Vera looked at her bare feet and smiled shyly, stepping back to put on her shoes."Grandpa, I’m heading down first!"
She called out to Henry Cooper in a hurry, immediately walking quickly out of the room and down the stairs, crossing the hall and heading straight out the front door.
Outside, the night was deep and dark.
She stopped and looked toward the entrance to the community.
Henry Cooper followed her out as well, seeing the excitement and urgency on the girl’s face. He didn’t say anything, just stood by her side, waiting with her.
He understood her feelings, which was why he came over to wake her up as soon as he received the call.
Not long after, a car drove into the community. As the car lights approached, Vera immediately stepped down the stairs. The car stopped slowly at the bottom of the steps, and Vera opened the car door, immediately seeing Grandma Wave sitting in the passenger seat.
"Grandma..."
Barely able to call out the two words, she was already choked with emotion, unable to speak further.
Henry Cooper patted her shoulder comfortingly, "Let Grandma get out of the car first, shall we?"
"Oh... okay!"
Only then did she come to her senses, hastening to help the old lady unbuckle her seatbelt and assist Grandma Wave out of the car.
"Child, why are you crying?" Grandma Wave saw the tear streaks on her face and smiled, raising her hand to wipe them away. "Missed Grandma, didn’t you? It’s okay, just don’t lose your keys next time!"
The old lady, a bit muddled, didn’t quite understand what had happened—thinking that Vera had indeed lost the keys, which was why she got locked in there.
Keys?
Vera looked at Kris Cooper questioningly.
"Let’s go inside first, shall we? Grandma hasn’t eaten all day, we should let her have some food."
"Mrs. Zhang, is the meal ready?" Henry Cooper turned to the servant coming out.
"It’s ready, it’s ready. I’ve just set the table!"
Mrs. Zhang immediately helped, opening the door for everyone, leading them into the dining room, and helping Grandma Wave with her chair.
Vera helped Grandma Wave to her seat, while Kris Cooper handed her a wet wipe, both of them helping Grandma to clean her hands. Mrs. Zhang handed over the chopsticks and pushed a bowl of noodles toward the old lady.
"I’ve cooled it for you, please eat!"
Hungry all day, Grandma Wave immediately started eating without hesitation.
Watching the elderly lady enjoy her meal, Vera stood by, bending over and gently coaxing her like a child.
"Grandma, eat slowly... don’t rush... there’s more..."
Kris Cooper pulled over a chair, placing it beneath her, pressing down gently on her shoulder to seat her.
"Mrs. Zhang, please serve a bowl for Vera as well."
Mrs. Zhang quickly went into the kitchen, returning shortly to place a bowl of noodles in front of Vera, as Kris handed her the chopsticks.
"Join Grandma for a bite."
"You eat!" Vera nudged the bowl away, "I’m... I’m not hungry!"
"No worries, there’s plenty; I can make more," Mrs. Zhang said with a smile, "We have enough noodles to satisfy everyone!"
Henry Cooper also sat down with a smile. "Watching you all eat makes me hungry, too. Can I have a small bowl?"
Kris Cooper reached over to tidy her hair, "Even if you’re not hungry, my son is. Go ahead and eat!"
Vera smiled and tucked into the noodles heartily.

Just as Mrs. Zhang brought out the cooked noodles, the doorbell rang.
