The upgrades consumed a massive amount of essence, but it didn't matter. My strength was still growing, and what I spent would soon be replenished.

With death rampant across the battlefield, my power was at its peak. Essence poured in at an alarming rate. I could maximize any spell I wanted.

But that wasn't what I needed.

I watched the live footage.

Then an idea struck me.

Right…

Why not?

My desire guided my skill, shaping reality.

An image formed.

Another me.

One filled with malice.

One that will bring pain and madness

A fragment of my will was brought into existence.

To make them suffer.

Make them feel the pain of loss—

To make them taste the delicious flavor of grief that swallows their entire being.

Just like what happened to my friends.

The siege intensified, and even the tower felt its tremor, but more than that something incredible happened. The masters of each tower had personally involved themselves, shifting the rhythm of the battle to their side.

The war resumed with greater intensity, with new participants in its wake. However, the Empire's forces answered such pressure with a parallel force. Every territory was gradually improving—though not all shared the same fate.

Chaos was everywhere, but the most affected was the eastern territory. Lioness tried its best, though for some reason, even with their improved numbers, they still couldn't force the enemies away. Perhaps it's because of Emilia's prolonged stay in the region. She had all the information when it came to the topography and defensive maneuvers of the duchy. This made all the coordinated attacks hard to counter. It's already a miracle they are enduring up until now. However, this new batch of intruders is more hassle to handle.

Eros, who had barely begun to rest, was dragged back into the battlefield. As soon as the first wave of absurd creatures piled up cold and lifeless, an unexpected magic circle emerged, summoning new soldiers. These creatures clawed their way into the world—different this time.

These ones seemed to know how to think, how to decide for themselves. They move with thought, with choices, which were far more dangerous than the previous horde before.

"This is not good…."

His voice cracked, and he could barely speak. But not because of his wounds, but from the weight pressing against his heart. The thought that this entire catastrophe escalated this far due to the person he had trusted the most, filled him with anguish.

"Emilia."

Her name created ripples that made his heart and mind shake. In the past, her existence was like a song that brought harmony to his heart, but now, her very name felt like a curse on his lips, like a shadow following his every step.

He tried to suppress the ache, wanting to focus on the battle, but try as he might he couldn't. Every time he witnessed one of his comrades fall and lie injured on the battlefield, it filled him with grief, guilt gnawing into his consciousness. He had built walls his whole life, keeping people at a distance, refusing to hand them his heart. Yet the cruel irony remained—the one person he let through was now the one tearing him apart.

He clenched his fist due to the turbulence of emotions, and the sheer amount of stress caused blood to drip due to the pressure of his grip. The wound made him more awake. The pain sharpened his focus making him ready for the battle.

Currently, for some miracle, none of the eastern soldiers had died yet, but for the sake of everyone, this siege had to stop before that miracle ran out.

While the seven territories struggled to adapt to the current dilemma, the capital, with its powerful defense, stood firm, completely blocking all damage. This frustrated the enemy side, who felt helpless.

This powerful shield reflected the three thousand long years of the Empire's stability.

"How come none of our mages manage to crack the dome!"

A high commanding voice came forward, urging them to hurry.

The creatures they relied on to create pressure on the enemy were turning into a useless pile of flesh, destroyed down to dust.

Now their plan to bomb the dome failed, and even if they tried to use the remaining bodies, it wouldn't yield the results they wanted.

The five generals tasked with phase one of the war clenched their teeth to suppress their panic. Still, their princess was on the front line, trying to create an opponent to destroy the only thing blocking them from their target.

"What to do…" Salas, one of the five generals, thought hard until his eyes darted toward a certain figure, one hidden beneath a cloak.

"I want you to head there and fight," he commanded, but the man under the cloak shook his head and replied, "If I were to step in, he would as well."

Salas arched his brow, not liking his answer, so he asked again, "And who is this person you are wary of?"

A few seconds of silence passed until he received the answer.

His voice was steady, but it brought dread, as if he was cautious of something.

"It's the Emperor."

Those words hung in the air with great tension, leaving the generals staring at him in disbelief.

"Never underestimate an enemy you haven't seen. You are bound to get hurt if you ignore my warning."

His voice linger in the air causing a pressure that made the atmosphere tense.
