Chapter 554: Mission
Jie Ming stood in place, watching the figures of the high-ranking wizards rapidly disappear into various parts of the ship plane.
In the distance, the rumbling of disordered energy still echoed, along with the startled cries and angry roars of wizards from other areas.
It seemed the wave of attacks just now had affected a far wider range than he had imagined.
“The expeditionary force probably hasn’t encountered an invasion of this scale before.”
Jie Ming withdrew his gaze and quickly analyzed in his mind.
If something like this had happened previously, the ship plane’s defenses could not possibly have reacted in such a flustered manner.
Those high-ranking wizards would not have rushed over to provide support only now.
Moreover, the timing of the mutual attacks had been far too coincidental.
This meant… Those information beings had planned this assault in advance.
Jie Ming looked down at his own hand, as if a faint wisp of gorgeous mist still lingered on his fingertips.
It was a trace of Incense Fire Poison that had accidentally adhered to him earlier. Although it had already been cleaned away by the Fate Subsystem, that eerie aura remained fresh in his memory.
“Why was the Incense Fire Poison so effective?”
Jie Ming frowned.
In essence, Incense Fire Poison was nothing more than garbage information formed from the mixture of malicious thoughts, obsessions, and resentments of billions of living beings.
In terms of complexity, it was indeed higher than ordinary information turbulence, but weren’t the beings of the Information Plane the most skilled at processing information?
It was just a pile of junk data, why had their reaction been so intense?
To be honest, Jie Ming had used the Incense Fire Poison mostly just to vent his anger and disgust the other side a little.
But judging from the opponent’s reaction, it had been a bit too extreme.
“Interesting.”
Jie Ming noted the question in his mind, deciding that he would definitely study it in depth when he had the chance later.
But now was not the time for thinking.
He turned and headed toward the core area of the camp.
Along the way, busy wizards were everywhere.
Some were repairing damaged protective arrays, some were treating companions who had fallen into silence, and others stared warily at the fissure in the sky, afraid that the next wave of attacks would descend without warning.
Jie Ming extended his spiritual power and began helping to repair the tampered runes.
His attainments in alchemy and rune studies were not low, so repairing runes came naturally to him.
One disordered rune after another was straightened out by him, and the madly flickering energy circuits gradually stabilized.
He worked like this for most of the day.
By the time all the arrays had finally returned to normal, Jie Ming stood up and stretched his slightly stiff neck.
Then he heard a number that made him frown.
“Another three thousand seven hundred silenced individuals have been added.”
A wizard in charge of statistics reported the number with a gloomy expression.
Jie Ming glanced at the newly added medical pods at the edge of the camp—their number was staggeringly dense.
The wizards lying inside breathed steadily with calm expressions, but everyone knew they would not be waking up anytime soon.
The atmosphere grew exceptionally heavy.
At that moment, a powerful pressure descended from the sky.
A sixth-ring wizard hovered in midair, his gaze sweeping over everyone present.
“From now on, all probing operations must be conducted within designated zones.”
He raised his hand and slashed through the air. A massive light screen unfolded, displaying a detailed map of the ship plane.
Several red circles were marked on it, scattered across various parts of the ship plane.
“These areas will be equipped with specialized defensive arrays. Anyone who wishes to continue probing may only release cannon fodder units within these zones. The arrays will isolate signals at the first sign of invasion, preventing what happened today from recurring.”
With that, the high-ranking wizard’s figure vanished.
Jie Ming looked at the red circles and noticed that one of them was not far from his current location.
At the same time, his magic network terminal received a mission regarding the construction of the relevant arrays.
Without another word, he flew directly toward that direction.
By the time he arrived, quite a few wizards were already busy there.
Runes were being inscribed on the ground one after another, and massive energy nodes were being erected.
Jie Ming landed and immediately joined them.
He brought several black giant priests and began setting up defensive structures he specialized in within the area.
While busy, a wizard suddenly walked up to him.
“Lord Jie Ming? Lord Martin requests your presence.”
Jie Ming raised his head, somewhat surprised.
He handed over the work in his hands to the black giant priests and followed the wizard away.
After passing through several temporarily erected energy barriers, Jie Ming was led to a relatively quiet area.
Martin stood ahead with his back to him, gazing at the massive black fissure in the distance.
“You’re here?”
Martin turned around, a faint smile rarely appearing on his face.
“Wizard Martin…”
“No need for formalities.” He raised a hand to stop Jie Ming’s intended bow. “I have some friendship with Clark. You can just call me senior.”
Jie Ming nodded. “Senior Martin.”
Martin looked at Jie Ming with a trace of appreciation in his eyes.
“You handled that attack earlier quite well.”
Jie Ming did not humble himself and simply listened quietly.
Martin continued, “I noticed that method of yours for enhancing computational power. Not only can it help you resist invasions, it can also easily connect to other wizards’ computational systems.”
Jie Ming’s heart stirred.
He roughly understood why Martin had summoned him.
“Can this method be popularized?”
Martin asked straightforwardly.
“If we can let more wizards possess this ability, we can stack everyone’s computational power together. At that point, facing those information beings, we won’t be as passive as we were today.”
Upon hearing this, Jie Ming quickly pondered in his mind.
Popularizing the Fate Subsystem… was indeed feasible.
The difficulty was not high either. Without needing to reveal core techniques, he only needed to set up receiving altars at key nodes and grant temporary permissions for specific wizards within range to borrow a portion of the Fate Subsystem’s computational power.
The benefits were obvious.
Wizards advocated equivalent exchange. Although “Ashheart” Martin had not explained in detail, Jie Ming knew very well that if he could solve this problem, he would definitely receive substantial rewards.
Various intelligence reports, low-level military merits, materials, and the like were a given; he might even obtain high-level military merits.
Secondly…
Jie Ming could not help but laugh inwardly.
The Fate Subsystem had only just been initially constructed. To continue improving it, he needed to constantly update algorithms and optimize the architecture.
When those wizards borrowed the Fate Subsystem’s computational power, their algorithmic logic, usage habits, processing methods, and algorithm choices when dealing with various situations would all be silently recorded by the Fate Subsystem.
In other words…
The more people who used it, the more the Fate Subsystem would learn.
“Yes, it can be done.”
Jie Ming raised his head and met Martin’s gaze.
“However, it will require some time to set up.”
Martin nodded. “Ask for whatever resources you need.”
“I will arrange a group of sixth-ring logistics wizards to assist you.”
Jie Ming replied, “Understood!”
The two briefly discussed a few details about the setup, after which Jie Ming took his leave.
By the time he returned to the red circle area, more than a dozen sixth-ring wizards were already waiting there.
“Lord Jie Ming, Lord Martin instructed us to assist you.”
The leading female wizard respectfully saluted.
Jie Ming nodded without wasting words and immediately began assigning tasks.
“A receiving altar needs to be built here. This is the general structure and required materials, have people construct it.”
“You few, responsible for erecting the energy nodes.”
Soon, the entire area became bustling with activity.
