Chapter 335 - 334: Medicinal Cuisine
As soon as Luo Jiacheng asked, he heard the door creak, and it was Beisitian and Luo Xuping herding the sheep back home, but Zhuangzhuang didn’t come back with them."Big brother and sister-in-law have arrived." Beisitian wore her usual light smile on her face.
At this moment, Beisitian was dressed in a sky-blue cotton coat. Ever since Shao Simin bought a woolen coat, she never wore her cotton coat anymore, always feeling it looked rustic. However, when Beisitian wore it, it didn’t look rustic at all. If someone is good-looking, everything they wear looks good.
Shao Simin didn’t want to admit it, but Beisitian indeed looked very pretty. Moreover, she had an aura that was beyond her comparison.
When Luo Xuping came in, he saw Luo Jiacheng. He’d never had a child of his age at home before. The two kids stared at each other curiously, intrigued by one another.
"Jiacheng, you should call him Uncle," Luo Xuhua said, patting his son’s head.
Luo Jiacheng was bewildered, thinking about their close age, wondering why he had to call him uncle.
Luo Xuping was also bewildered, realizing he was now an uncle?
"Go on, say it," Luo Xuhua coaxed gently.
Jiacheng, always obedient, was reluctant, but he called him uncle with a pout, surprising Luo Xuping, who realized he really was an uncle now!
Luo Xuping was overjoyed. Elders in the family always give gifts to the younger generation. Now suddenly being an elder, he didn’t know what to do, thinking about what gift to give, so he turned and dashed back to the west room.
Shao Simin shook her head slightly, thinking rural children were just raised too rough. But her son was well-mannered and wouldn’t make mistakes in etiquette.
As soon as she thought that, she saw Luo Xuping come back with a small bag, smiling happily, and said to Luo Jiacheng, "My sister told me it’s manners to reciprocate when someone addresses you as ’Uncle.’ Since you called me Uncle, here’s a gift from me. Uncle hasn’t started making money yet, so I can’t give you a red envelope, but when Uncle grows up, I’ll make it up to you!"
Luo Xuping spoke sincerely like an adult, which made everyone laugh uncontrollably.
Luo Xuping scratched his head, a bit embarrassed. Did he say something wrong? He looked at Beisitian, who smiled and nodded at him, indicating he wasn’t wrong, and he felt relieved again. If he wasn’t wrong, then why was everyone laughing?
Luo Jiacheng took the package and found toys and snacks inside, immediately beaming with joy, thinking calling him Uncle wasn’t in vain.
Shao Simin glanced inside the bag and was surprised to find many snacks that children liked and popular toys too. It was obvious these were bought by the Luo Xudong couple.
The two children got along well and quickly became familiar with each other after saying a few words. Luo Xuping took Luo Jiacheng to the west room, and they started playing.
"Huazi, let’s have dinner at second uncle’s tonight," Luo Anguo said with determination, clearly implying that any objections from the eldest brother could come to him.
For Luo Xuhua, having the first meal back home with his wife was essential, since Old Mrs. Luo and Qin Hongmei were on the other side, making it fresh if they could enjoy the meal.
Luo Xuhua nodded in agreement. He also hoped to leave a good impression on his wife. After all, this was his hometown, and he didn’t want his wife to look down on it.
Dinner was prepared by Mrs. Qin and Beisitian, with Shao Simin rolling up her sleeves to help. Mrs. Qin and Shao Simin assisted Beisitian, and although the dishes weren’t overly greasy, each one was full of color, aroma, and taste, enough to make anyone drool just by smelling them.
"Sitiang, what are you adding to the dishes?" Shao Simin asked curiously, noticing Beisitian putting things in the dishes that weren’t condiments.
Beisitian smiled slightly and said, "Herbs, these herbs are good for the body."
Shao Simin was slightly surprised upon hearing, "Herbal cuisine?"
Beisitian glanced at her briefly, seemingly surprised by her knowledge, and replied, "Yes."
Shao Simin knew Beisitian was a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) practitioner, but not all TCM practitioners excel at herbal cuisine. Judging by Beisitian’s demeanor, she was clearly skilled. Some of the herbs were familiar to Shao Simin, as one of Luo Xuhua’s business ventures was herbal cuisine. However, they never got it right, and every year the herbal cuisine business saw a loss, making her want to persuade Luo Xuhua to drop it.
However, Luo Xuhua was persistent, believing the venture had great market potential in the future. As people’s quality of life improved, they would begin focusing on health and wellness.
One had to admit that Luo Xuhua had a somewhat long-term vision.
But Shao Simin was not very optimistic about this venture, questioning what "future" truly meant. They primarily focused on ventures with current potential. Yet if Beisitian’s food turned out delicious, she might consider giving money in exchange for some expertise.
But this was just a fleeting thought. Business decisions largely depended on Luo Xuhua; she was nowhere near as sharp as him in this regard.
The meal was soon ready, and dish by dish, it was brought to the table. Everyone gathered around.
"Wow, Sitiang’s cooking is really something. It’s making my mouth water even before tasting!" Luo Xuhua praised with a smile.
Shao Simin wasn’t upset by this either, as even she admired Beisitian’s culinary skills, which were far better than her own!
"Sitiang is quite talented; these are all herbal dishes!" Shao Simin knew how to complement while subtly reminding Luo Xuhua.
Luo Xuhua was surprised, "Sitiang can make herbal dishes?"
Many people think making herbal cuisine is easy, just incorporating health-boosting herbs like goji berries, longan, or dates. But in reality, crafting fine herbal cuisine is indeed challenging.
It’s similar to prescribing traditional Chinese medicine. All TCM practitioners can write prescriptions, but their effectiveness varies. The key lies in the combination of herbs and their dosage, which is challenging for non-professionals to judge.
Luo Xuhua’s project team had a few TCM doctors skilled in herbal cuisine, but the outcomes weren’t as remarkable as he’d hoped. He understood that the benefits of herbal cuisine show over time.
This project had been one of his most significant financial losses to date, profitless despite the large quantities of herbs invested. It felt like a bottomless pit, yet he couldn’t bear to abandon it.
"Our Little Tian’er is truly exceptional in making herbal cuisine. You saw the state of our health before, Huazi, and now look at us," Mrs. Qin laughed as she spoke.
Luo Xuhua had noticed this long ago. On his last visit, Luo Anguo was bedridden, and Mrs. Qin was blind. Later, he learned over the phone that they had both recovered. Still, he didn’t entirely believe it was all Beisitian’s doing, suspecting they must have gone to a major hospital with some money.
