Chapter 179 - 115: New Divine Power, Shadow Dressing

It all happened so fast that even Chen Xiaotian didn’t realize what was happening. One second he was talking to Shen Bai, and the next, Shen Bai was lunging at him with Cold Moon.

Because they were so close, Chen Xiaotian felt the hairs on his entire body stand on end.

The premonition of life and death flashed in his mind. In the face of danger, Chen Xiaotian abruptly rolled backward, ignoring the dust on the ground, and narrowly dodged the attack.

Blood Red Sword Qi erupted from Cold Moon, surrounding Chen Xiaotian as the follow-up attack arrived in an instant.

After dodging the first strike, Chen Xiaotian immediately pushed off with both hands, launching himself up from the ground.

Seeing the approaching Blood Red Sword Qi, Chen Xiaotian lightly slapped the wine gourd in his hand. The gourd’s cap flew open, and the wine inside sprayed out, wrapping around him to form a barrier of liquid.

The Blood Red Sword Qi entered the barrier and made a hissing sound, as if it were being corroded by the wine.

Chen Xiaotian had just caught his breath, but his expression changed drastically again.

He could feel that his wine was completely unable to defend against the Blood Red Sword Qi.

’This terrifying?’ Chen Xiaotian gritted his teeth. After spraying out all the remaining wine, he held the gourd in his hand as a massive Suction Power emanated from it.

The surrounding Blood Red Sword Qi was sucked into the wine gourd.

CRACK!

The crisp sound of something shattering suddenly rang out.

A dense network of cracks appeared on the wine gourd.

The moment the cracks appeared, they spread instantly, and the wine gourd exploded.

The aftershock of the explosion forced Chen Xiaotian back several steps, his face turning deathly pale.

Shen Bai slowly approached, holding Cold Moon. At the same time, his other hand, covered in golden Buddha’s Light, passed through the barrier of wine and grabbed Chen Xiaotian’s head.

BOOM!

A roar echoed out. Chen Xiaotian’s vision spun, and before the dizziness could fade, Shen Bai had already slammed his head into the ground.

The ground shattered, cracks spreading outward as the quiet street erupted into chaos.

Shen Bai held Chen Xiaotian’s head down and said flatly, "Don’t move. Move again and you’ll lose your head."

The words were spoken casually, as if they were a light breeze, but to Chen Xiaotian’s ears, they carried a chilling cold, like being stared at directly by a ghost.

In that instant, Chen Xiaotian suddenly understood that he had made a terrible mistake.

But he still forced himself to find a way to survive.

"Lord Shen, why are you doing this? I’m a Ghost Hunter, one who cooperates with the Observatory. I’ve done nothing wrong! Everything I do is to eliminate ghosts. You’re a Lord of the Observatory, so why would you attack me?"

Shen Bai said flatly, "A Ghost Hunter? Are you really a Ghost Hunter? If you were, why would there be bloodstains on your Wood Token?"

Chen Xiaotian froze, his eyes instinctively shifting to the Wood Token at his waist.

In the corner of the Wood Token, a dark red bloodstain was reflecting the moonlight.

Shen Bai continued, "As far as I know, Ghost Hunters take great pride in their identity and the tokens that prove it. They would never let their tokens be sullied by so much as a speck of dust. But you, ’Ghost Hunter,’ are the opposite."

"If you can’t give me a good explanation today, I’ll send you to join that ghost from earlier."

After Shen Bai spoke, a dead silence fell over the scene, so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Only the faint whisper of the wind remained on the street.

After nearly three breaths, Chen Xiaotian was still clenching his jaw, not saying a word.

Shen Bai sighed. "It seems you want to die."

His five fingers tightened slightly, and the golden Buddha’s Light grew more intense.

A cold light gleamed in Chen Xiaotian’s eyes. "Once you accept a mission, there’s no turning back. Since the mission failed, death is just death. It doesn’t matter."

Shen Bai raised an eyebrow. "You’re from the Dark Tower."

"So Lord Shen knows of the Dark Tower?" Chen Xiaotian sneered. "I would have thought a man in your position as Ding Shou wouldn’t concern himself with vermin like us."

Shen Bai shook his head. "If you’re from the Dark Tower, then there’s nothing more to say."

As his voice fell, the Buddha’s Light in Shen Bai’s hand blazed with the fury of a Furious Vajra.

Shen Bai tore off Chen Xiaotian’s head and tossed it aside like a broken sack.

"The Dark Tower..."

As Shen Bai had recently been learning about Fenglin State, he had come across this organization.

He had read intelligence reports about the Dark Tower. It was an assassin organization hidden within Fenglin State, and much like the former Upper Evil Sect, they were as filthy and foul as rats in the sewer.

They took on any job and were a bunch of desperados, even more crazed than the members of the Upper Evil Sect.

And if they failed a mission, they would never allow themselves to be taken alive.

Because every member of the Dark Tower had blood on their hands and knew that even more horrific torture awaited them if they were captured.

For that very reason, Shen Bai knew he couldn’t get any information out of Chen Xiaotian, so he had simply killed him without hesitation.

However, Shen Bai was also well aware that if assassins from the Dark Tower were after him, it must be because they had accepted a bounty on his head.

’Looks like those people still haven’t given up on me. I just wonder which faction it is this time.’ Shen Bai opened the door and went back inside his home.

As things stood in Fenglin State, if anyone still wanted him dead, the Wild Taoist Sect and the Wild Buddha Sect were the prime suspects. As for anyone else, Shen Bai wouldn’t even give them a second glance.

’Whatever. I’ll just focus on grinding my Skill Level for now.’
