Chapter 789 - 788: Finished Reading
Soon, people in long robes pushing carts threaded through the area, placing a bowl of porridge beside each person and leaving quietly, since any disturbance would be pointless.Beisitian and Desan were drawn to this scene, turning their heads to watch. Their reaction startled the servers, who stopped in their tracks, gawking at them.
"These two must be the ones we specially prepared meals for," the head of the dining service quickly said as he regained his composure.
The robed person in charge of this area nodded promptly, pushing the cart over swiftly and placing two exquisite meals in front of them.
Beisitian and Desan opened the meals to find two meat dishes, two vegetarian dishes, and a soup, prepared as if by a personal chef, not from a large pot.
"Why do they all have porridge?" Desan couldn’t help but ask.
The server replied politely, "You two are awake, if the meal was too complex, the others couldn’t take more than a few bites."
With that explanation, Desan and Beisitian understood.
Beisitian noticed the server take out a bowl of porridge, then suddenly realized, seeing him place it in front of Wei Zhongxun, that this jerk had quietly slipped into the zone!
Watching Wei Zhongxun raise the bowl and down the porridge without lifting his head, continuing to read, Beisitian felt at a loss for words.
"Third Doctor, do you need an apprentice?" Beisitian asked expressionlessly.
Desan froze, puzzled, "What did you say?"
Beisitian looked heavily at Wei Zhongxun, "If he can’t pull himself away from the book, this apprentice is yours for free."
Desan turned and scrutinized Wei Zhongxun, shaking his head at the thought of an apprentice who called him Old De every day. Not respectful at all, better give him to someone else.
Maybe he had a sense or the air conditioning was too low, but Wei Zhongxun suddenly shivered.
After their meal, Beisitian and Desan got up and strolled around the vicinity, free as no one bothered them.
Among these people, Desan encountered several hospital chief physicians he knew. Usually, they treated him very coldly, looking down on him as if from a great height.
So Desan decided to take revenge!
He asked the person in charge for a brush and drew all over their faces until they were unrecognizable...
Zhang Mosheng, witnessing this on the surveillance screens, twitched the corners of his mouth. Such an old rascal!
And right beside was someone seeming normal, yet behaving mischievously—commenting and evaluating those unsightly faces, encouraging Desan even more...
Yan Jiu, seeing this, felt a twitch in his eyelid, sensing a serious issue looming.
"Steward Zhang, should we clean them up tomorrow?"
Zhang Mosheng fell silent upon hearing this. Indeed, those here were all professionals worthy of respect, but...
Now that someone even more professional has come here, what should they do? Clean them up and risk offending this Great Power? Or not, and risk newcomers thinking they’re mistreating them?
Zhang Mosheng gave a slight cough, turned around, and walked out, "There’s one matter I haven’t reported, almost neglected an important task. You all handle things here for now."
Yan Jiu: "..."
Feng Qi: "..."
Steward Zhang’s skill at shirking responsibility is unmatched!
Here, time was irrelevant; most slept when tired and read upon waking, seeing time merely as a concept.
On the third day, Beisitian finished a book first, while in the afternoon, Desan also finished his.
At this point, Wei Zhongxun’s progress was nearing two-thirds, though his pace slowed, showing a hint of conflict on his face.
Beisitian decided not to let Wei Zhongxun read on. Such a look of conflict indicated his accumulated issues had reached a certain level; further reading would be tough and possibly lead to misconceptions.
Beisitian took a small bottle of talismanic water from her bag, gently dabbed some on Wei Zhongxun’s forehead, and whispered in his ear, "Do not focus ahead, keep your mind centered, you must exit on your own!"
Beisitian was not using any special Xuan Talisman, just a refreshing mint, to make Wei Zhongxun hear her.
Sure enough, Wei Zhongxun heard Beisitian, blinked repeatedly, his face turning pale, obviously struggling to pull out of it.
"Keep your mind centered!" Beisitian urged sharply upon seeing this.
Wei Zhongxun quickly closed his eyes, hands trembling, tossed the book aside, his forehead beading with sweat, but upon reopening his eyes, clarity returned to them.
Beisitian nodded with satisfaction, pleased that Wei Zhongxun’s mental strength was decent, withdrawing from the book’s world quickly and with little effort.
Though still pale, Wei Zhongxun adjusted swiftly, looking sheepishly at Beisitian, "Carelessly slipped into it."
Beisitian shrugged, "Unreliable."
Wei Zhongxun’s heart cracked, the mentor no longer believed in him...
Having finished the entire book, Beisitian knew someone would soon come for her—she was done reading, but still had unresolved questions and doubts that needed clarifying, hopefully soon.
With this in mind, she soon saw a short man with a two-pronged little moustache approach as the lead.
"Three of you, please follow me." nodding slightly, Zhang Mosheng gestured politely, taking the lead in walking ahead.
Beisitian and the other two followed behind.
Treading a different path from what brought them, Zhang Mosheng led them down another route, passing through several scenes until they entered a passage.
Upon entering this passage, it felt as if they returned to the real world, with fluorescent lights overhead casting shadows on the walls, suggesting they were underground.
After traversing the tunnel, they reached a place with tracks, similar to those in a mine shaft soon hearing a rumble as a boxy rail car stopped in front of them.
The rail car had just one carriage, seating five or six people comfortably, fitting them all easily.
To their surprise, such a place actually had tracks and a car, suggesting that their destination was quite far?
The rail car traveled for about twenty minutes, leading Beisitian to estimate they’d covered at least thirty kilometers, their direction seeming to suggest a return to the city?
This was mere speculation; being underground, Beisitian couldn’t accurately discern directions.
After leaving the car, they followed Zhang Mosheng through a passage and then up an elevator.
Above the elevator likely lay their destination.
