Chapter 401 - 366: Sleep Exercises
"According to reports, in recent days, Jianghan City has experienced heavy rainfall, and surrounding counties and cities are also having heavy rains. All places should prioritize flood prevention and disaster relief..."
In the past few days, Jianghan City has experienced continuous rainfall.
The amount of rain is extremely high, and in many places, even cars can’t drive.
However, Jianghan City is located in a plain area, and apart from one major flood disaster, there hasn’t been another one in over twenty years.
There are no particularly large mountains here, and it’s very far from earthquake zones.
It can be said that although the city is not well-developed, its safety factor is very high.
The only major complaint is probably the terrifying consumer prices.
In the Dietary Therapy Department of Lu Jiu TCM Hospital, after expansion, the department has moved to a new place. Considering that there will be more people in the future, an entire floor has been allocated to the department. This way, even if several thousand people come to eat at the same time, the area is still sufficient.
The Wellness and Rehabilitation Department has also been expanded.
After all, with such continuous rainfall, many people cannot practice outdoors, and if the indoor space is too small, it isn’t conducive to stretching.
Recently, Lu Jiu has taught several doctors other health-preserving exercises as well.
These health exercises are not standing exercises, but sleeping exercises.
The most favored health-preserving method in Traditional Chinese Medicine is actually sleep.
Sleeping well is more effective than any medicine.
Therefore, usually teaching patients some sleeping exercises to improve their sleep quality can also accelerate their recovery process.
There are two types of sleeping exercises.
The first type is "Wenwu Sleep."
It can also be divided into Wen Sleep, Wu Sleep, and Wenwu Sleep.
These three movements are quite similar, mainly mimicking a baby’s sleeping posture.
You just need to place the tiger’s mouth of your right hand near your earlobe, the left hand clenched like a baby’s fist on the hip, with both legs stretched straight together.
This pose is Wu Sleep. If you curl your left leg and hold it with your left hand, it’s Wenwu Sleep; curling both legs is Wen Sleep.
Generally speaking, young people should opt for Wu Sleep, which can prevent nocturnal emissions.
People in their forties and fifties should learn Wenwu Sleep, and by their sixties and seventies, they should opt for Wen Sleep.
Of course, such a sleeping posture will initially be uncomfortable and very hard to fall asleep in.
This is a normal situation!
Even if you force yourself to sleep in this position, your posture will change once you fall asleep.
But as long as you keep practicing, you’ll gradually get used to it, fall asleep faster, and have a deeper sleep.
The second type is "Huiyang Pose."
Lu Jiu doesn’t recommend doctors teach this to young people.
This sleeping exercise enhances kidney yang, and if someone already has the habit of "fighting with hands," adhering to this posture will certainly lead to morning erections.
If one isn’t careful, this exercise could become the culprit of harming the body.
And it’s very simple: just lie flat on your back, with the soles of the feet touching, knees flat, and hands clapping together on the navel.
Even if you don’t need to enhance kidney yang, if your feet are cold, maintain this posture for less than five minutes, and your feet will warm up, no need for air conditioning or heating.
Both sleeping exercises essentially aim to enhance yang.
Whether they can enhance yang doesn’t mainly depend on the exercise itself.
The real influence on yang enhancement is sleep timing.
If you sleep at one or two every night, no matter how good the sleeping exercise is, it will have no effect.
But if you consistently go to bed at nine or ten, the sleeping exercise can work synergistically with time to achieve multiplied effects.
"Dr. Lu, how is my mother recovering?" Chen Muyao asked.
Sun Dan’s late-stage breast cancer metastasized to lung cancer, and she’s been treated by Lu Jiu for almost a year now.
Throughout the year, Sun Dan has undergone significant changes.
From not being able to live for a few months initially to now, if she doesn’t tell others she has cancer, no one would believe she’s sick.
Of course, this is thanks to Sun Dan adhering to her medication regimen.
She followed Dr. Lu’s advice to the letter, doing exactly what was prescribed.
Dr. Lu’s acupuncture and herbal medicine have indeed worked wonders.
"Very well, if we take images now, the tumor should be much smaller than from a year ago. However, since she previously had surgery, the breast has been removed. She must be cautious in the future not to suppress her emotions, and live happily. If she does that, there won’t be much of a problem. Continue this way for another year, and once the tumor shrinks further, she shouldn’t need medication anymore."
"Even if the tumor remains in your body, it shouldn’t interfere with daily life, as long as you maintain your current mood and habits. A year from now, given the tumor’s condition, it won’t worsen even by the time of your death."
Recall, there was a news story once.
In one village, everyone was elderly, and even the youngest was over ninety.
When the media reported this, doctors started conducting health checks on them.
It turned out they all had tumors, and some were even malignant.
They were all nutritionally deficient, lacking iron, calcium, zinc, and only ate rice and wild vegetables, which modern science deems nutritionally insignificant.
Yet they lived long, all collectively.
It’s said that once doctors told a few elders they had terminal illnesses, some passed away shortly after.
The truth of these follow-up claims is unverifiable.
But indeed, perceived deficiency or harboring a tumor stems from human-induced panic.
The concept of cancer in particular.
There’s a long road ahead for Traditional Chinese Medicine in repositioning cancer as not terminal.
"Dr. Lu, can I take my mom out for a trip?" Chen Muyao smiled.
In recent years, Chen Muyao hasn’t been in a good mood.
Since Sun Dan’s cancer diagnosis, she has lost considerable weight.
If not for the improvements in the past year, she’d probably have fallen ill herself.
Now, knowing that Sun Dan is recovering well, Chen Muyao wants to take her mother out, to relax and relieve their long-held stress.
She really wants to leave everything behind and have a thorough break.
"No problem, your mother doesn’t need to take her medicine as frequently now, once every three to five days is fine as long as she is consistent," Lu Jiu said with a smile.
He understood Chen Muyao’s feelings.
Thus, without hesitation, he agreed to her suggestion.
This helps not only Chen Muyao but also Sun Dan.
She needs a change of scenery and mood.
Despite her good recovery and consistent medication, Sun Dan still considers herself a patient.
This mindset isn’t particularly healthy.
Taking a break, cutting down on medication, and enjoying life like anyone else will help her overcome this identity as a patient.
This will greatly aid her ongoing recovery!
Delighted with Lu Jiu’s approval, Chen Muyao happily left the clinic with Sun Dan.
Minutes after they departed, Lu Jiu’s phone rang.
It was a call from Huang Fusheng.
He said jovially, "Teacher, haven’t you returned to Nanhe Province to handle matters? How do you have time to call me?"
However, on the phone, Huang Fusheng sounded unusually serious.
"Lu Jiu, I need your help," he said.
Hmm?
Realizing something was off, Lu Jiu straightened up and responded, "Go ahead."
"In Nanhe, multiple counties and cities have been hit by flood disasters. The affected population has reached tens of thousands, and this number is still increasing. Zhouru City, where I am, is among the most severely affected areas. Currently, there’s a dire shortage of medical resources. Can you spare some people to assist us with treatment efforts?" Huang Fusheng explained.
Flood disaster?
Has Nanhe also been hit by consecutive heavy rains?
And the number of affected people has reached tens of thousands!
Last year, Nanhe also suffered from flood disasters, affecting more than 3 million people across the province.
Though not as many people this time, the lack of any news coverage suggests the situation unfolded unexpectedly, and its impact is quickly escalating.
It seems the situation is quite critical.
"I understand, teacher. I’ll gather doctors and set out for Zhouru now," Lu Jiu assured.
"Thank you!" Huang Fusheng said.
