Chapter 248 : Lively Morning
Chapter 248 : Lively Morning
When the morning sunlight streamed through the window and fell on the young man's face, he suddenly awoke.
How did he fall asleep last night?
He was still sitting at the head of the bed, his back against the wall. He looked down at himself and discovered he had been covered with a thin blanket.
Stretching lazily and shaking his head a few times, accompanied by some crisp sounds, he finally felt his body relax somewhat.
Rubbing the sore muscles on his neck, Chen Yao turned his head to look at Lin Nan beside him.
"When did you wake up?"
"An hour ago." Lin Nan was lying on her side next to him, looking at him with bright, spirited eyes.
She seemed in much better spirits.
Chen Yao handed her the thermometer from the bedside table and asked, "Feeling any better?"
"I guess I have a bit of strength back." Lin Nan also got up from the bed and sat cross-legged, placing the thermometer under her arm.
"What do you want for breakfast?" Chen Yao picked up his phone to check the time and found it was only seven in the morning.
Compared to previous days when his parents would call him to eat at eight or nine, Chen Yao didn't know why his sleep had been so light today.
Lin Nan was obviously in good spirits. She sat there, her upper body swaying left and right rhythmically. After thinking for a moment, she asked, "Can we have oil sticks?"
"Let me see if any delivery places are open at this hour." Chen Yao said as he walked into the bathroom and splashed water on his face, then dried it with a towel.
Only then did his tired spirit revive.
Although he'd gotten up early, he seemed to have fallen asleep around ten o'clock last night. It was just that his sleeping position hadn't been great, leaving him sore all over.
Returning to the bedside, he used the thermos to pour Lin Nan the last cup of warm water, only then remembering that he'd meant to boil another pot of water for her last night.
But he hadn't expected to fall asleep himself.
Lin Nan got out of bed. When standing, she was obviously much steadier than yesterday's swaying appearance. In just one night, after taking the medicine, she finally no longer looked half-dead.
It seemed the medicine prescribed by the hospital was quite effective.
When the thermometer's time was up, Lin Nan checked it herself and then handed it to Chen Yao. "38 degrees. Almost back to normal."
She felt her body was still somewhat hot, but compared to yesterday's high fever, this temperature was bearable. It was just that her head was still a bit fuzzy and her body had no strength.
"As long as you're feeling better." After checking the thermometer, Chen Yao felt most of the pressure lift from his body. "Delivery places aren't open yet. Should I go downstairs and ask my mom to make you breakfast?"
"How about I make it?" Lin Nan eagerly suggested. "I saw you have bacon and toast in the fridge yesterday. I could make sandwiches."
"Forget it. Just rest properly." Chen Yao pushed Lin Nan back onto the bed, but she restlessly tried to get up again. So Chen Yao used more force and pressed her back down. "Rest well and stop running around."
"But I need to use the bathroom..." Lin Nan looked at him blankly.
Chen Yao awkwardly let go and turned to leave the bedroom. "I'm going downstairs."
This was the first time he regretted not learning to cook properly back in the day.
At this time, if he could make a hearty meal, he could obviously raise her affection for him a bit more.
Besides, Lin Nan was a typical foodie. Look at his parents, they'd completely won her over in just a few days.
Lin Nan's physical condition was much better today. It was just that the pain in her lower abdomen seemed worse than yesterday.
The temperature regulation magic could only ensure she felt normal when sensing the outside temperature, but it had no effect on illnesses like fever that came from within.
The purification magic could only purify waste and gas inside her body, letting Lin Nan avoid using the bathroom and act like a little fairy, but it didn't do anything for bacteria.
Her throat still hurt terribly. Her voice still carried a hoarse, dry quality, and she kept dry heaving and wanting to vomit. Her body was also breaking out in cold sweats. Although her condition had improved, she was still uncomfortably frowning.
After changing her pad, Lin Nan returned to the bed and hugged her phone, trying to distract herself.
However, after only a few minutes, there came a commotion from the front door.
Lin Nan looked up at the bedroom door in confusion. Within seconds, Chen Yao's mom rushed into the room and nervously ran to her side.
"How are you? Where does it hurt? Have you seen a doctor? What do you want to eat today? Auntie will make it all for you!"
She was completely stunned, staring blankly at Auntie's panicked expression and smiled bitterly. "Auntie, it's nothing. Just a common cold."
Hearing Lin Nan's answer, Auntie finally relaxed a bit and glared at Chen Yao standing in the bedroom doorway. "I was only gone one day and you let Nan Nan get into this condition!"
"It's not his fault..."
Lin Nan didn't know how she'd gotten sick either. It might have been from not covering herself properly with the blanket while sleeping the night before last, combined with her lowered immunity from her period arriving.
But in the end, this couldn't be blamed on Chen Yao. If anything, the blame should be placed on Lilith's head.
"Auntie, go take care of your own business. I can take care of myself." Lin Nan remembered that Uncle and Auntie had both signed up to be volunteers. "Being a volunteer is more important."
"Really okay?"
"Mm, I'm fine!"
Hearing Lin Nan's hoarse voice, Auntie felt heartbroken. She touched her head and said gently, "How about this. Every day I'll make you three meals. Eat something good to supplement your nutrition."
Eat something good?
Lin Nan shook her head vigorously in refusal. "That's not necessary. It's too much trouble."
"It's fine. Being a volunteer doesn't mean I have no time for myself at all."
Moreover, the volunteer work was just a cover anyway.
Seeing her insistence, Lin Nan could only nod helplessly. "Alright then. Please go ahead and get busy."
Lin Nan's only thought was not to trouble Auntie, but she didn't see that after Auntie got up, she gave Chen Yao a meaningful look.
If you miss such a good opportunity again, don't mention you're my son when you're out!
Chen Yao silently nodded. He'd only been up for an hour and was already exhausted physically and mentally.
After Auntie left, Chen Yao carried two bowls of guo bian hu into the room and shrugged at Lin Nan. "My mom sometimes overreacts a bit." (TN: Seafood rice flake soup.)
"Speaking of overreacting, you don't have much right to talk about Auntie either, do you?"
Lin Nan rolled her eyes at him and sat on the edge of the bed, blowing on the guo bian hu placed on the bedside table.
This was a local specialty breakfast, essentially rice paste sheets with some dried shrimp and small fish. Outside, it cost two or three yuan per bowl, but the guo bian hu Auntie made herself was full of various seafood, bursting with flavor.
"Try not to play games today. Just stay in bed and call me if you need anything."
"Got it, got it." Lin Nan picked up her breakfast and moved to sit beside Chen Yao. She didn't have a habit of eating in bed.
She took a bite, then restlessly turned to look at Chen Yao and suddenly asked, "What if yesterday I'd really been diagnosed with that infectious disease..."
"Then the whole family would quarantine with you." Chen Yao continued matter-of-factly. "Anyway, we can barely go out now. It's all the same."
"Then why were you so nervous..."
Lin Nan muttered as she lowered her head, feeling inexplicably flustered.
"Because it's you, I guess?" Chen Yao instinctively looked at her, but saw Lin Nan's hair falling forward, obscuring her expression. He quickly added, "If you got infected at my house, your mom would definitely kill me."
