Chapter 508: Records and Battle Results
Chapter 508: Records and Battle Results
In the treatment room, the air seemed to freeze for several seconds.
Viola’s wide-open silver-gray eyes were locked rigidly on Jie Ming.
The expression on her face shifted rapidly from shock to a sharp, piercing gleam that mixed scrutiny, evaluation, and sudden realization.
She didn’t ask “Are you sure?” or “Do you have proof?” — not even the slightest flicker of skeptical hesitation.
“Ha!” She let out a short, rising laugh, carrying a strange kind of exhilaration. “My junior brother is actually this badass!”
She didn’t need Jie Ming to present any proof of the kill — no saint’s identity badge, no remnant of a signature wizard artifact, no soul imprint fragment.
From her deep understanding of this junior who always managed to pull off “surprises,” she knew he had no reason to fabricate such a claim.
“Stay put and don’t move!” Viola suddenly spun around and swept out of the treatment room like a gust of wind, leaving only one sentence echoing in the air behind her: “…This has to be reported to the old man!”
Jie Ming opened his mouth, but before he could say anything, the silver construct caregiver had already glided back over and calmly resumed its interrupted scanning procedure, reporting in its flat tone:
“Vital signs show no abnormal fluctuations. No obvious lie-stress reaction detected. Comprehensive evaluation: subject’s statement has high credibility.” “Thanks, but just check my body — no need for a lie detector.” Jie Ming lay back down with a dark look on his face.
Not long after, footsteps arrived — faster than expected.
The first to return was Mentor Clark. His expression remained as indifferent as ever, though his pace was slightly quicker than usual.
And the person who entered right behind him caused Jie Ming’s heart to tighten slightly.
It was a middle-aged man dressed in a deep blue starry law-robe, features refined and scholarly, yet his eyes were as profound as an endless night sky.
Merely standing there, he naturally exuded an aura of perfect harmony with the surroundings while subtly dominating everything within them.
Seventh-ring wizard — Dionysius Spencer.
Clark’s senior brother, one of the true high-level decision-makers of Noren Workshop, and currently an important person in charge of the forward base camp.
Jie Ming tried to stand and bow properly, but Dionysius casually waved a hand. A gentle yet irresistible force pressed him back down, relaxing him once more.
“Lie down. You’re currently both a wounded soldier and a meritorious contributor.” His voice was calm, yet carried an inherent persuasiveness. “Clark gave me a rough summary. You claim that, while gravely injured, you killed the ‘Holy Son’ of the Chaos Secret Cult?”
His gaze rested on Jie Ming — no oppressive pressure, yet it felt as though it could pierce through flesh, soul barriers, and straight to the most fundamental truth.
Hearing this, Jie Ming first cast a grateful glance toward his own mentor.
From the words just spoken, it was clear that Wizard Dionysius Spencer had come rushing over because Mentor Clark had vouched for what Jie Ming said.
Though Jie Ming truly hadn’t lied, the fact that Clark was willing to stand guarantee for him without even confirming the details in person — that level of trust was something Jie Ming genuinely appreciated.
Jie Ming nodded. “Yes, Your Excellency Spencer. Although the situation was chaotic at the time and my own condition was very poor, I can basically confirm it.”
“Describe the process — especially what happened before you were seriously injured.” Dionysius spoke concisely. “Focus especially on the enemy wizards you encountered… particularly any that may be connected to how you ended up so badly wounded.”
Mentor Clark stood quietly to one side, his gaze beneath the gray robe as precise as scanning instrumentation.
Viola had somehow dragged over a chair, straddled it backward, rested her chin on the backrest, and stared at Jie Ming without blinking, her silver-gray eyes practically screaming “Hurry up and tell us!”
Clearly, after learning that Jie Ming had taken down a Holy Son, none of the three were primarily focused on the fact that he had killed a Holy Son.
Or rather — in that instant, every wizard present understood the real crux of the matter:
If Jie Ming could kill the enemy Holy Son while already heavily injured, then the person capable of inflicting such heavy injuries on him absolutely could not be an ordinary foe!
Jie Ming took a deep breath, steadied his mind, and began recalling and recounting:
“I was carrying out a deep reconnaissance mission and was discovered while approaching what appeared to be a large enemy dispatch node. Three sixth-ring wizards came after me, cooperating very closely. Two of them should have been from the Chaos Secret Cult. One looked like an old woman — I was escaping too quickly at the time and didn’t manage to observe her methods clearly, so her specific abilities are unknown.”
“The other one…” Jie Ming carefully recalled the scene and described it in more detail. “He wore heavy dark-purple metallic armor. His skin surface was engraved with continuously flowing jet-black curse script. Beside him was… what looked like a slender hound woven entirely from shadows. Extremely strange, incredibly fast, and it seemed to be the one leading the pursuit.”
At this point, both Dionysius Spencer and Mentor Clark’s eyes lit up almost simultaneously.
“A slender hound that looks woven from shadows… a Shadow Hunt Hound… and he likes wearing heavy armor, with black curse script engraved on his skin…” Dionysius’s gaze narrowed slightly.
Clark added in his usual flat tone: “It’s 【Shadow Curse】 Karmos. Specializes in curse augmentation and shadow manipulation. That Shadow Hunt Hound is his signature. As long as he has sufficient information, his tracking ability becomes absurdly strong — even capable of partially penetrating spatial concealment.”
Dionysius nodded. “Since it’s Karmos, then the old woman you dealt with first was most likely his long-time fixed partner, 【Collector】 Alice. She specializes in information gathering, battlefield obfuscation, and intelligence analysis.”
“This duo — one handles information collection and interference, the other tracking and capture. Moreover, Karmos’s curse arts reach maximum power when assisted by the massive amount of intelligence Alice collects. They’ve been working together for years and are extremely difficult to handle. For ordinary sixth-ring wizards targeted by them, the escape probability is less than thirty percent.”
At this point, Dionysius Spencer looked at Jie Ming with some curiosity. “How did you shake off their pursuit?”
Jie Ming shook his head. “I didn’t shake them off. Once I realized that, I used a spell formation to render those two incapable of fighting.”
“Wow!” Viola couldn’t help exclaiming, eyes sparkling as she stared at Jie Ming. “Junior brother, you set up an ambush and took out this golden duo in one go?!”
Jie Ming recalled how his Red Dust Qi had been completely depleted and his face twitched:
“Senior sister, don’t make it sound so casual. That compound formation took me quite a long time to prepare in advance. It used up almost all the relevant materials I was carrying — plus quite a few genuinely precious ones. And the final effect wasn’t perfect. Strictly speaking, I didn’t truly eliminate them — I only plunged their souls into chaos, rendering them combat-incapable for a period of time.”
He paused, then continued: “After neutralizing those two, I immediately withdrew toward the camp at full speed. But the third wizard wasn’t affected by the formation, so he caught up again later. Judging from the badge, he should have been a sixth-ring wizard from the Tower of Annihilation…”
Jie Ming described in detail the opponent’s body that constantly shifted like mist, those ice-cold scarlet pupils, and the “Annihilation” power that seemed capable of erasing the existence of all things.
He placed special emphasis on the opponent’s most frequently used attack — enormous palm prints condensed from gray-black mist, blotting out the sky, each strike carrying multiple annihilation effects that not only obliterated matter and energy, but could even erode soul structures and spatial stability.
At first, when Jie Ming mentioned “mist body,” “scarlet pupils,” and “Annihilation power,” the expressions of Dionysius and the others remained relatively calm — quite a few wizards from the Tower of Annihilation possessed similar traits.
But when Jie Ming clearly stated “palm-form attacks,” “large-area coverage,” and “multiple layers of annihilation damage”, these key details, the atmosphere inside the treatment room changed abruptly.
Mentor Clark’s normally unruffled face showed a barely perceptible furrow of the brow.
Dionysius Spencer’s gaze suddenly sharpened, like someone who had discovered either a hidden treasure… or a dangerous beast.
Viola directly sucked in a cold breath, sprang up from the chair with a whoosh, walked to Jie Ming’s side, and — with an almost solemn expression — patted his shoulder.
Jie Ming felt a little creeped out by their stares. “What’s wrong? This person… is there something special about him?”
Viola took a deep breath and spoke word by word:
“If… the details you described are accurate, then the one you killed was not an ordinary sixth-ring wizard from the Tower of Annihilation.”
She paused, seemingly digesting the impact of this information.
“That was 【Annihilation Hand】.”
The moment Jie Ming heard that title, he was stunned for a second, then realization dawned, and a slight chill ran across his scalp.
In the wizarding world, especially among high-rank wizard circles, a title itself often carried information about power and status.
For most ordinary sixth-ring wizards, titles were usually combined with their names — for example, 【Shadow Curse】 Karmos, 【Collector】 Alice.
This was because the wizard civilization’s population base was simply too large. Even within a relatively small region, high-rank wizards frequently shared names, so relying solely on personal names or generic titles caused confusion.
Thus, standard high-rank wizards used such combined designations for clearer differentiation.
But when a wizard became powerful enough within their tier, their title gained uniqueness.
Merely mentioning that title was enough for everyone to know exactly who was being referred to.
Over time, that title completely replaced their original name and became their sole identifier in the world of power.
【Annihilation Hand】 was precisely such a title.
It meant the opponent was not merely a sixth-ring wizard — he was one of the publicly acknowledged elites among sixth-rings, one of the very small number standing at the absolute peak of that level!
His strength far surpassed combinations like Karmos and Alice. He was a terrifying existence capable of independently carrying out high-risk strategic missions — and even posing a certain threat to seventh-ring wizards.
Dionysius Spencer recovered quickly from his brief shock and immediately asked several more detailed questions about the battle: the gradual color shift of the palm prints, the specific traces left when Annihilation power eroded space, and the core weakness Jie Ming had observed when counterattacking.
Jie Ming answered each one. Some details he hadn’t paid much attention to at the time, but under the seventh-ring wizard’s guidance, he gradually recalled them.
A moment later, Dionysius slowly exhaled, his face showing a complicated expression.
There was amazement, lingering fear, and finally a deep recognition of Jie Ming’s potential.
“Palm print color shifting from gray to black, fine spatial crystallization fracture marks along the edges… core weakness at the point of altered mist flow slightly to the right of the chest…” He quietly repeated several key points, then nodded firmly.
“Correct. These are indeed the combat characteristics and one of the few known weaknesses of 【Annihilation Hand】. This intelligence is extremely valuable. You little guy… actually managed to kill such an existence…”
He turned to Clark, his tone filled with unconcealed admiration: “Clark, you’ve taken on an extraordinary student.”
Clark gave a small smile and nodded, then subtly changed the subject:
“The elite squad that previously went deep behind enemy lines was completely wiped out. We kept wondering what kind of interception force could achieve such a clean sweep… Now we understand. With 【Annihilation Hand】 holding the line, combined with Karmos and Alice’s tracking and locking, an ordinary sixth-ring squad truly had no chance of escape.”
Dionysius Spencer once again turned his gaze toward Jie Ming. That gaze was no longer simply looking at an injured fifth-ring junior — it was appraising a star that was destined to shine brilliantly in the future:
“To break the tracking duo first as a fifth-ring wizard, then slay 【Annihilation Hand】… Wizard Jie Ming, you have performed far beyond my expectations. The value of this battle result far exceeds the coordinate intelligence you submitted.”
He paused, his tone softening: “Your top priority now is to recover from your injuries. Regarding your feat of killing 【Annihilation Hand】 and the ‘Holy Son,’ the Workshop will verify and record it. The corresponding military merit and contribution evaluation will not shortchange you.”
With that, he gave Clark a slight nod.
Clark reached out and gently patted Jie Ming’s head. The two of them then turned and left the treatment room together — clearly needing to immediately reassess the enemy’s force deployment and adjust their own strategy accordingly.
Once again, only Jie Ming and Viola remained in the room.
By now Viola had switched to an expression of smug pride and vicarious glory.
She walked up to Jie Ming, reached out, and vigorously ruffled his still-messy hair: “Not bad at all, junior brother! Quietly pulling off huge things! 【Annihilation Hand】! Even the old man specifically warned me to be careful around that tough nut — and you actually made him fall! As expected of my junior brother!”
The way she looked — she seemed even happier than if she herself had won a great victory.
Jie Ming helplessly fixed his hair: “Senior sister, this time I really just got lucky — and I nearly didn’t make it back.”
“Lucky is also part of strength — especially in the world of wizards.” Viola brushed it off. Hands on hips, she raised her chin. “You focus on recovering. I have to head out for a bit!”
Her face radiated an uncontainable, almost overflowing glow of “showing off.” She turned and strode toward the door.
Her steps were light and quick; even her back view exuded an air of triumphant cockiness.
She looked exactly like a cat that had just won a fight and couldn’t wait to let the entire camp know how awesome her kitten was.
Watching her almost sideways, crab-like strut, Jie Ming could only shake his head helplessly.
He lay back down on the cold metal platform, feeling the formation continuously transmit gentle, warm power into his body, and began silently planning his next steps after recovery.
