Chapter 380 - 379: Apology
Chapter 380 - 379: Apology
Zheng Lulu pursed her lips. It’s more than just having nightmares; it’s unlikely she’ll ever set foot in this alley in her lifetime. From a young age, she feared these ghost legends. If Beisitian doesn’t reveal his true self, she might get so scared she’ll need to see a psychologist. As she thought about it, Zheng Lulu was a bit dazed, thinking about those families she scared away. Those people probably don’t just have nightmares for a few days and then move on.
Initially, Zheng Lulu didn’t think much of it, even found it amusing to watch their scared reactions. But just now, she was scared so much that her heart nearly stopped beating, and she realized it was no fun at all.
Was she being too excessive before?
Zheng Lulu remained silent, growing more uneasy with each thought. Especially since two families had young children; she felt bad upon hearing the children’s cries, not foreseeing the potential consequences, nor what kind of psychological burden it might place on those children.
Zheng Lulu’s face showed a look of panic.
Seeing this, Beisitian shook his head, gently swiping under her nose, causing Zheng Lulu to catch a faint scent, and suddenly her body was able to move.
Slowly sitting up, she lowered her head and mumbled, "I-I made a mistake..."
But saying she’s wrong now wouldn’t change anything as those people wouldn’t hear it, and the shadows left behind were still there. How could she be so reckless?
"Does your sister-in-law know about this?" Beisitian asked.
Zheng Lulu shook her sharp face, pale as a sheet, "I put a little sleeping pill in the water she drinks at night...just a small amount..." Before Beisitian could continue asking, she confessed voluntarily.
Zhou Yunxia already doesn’t sleep well at night and occasionally takes sleeping pills as a sleep aid.
Beisitian also thinks Zhou Yunxia probably doesn’t know. Judging from her behavior today, it seems Zheng Lulu doesn’t often come around here, perhaps only coming by when hearing someone new has moved in.
"I’ll let you off today, but don’t do this anymore," Beisitian said, opening the door and signaling her to leave.
Zheng Lulu, somewhat surprised, saw that Beisitian wasn’t joking and genuinely meant to let her go, hurriedly stood up and walked out. As she reached the courtyard, she glanced back, seeing Beisitian locking the door before turning away.
The next day, Beisitian had Zhou Quan find some people to block up the doghole. Although adult men couldn’t get in, children and women could. With such a place, Beisitian couldn’t sleep peacefully at night.
Zhou Quan was genuinely shocked upon seeing the doghole, especially noticing signs of people coming and going around it, making him feel weak in the legs. He had been extremely careful, yet never imagined such a loophole existed here, despite specially inspecting the place after buying it.
Zhou Quan wouldn’t dare take any chances and led a thorough search of the entire yard, even sealing up any mouseholes tightly, only then feeling a bit more secure.
"Don’t tell Xudong about this," Beisitian said.
Zhou Quan was just hoping to avoid it, knowing Brother Dong would flay him alive if he found out!
Even though Brother Dong is gentle and considerate with his wife, he is quite strict with them as brothers, yet very loyal!
Just as Zhou Quangang walked away with his men, Zheng Lulu arrived at the door, this time using the front entrance, holding two plastic bags, standing in the courtyard as Beisitian turned to go inside.
"Come in," Beisitian said.
Zheng Lulu relaxed her demeanor, hurriedly following inside.
"Um...I bought some things to apologize," Zheng Lulu said, bowing deeply at a ninety-degree angle.
Beisitian smiled, "I didn’t suffer any loss, no need for this."
Zheng Lulu almost wanted to roll her eyes; yes, yesterday she was almost scared to death! She came here to apologize, so don’t poke her sore spot.
"I didn’t realize before..." Zheng Lulu knew this excuse was baseless; one can’t justify causing harm to others by claiming ignorance.
Zheng Lulu couldn’t sleep at all after going back yesterday, feeling worse the more she thought about it, wishing she could slap herself, thinking about how despicable her actions were!
She even thought about finding those families, personally apologizing face-to-face, to tell them it was all fake and that there were no ghosts. But she didn’t know who those people were, nor where to find them.
Zheng Lulu was downcast, feeling tormented, nearly twenty years old and still unreliable in handling things.
Beisitian poured a glass of water for her, saying, "Putting on that expression, who are you trying to impress?"
Zheng Lulu held back, but couldn’t resist, "Certainly not for you. You didn’t suffer any loss."
She returned the words directly to Beisitian.
Beisitian couldn’t help but laugh, so young yet with such a fiery temper.
"How do you know I’m human and not a ghost?" Zheng Lulu asked curiously. After scaring so many people without being recognized, how did Beisitian uncover her instantly?
Beisitian scratched her cheek, wondering how to say she always felt that the ghost from the Otherworld was more formidable than these local ones!
Zheng Lulu suddenly flashed a flattering smile, "Sis, what method did you use yesterday? Why did I become weak all over once you swiped under my nose?"
If it was a knockout drug, she shouldn’t have been aware, and later, when Beisitian swiped again, she instantly recovered.
"Why should I tell you?" Beisitian raised an eyebrow.
Zheng Lulu chuckled, "I’m curious, just tell me how it happened."
"It’s just a medicine, one that can make someone lose all strength."
Zheng Lulu was clearly dissatisfied with Beisitian’s answer, feeling it was too brief.
"Indeed, many herbs have a temporary numbing effect, but none make one recover instantly!" Zheng Lulu feared she wouldn’t believe her and listed several types of herbs.
Beisitian was slightly surprised by Zheng Lulu’s herbal knowledge, not common among regular people.
"You know herbs?"
Zheng Lulu proudly lifted her face, "Of course! I’m an excellent Chinese medicine doctor; herbal knowledge is fundamental for us, so I naturally understand it!"
Beisitian was greatly surprised, "You’re a Chinese medicine doctor?"
Zheng Lulu thought she didn’t believe her, "Though young, I’m already interning at the city’s Chinese medicine hospital; once my internship is completed, I will officially be a Chinese medicine doctor!"
"Isn’t your age a bit early to be a doctor?" Beisitian meant no other intent, merely pointing out that normally, at this age, one’s exposure to cases is limited, and comparing five years with fifteen years, the number of cases encountered needn’t be explained further.
Zheng Lulu was slightly annoyed, "Don’t underestimate me. When my grandfather used to make house calls, I tagged along, witnessing many illnesses and cases firsthand. I have plenty of experience!"
