt a sudden impulse. He desperately wanted to go back and spend the holiday with her.
They had always spent the holidays together.
But now, she had a new family.
’He didn’t know whether he should be happy for her or not.’
