Chapter 237 179: Great Buddha Mountain
"To think there's actually such a thing." Lian Baishan was dumbfounded. A martial artist self-detonating—this was something he had never heard of before, it was simply unbelievable.
However, it wasn't the right time to discuss this matter at length. The two of them immediately headed towards a nearby large hall. Just moments ago, it was Lian Baishan who had opened the hall's doors, causing many of these odd individuals to escape and attack him.
To be on the safe side, he crushed the twin butterflies, notifying Qin Yuesheng to come and assess the situation.
Upon entering the hall, it was unusually dark inside, completely devoid of light, yet Qin Yuesheng used the Biluo Eye to clearly see the situation within.
What he saw was that the entire hall was filled with men and women standing upright with their eyes closed. Their attire varied greatly; some were obviously maids, some were household servants, and others were among numerous consorts.
It seemed the reason Young Master Qin and his companion encountered no night patrols upon entering the Yang Mansion was that all of the mansion's people were placed here.
Each of them stood there, motionless, looking very much like zombies. If not for the fact that Qin Yuesheng could clearly sense airflow coming from their nostrils, he would have thought the Demon Sect had killed them all.
"Why are there so many people standing?" Lian Baishan exclaimed in surprise as he took out a fire starter to illuminate the surroundings.
"Could it be that the Yang Mansion was not a spy for the Demon Sect in Yangzhou Prefecture, but rather everyone in the Yang Mansion had been controlled by the Demon Sect?" Qin Yuesheng voiced his suspicion.
"That's not impossible." Lian Baishan nodded, then approached one of the household servants and pressed his hand against the man's neck.
Then, Lian Baishan quickly tapped several points on the man's body, causing him to open his eyes instantly and a few streams of turbid air to be released from the pores throughout his body.
"Cough cough cough!" The servant's eyes soon cleared, and he stared at Lian Baishan in bewilderment, "Who are you, and where am I?"
Before Lian Baishan could explain, the man looked around at the others and seemed to be extremely frightened.
"W-where am I, who are these people, why am I here?" The servant shouted frantically before immediately trying to flee the hall in a panic.
Qin Yuesheng wasn't about to let that happen. He reached out, using the suction power of the Star-Picking Hand to forcefully pull the man back.
"Master Lian, what's up with this guy? He seems not to recognize this place, nor these people." Qin Yuesheng inquired.
"I'm not too sure either." Lian Baishan frowned, staring at the man held by Qin Yuesheng, "For safety's sake, let me question him."
After Lian Baishan conducted his inquiry, Qin Yuesheng began to understand the situation.
The household servant's real name was Zhang Jinwang, a resident of Xiaosha Village, about a hundred miles from Yangzhou Prefecture, who normally made a living by farming.
All he remembered was losing consciousness one day while farming, and nothing after that was clear until he woke up to see Qin Yuesheng and his companion.
Qin Yuesheng checked the timeline, and it turned out this man had been unconscious for three years, meaning he had lost all memories of those three years.
This revelation surprised them both—could such a thing really happen?
Consequently, Lian Baishan quickly went on to unseal the acupoints of others, and indeed, like Zhang Jinwang, none of them knew why they were here, making the hall particularly clamorous at once.
"Young Master Qin, it seems these people were fooled by the Demon Sect's manipulative methods. Even if these servants had seen something, they couldn't divulge any secrets. It's hard to imagine that the Demon Sect possesses means so heinous," Lian Baishan remarked.
"That being said, the Yang Mansion lead is now severed, and with the Demon Sect members dead, we have no way of obtaining any valuable clues from these people. It's challenging to trace and find other Demon Sect members' leads," Qin Yuesheng said, somewhat disappointed.
They initially thought the Yang Mansion was a spy base nurtured by the Demon Sect in Jiangnan, yet who would have expected that everyone in the Yang Mansion was hypnotized and puppet-like without self-awareness.
Lian Baishan approached who seemed to be the overt owner of the Yang Mansion, Master Yang.
The man was short and stout, with a ruddy complexion and radiating vitality, possessing the appearance characteristic of a wealthy family head.
Lian Baishan tapped several points on his body, freeing him just like the others, restoring him to normal.
When Master Yang opened his eyes, he didn't react in shock or panic like the others but rather sighed in relief, patting his head, "Why wake me up before dawn, have you run into some trouble again?"
Upon hearing this, Lian Baishan and Qin Yuesheng's eyes gleamed—this person seemed different from the others, as if aware of something.
"Hmm?" However, under the firelight from the fire starter in Lian Baishan's hand, Master Yang quickly noticed the two unfamiliar faces before him, whom he didn't recognize at all.
The Demon Sect operated with strict protocols, and concerning the Yang Mansion, besides the ten Demon Sect experts who came to Jiangnan this time, no one else had the authority to awaken these controlled individuals at this hour.
