I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 384 - 383

Chapter 384 - 383

"No, it doesn’t hurt..."Tian Ying stared blankly at the man in front of her. She always thought that her elder cousin brother and that cousin brother-in-law were the most handsome, and indeed they were extremely handsome, but this man was even more charming!

Those two might be handsome, but they had a coldness to them. This man’s expression wasn’t so stern. She even wanted to use the word "beautiful" to describe him, and his smile was so gentle, his voice so appealing!

Wei Zhongxun saw Tian Ying’s expression and knew he had successfully won over a little admirer. He was very confident in his appearance, especially to girls Tian Ying’s age, he was almost an unbeatable heartthrob...well, it seems there was one person not taken by his unmatched looks.

A beautiful, delicate face flashed through his mind, along with those bright yet clear eyes. However, he wouldn’t admit it was because he wasn’t charming enough—surely it was because she was already married and psychologically couldn’t entertain such fantasies!

Wei Zhongxun chuckled, "As long as you’re alright." With that, he was about to leave.

Tian Ying wanted to slap herself as soon as she spoke. How could she say she was alright?

"Ouch...my foot..." Tian Ying crouched down, her face filled with an expression of pain, yet it aroused a sense of pity, "It didn’t hurt just now; it only hurts when I move!"

"It must be from the bump earlier, let me help you!" Wei Zhongxun stepped forward gently to support Tian Ying.

Wei Zhongxun was a master at flirting, and Tian Ying was not to be outdone; she was equally skilled at charming men.

The two flirted with each other, naturally sparking a faux passion.

In the Tian Family, ever since Beisitian returned at midday, she had stayed in her room and hadn’t eaten lunch.

Her current room was personally arranged for her by Dong Fengzhen, right in the inner courtyard, next to their living quarters. Outside, Tian Heming and Tian Hezhen, the two old brothers, were guarding it, and no one would dare set foot in here!

When Tian Hezhen returned, he only then learned of Doctor Bei’s connections to the Tian Family. He was so moved he nearly shed tears of joy, fortunate that only his brother and sister-in-law were present, or it would have been quite embarrassing!

Even though Tian Hezhen was already senior in age like Tian Heming, and related to Beisitian, he didn’t dare assume airs or really take the role of an elder.

Tian Heming knew his cousin had a kind character and integrity, and seeing how he understood the situation made him quite relieved. Without that, he wouldn’t have involved Tian Hezhen in treating General Zhou, nor informed him of Beisitian’s ties to the Tian Family.

Knowing Beisitian’s purpose at the Tian Family, Tian Heming and Tian Hezhen discussed and decided the two old brothers would personally guard her, thus avoiding disturbances from some older members.

Just now, Feng Yue from the second son’s house rushed over, demanding another bottle of that medicine from Beisitian. Had someone from her own generation been present, she would surely have tried to persist, but in the presence of the two patriarchs of the Tian Family, she dared not.

It was odd indeed; after all, it was just a nap, yet they’d stayed in the courtyard for such a long time, as if standing guard.

However, the thought only passed fleetingly, assuming it was just coincidence.

Nonetheless, Feng Yue felt somewhat displeased inwardly. Even though Beisitian was just a granddaughter, she was given a room in the inner courtyard, a privilege only the eldest’s family had—others had accommodations in the outer courtyard.

Though they usually didn’t stay there, having it signified a place for their family in the main house.

Tian Heming and Tian Hezhen weren’t always inside the courtyard; though the coldest days had passed, the weather was still very cold. They sat by the window drinking tea, watching the courtyard through the glass.

Beisitian still hadn’t come out, and by now it was almost eight o’clock. Dong Fengzhen, standing in the courtyard looking at the tightly closed door, felt worried. She hadn’t eaten lunch, nor dinner—how could she possibly endure this?

She wanted to call for Beisitian but feared disturbing her.

At this moment, Beisitian in her heart was not just a Mystic Doctor but her grandchild. After the initial surprise, Dong Fengzhen didn’t have any other thoughts; Beisitian was her beloved daughter’s daughter, her precious granddaughter!

Dong Fengzhen paced in the courtyard, and Tian Heming and Tian Hezhen also came out to stand there, together waiting expectantly.

By eight-thirty, Dong Fengzhen couldn’t wait any longer and stepped toward the house, only to be held back by Tian Heming.

Dong Fengzhen turned back with a glare, "Don’t stop me, I don’t care who you’re treating. You can’t let this child waste away like this; even if you’re young, this exhaustion can’t be sustained!"

Tian Heming stopped Dong Fengzhen not out of fear she’d interrupt Beisitian from making the Xuan Talisman, but because he’d heard disturbing someone during talisman making could harm the maker.

Though these were merely hearsay, Tian Heming dared not gamble—they couldn’t risk harming Beisitian!

Seeing his wife angry, he quickly whispered his reasoning to her, and Dong Fengzhen’s expression softened, thinking if her husband was that selfish, she’d be utterly blind!

"Why do you suppose she hasn’t come out yet? Is making the Xuan Talisman that difficult?" Dong Fengzhen asked her old man, frowning.

Tian Heming had no idea; he wasn’t a Mystic Doctor, nor had he witnessed talisman making, so all he could do was comfort her.

As the couple spoke in low tones, Tian Hezhen suddenly pointed to the door and said, "Look, she seems to be coming out."

He noticed a figure moving inside.

The room was a suite, with a hall outside and a bedroom inside. It was pitch dark looking in, and he couldn’t tell if the light was on inside.

Just as Tian Hezhen spoke, they saw Beisitian open the door and come out.

The three of them rushed over.

"Beibei, you must be starving, let’s eat first!" said Dong Fengzhen, pulling Beisitian towards their living room. Dinner had long been prepared, but after sitting out, it needed reheating.

Beisitian expected the first words she’d hear to be ’Did you succeed?’ but instead, it was this, bringing a little smile to her lips, warming her heart.

Tian Heming assessed her face quietly but couldn’t discern anything and asked no further questions. Seeing the old couple withholding their inquiries, Tian Hezhen refrained from asking as well, and the four of them headed to the main house together.

"Have some hot water first, I’ll go reheat the meal." Dong Fengzhen handed Beisitian a cup of water and then took the food to the outside kitchen for reheating.

Only then did Tian Heming ask, "How did it go?"

Beisitian shook her head slightly. The Xuan Talisman she made so far wouldn’t heal General Zhou’s illness; instead, if ingested, it could end his life!

She felt she must have overlooked something, causing her repeated failures. There had to be at least one missing herb, resulting in this outcome!
