Chapter 264 : Before Leaving
Chapter 264 : Before Leaving
It wasn't until the seventeenth day of the first lunar month that the road blockades between villages and cities were officially lifted.
That morning, Wu Guodong sent a message hoping he could come pick her up. Lin Nan looked up somewhat reluctantly at Chen Yao sitting in front of the computer playing games.
She had to leave.
Lina, or perhaps other people from the other world, had already come and were hiding nearby. She didn't know if there was danger, but at least she didn't want to implicate Chen Yao.
She had come here before New Year and stayed for nearly a month. Under normal circumstances, she probably would have gone back on the second or third day to gather with relatives on her grandfather's side for a meal. But this time they encountered the epidemic. Now although the roads were reopened, dining together was still not allowed, and going out was not encouraged.
Sitting on the bed, she discovered Chen Yao didn't seem anxious at all. Somewhat displeased, she reminded him: "When my uncle comes, I'll have to leave."
"Mm, you told me last night."
Seeing he was still focused on playing games, Lin Nan felt a surge of anger in her chest, almost throwing the water bottle from the bedside at him.
Sure enough, women were less important than games!
Before, standing from a man's perspective, she only felt this saying especially fit the otaku college student mindset. But now that she stood from a female perspective, it made her furious.
She huffily puffed out her cheeks, casually picked up the laptop from the bedside table and hugged it to her chest, deciding to give Chen Yao the cold shoulder as well.
However, after playing on the computer for less than ten minutes, Lin Nan couldn't help but ask: "What are you planning to do after I leave?"
"Play games every day. If the restaurant needs me I'll go deliver some takeout. Anyway, I won't be too idle."
Sure enough, a big pig trotter...
If it were a normal girl, she'd probably be furious to death.
Fortunately Lin Nan had once been a man and could barely put herself in his shoes, knowing Chen Yao was just more focused when playing games.
But she was still so angry!
Lin Nan grabbed a pillow and threw it at him.
"What's wrong?" Only now did Chen Yao react. Taking advantage of the game's death screen, he turned to look at Lin Nan.
He discovered Lin Nan's face was already puffed up with anger.
This guy...
Lin Nan's angry appearance was adorably cute, not making people feel annoyed or afraid at all. When angry, she looked more like a wronged little kitten being bullied.
"Okay, okay, I'll stop playing."
Having played this game for years, Chen Yao had long since lost any competitive spirit for it. He casually typed in public chat "My wife is about to give birth, sorry" then exited the game.
Only then did he stand up, looking at the sulking Lin Nan with smiling eyes.
"What's wrong? If you're going back, just go back. The roads aren't blocked now. When the restaurant opens, I'll come down to find you." He sat at the head of the bed, turning sideways to look at Lin Nan sitting at the innermost part.
Lin Nan stared at the computer screen, neither looking at him nor speaking, deliberately wanting Chen Yao to experience the feeling of being given the cold shoulder.
"You're about to leave." Chen Yao eagerly climbed onto the bed, coming to Lin Nan's side, his heart full of anticipation. "Want me to give you a parting gift?"
Ghs! Ghs!
Chen Yao stared at Lin Nan's gradually reddening cheeks, sensing the timing might be right.
They were both adults now, had known each other for years, yet in these few days together they hadn't done anything except occasionally hold hands.
This wasn't a middle school romance!
Chen Yao's face gradually moved closer to Lin Nan.
"Cola seems a bit off lately." Lin Nan tried to change the subject. She turned her head to look at Chen Yao beside her, only to discover in horror that his face was getting closer and closer.
With the computer on her lap, it was too late to run now.
The next second, Lin Nan threw a punch without hesitation.
"Holy crap!"
Chen Yao, punched in the nose, bent over clutching it. "You're too ruthless!"
"You scared me..." Lin Nan guiltily moved a bit further inward until her shoulder hit the wall. She lowered her head, stammering an explanation: "I... can't accept this for now..."
Although she had once proactively kissed Chen Yao for magic, that was in a drunken state, kissing cheeks and forehead.
Back then it was more playful and mischievous fun, with the benefit of cheating magic egging her on behind the scenes. But kissing between couples wasn't that kind of kiss.
She felt a bit guilty about being unable to satisfy Chen Yao's needs, but still firmly refused: "Let's talk about it in a while?"
"What were you saying about Cola earlier?" Chen Yao didn't mind much either, rubbing his nose.
Getting to business, Lin Nan became even more worried.
A few days ago she had discovered some magical aura in the room. She had thought it was Lina, but after these past few days, Lina still hadn't appeared.
Most likely it was another visitor from the other world. Then it was possible they had, like Lina initially, indiscriminately taken her for Lilith's reincarnation.
Cola had seen Lina before. Although the meeting scene wasn't friendly, at least to it she was an acquaintance. It shouldn't have been scared stupid.
She looked up at Cola, who was once again trying to claw at the bedding, let out a cry of alarm, and kicked Chen Yao off the bed with one foot: "Control Cola! Your family's sofa has been scratched up!"
"It's our family's Cola, okay!"
Chen Yao hurriedly stepped forward to pick up Cola, directly shutting it temporarily in a backpack.
"This cat really has gotten stupid lately." Chen Yao frowned. "Before it never caused trouble, and it could even talk to us."
This was just Chen Yao's illusion. Watching Cola meow at him at length really did give the feeling of talking.
Hearing this, Cola's body in the backpack stiffened, silently rolling its eyes.
Stop talking! I'm just a normal house cat!
"Right, yesterday it even peed on the bed... I heard cats peeing on beds means they're in heat." Lin Nan pondered. "Before might have just been a simple rebellious phase, now it's the real heat period?"
"Then when the epidemic passes, take it to the hospital to check?" Chen Yao suggested. "There's a pet hospital downstairs from my place, just not open right now."
As they were talking, Lin Nan's phone rang. It was Wu Guodong calling.
Looks like Uncle had arrived.
She got up from the bed and picked up the backpack containing Cola.
Clearly when she wanted to stay before New Year she was full of thoughts about leaving, but now that she really had to leave, she was especially reluctant.
"I have to go." She lowered her head, saying dejectedly.
"We'll see each other in a few days. It's not like it's life and death." Chen Yao picked up the suitcase from the corner.
His mother had bought Lin Nan a pile of clothes. Now that she was leaving, she could only temporarily borrow his suitcase to take them.
Chen Yao walked forward, standing in front of Lin Nan, reaching out to help straighten her messy jacket.
Seeing Lin Nan was still in low spirits, he reached out again to rub her head: "Come on, I'll accompany you downstairs. Let's go."
"Mm..."
"How about getting intimate before you leave?" Chen Yao teased.
Lin Nan, who had just been dejected, instantly blushed red again, lowering her head without answering.
Chen Yao was stunned, but only reached out to grab Lin Nan's hand, instructing: "If anything bothers you when you go back, tell me. Video chat every night when you have time. If you have nightmares at night, call me."
"If you're not happy living there, call me and I'll ride my electric scooter down to pick you up."
Lin Nan looked up in confusion: "Didn't your family's electric scooter have its tire punctured? Where would you find someone to fix it now?"
