Lilith pointed at Rocky. "You. Wift Wiwwy up high."

Rocky's stone face cracked into a small smile. He walked over and lifted Lilith into the air with ease. She shrieked with laughter, kicking her feet.

"Higher!" she demanded.

Rocky lifted her higher.

"MOUNTAIN HIGH!"

Rocky lifted her as high as he could, and Lilith spread her arms out like she was flying. "Wiwwy is queen!" she shouted. "EVERYONE WISTEN TO WIWWY!"

Sable watched his sister rule over the room of older children and shook his head. "She's going to be trouble," he said.

Lucien stood beside him, arms crossed. "She already is trouble."

"Yss you're right, but she is our baby sister" Sable said with fond expression, he wants to spoil his baby sister until he can.

Lucien was quiet for a moment, watching Lilith order Rocky to spin her around. Then he said, "Yes. She is."

Vlad Jr. approached them, his wings rustling softly. "I've prepared a schedule for the three days," he said, pulling a folded paper from his pocket. "Meal times, activity rotations, and designated nap time for Lilith."

Sable raised an eyebrow. "Nap time? She won't agree to that."

Vlad Jr. smiled. "She will if I tell her it's mandatory for babies."

Sable stared at him. Then he laughed. "You're good."

Vlad Jr. bowed slightly. "I try."

Felix finished his peach and tossed the pit out the window. He wiped his mouth with the back of his furry paw. "The stream is good for fishing," he said. "And the orchard has more peaches than we can eat."

Drake nodded enthusiastically, bits of peach still on his face. "I already ate seven."

"That's disgusting," Luna said.

Drake shrugged. "Dragons eat a lot."

Luna rolled her eyes.

Lucien looked around the cottage, his red eyes scanning every corner. The others were all there. But someone was missing.

"Where is Boo?" Lucien asked, finally noticing.

Luna looked up from where she was sitting. "Oh? He is probably hiding somewhere."

Lilith's eyes widened instantly, and her whole face lit up like someone had just told her it was her birthday. "Hide and seek? HIDE AND SEEK!" she shrieked.

Before anyone could stop her, she wiggled out of rocky's arms, dropped to the ground, and took off running. Her small legs pumped as fast as they could carry her, her black curls bounced. She disappeared behind a chair, then under a table, then behind a curtain.

"BOO! WHERE BOO?" she shouted. "COME OUT, BOO! WIWWY FIND YOU!"

The older children watched her go, and every single one of them face-palmed at the same time. Vlad Jr. pressed his fingers to his forehead. Felix looked bored. Drake's wings drooped. Luna sighed. Kelpie shook his head. Rocky's stone face somehow looked embarrassed.

Sable groaned. "Wiw... I mean, Lily, it's not—"

But Lilith was already gone, her voice echoing from somewhere behind the couch. "BOO! WIWWY FIND YOU! YOU CAN'T HIDE FROM WIWWY!"

Lucien pinched the bridge of his nose. "She's going to tear this cottage apart looking for him."

Sable sighed. "Probably. But she's having fun."

Then, from behind a tall bookshelf in the corner, something moved.

Lilith stopped running and tilted her head. Her crimson eyes narrowed suspiciously. "Boo?" she whispered.

The shadows behind the bookshelf shifted, and then a small figure leaped out from behind it with a loud, "BOOOO!"

Lilith screamed. Not a scared scream, but a delighted one, high and shrill and full of joy. She stumbled backward, her feet tangling beneath her, and she landed on the floor with a soft thump. But she was laughing, her whole body shaking with giggles.

Boo floated in front of her, his silver eyes bright and mischievous as always .He looked like he was around seven years old now. His form was more solid and more defined then before. He grinned at her, showing off his translucent teeth.

"I scared you!" Boo announced proudly.

Lilith sat up, still giggling, her curls a mess around her face. "BOO! YOU SCARED WIWWY!"

"That was the point!"

She scrambled to her feet and reached for him with both hands. "Boo! Wiwwy found you!"

Boo floated backward, laughing. "You didn't find me! I jumped out and scared you!"

Lilith stomped her small foot. "Same same!"

"It's not the same thing at all!"

"Same same same!" Lilith insisted, putting her hands on her hips. "Wiwwy found you wif her eyes. Dat is finding."

Boo opened his mouth to argue, then closed it. He had learned long ago that arguing with Lilith Nightshade was like arguing with a hurricane. You could try, but you would lose.

Lucien walked over and picked Lilith up, settling her on his hip. "Boo was hiding because he wanted to surprise you."

Lilith nodded seriously, her crimson eyes wide. "Boo good hider. Boot Wiwwy good finder. Wiwwy best finder in whole castwe."

Boo puffed out his chest. "I'm the best hider in the whole universe!"

Lilith shook her head. "Nu-uh. Wiwwy best finder."

"Best hider!"

"Best finder!"

"Best hider!"

"Best finder AND best hider!" Lilith declared, pointing at Boo and then at herself. "Team! Boo hide, Wiwwy find. To-ge-der."

Boo's silver eyes lit up. "Team?"

Lilith nodded firmly. "Team. Bestest team ever."

"Bestest team ever!" Boo agreed.

They tried to high-five, but Lilith's hand passed right through Boo's misty fingers. Lilith looked at her hand, then at Boo, then back at her hand.

"Boo, you not solid," she said, confused.

Boo shrugged. "I'm a ghost."

"Oh." Lilith thought about this for a moment. "Den... air high-five?"

She held up her hand again. Boo pressed his misty palm against hers. It looked like nothing was touching, but Lilith smiled anyway.

"Best high-five ever," she whispered.

Vlad Jr. clapped his hands twice. "Dinner is served."

Lilith's eyes grew huge. "DINNER!" She wiggled in Lucien's arms until he put her down, then she ran toward the table as fast as her little legs could carry her. "Wiwwy so hungwy! Wiwwy wants peaches! And bwead! And... and... evewything!"

Felix, still holding a peach, watched her climb onto a chair. "She eats a lot for someone so small."

Sable and Lucien agreed.

The children gathered around the long wooden table, and Lilith sat between her brothers, her small legs swinging beneath her. Boo floated beside her, occasionally reaching for food on her plate when he thought no one was looking.

Lilith caught him once. "Boo! Dat is Wiwwy's peach!"

Boo pulled his hand back. "I was just looking."

"Wooking wif your fingers?"

"...Yes."

Lilith narrowed her eyes, then broke off a tiny piece of peach and held it up to him. "Here. Wiwwy share. 'Cause we team."

Boo's transparent cheeks somehow looked pink. He took the peach piece and ate it.

"Good?" Lilith asked.

Boo nodded. "Good."

Lilith smiled her gummy, toothless, completely ridiculous smile. "Good."
