Chapter 279
Chapter 279
Chapter 279An hour had gone by, and Mio still wasn't back yet. Between myself and Kana, we filled a bucket full of fish. We let some back into the water, since we weren't going to be able to eat them all. Layla never did get her top back, so she had to wear a towel around her chest for the rest of the boating trip.
"Meow!" Shadow came up to me and rubbed her head against my ankle.
"You hungry?" I picked up a fish from the bucket and roasted it with magical fire to a charred finish.
The second I put it down, Shadow tore into the fish as if she hadn't eaten in days. She purred loudly, enough to rival the boat's engines.
"I like Shadow, too, but you guys couldn't find a cat sitter or something? Bringing a cat with you on vacation must have been a hassle," Kana said.
"You can blame our girlfriend for why Shadow came along. She wasn't going to leave her in anyone else's hands. Besides, Shadow's well-behaved! You're a good girl, aren't you?" I scratched behind her ears, eliciting an even louder purr, but she didn't miss a beat in eating the fish.
Something far off in the distance caught our attention. Kana and I squinted hard to get a better look. A figure cut through the water at incredible speeds, and it was coming this way. Worried, we got up and pulled Shadow away from the edge of the boat.
As the unidentified entity drew closer, we noticed it… waving. To our utter surprise, Mio was riding on a sea creature and having the time of her life.
"Hey, guys! Look who I befriended!" Mio shouted.
"Is that… a dolphin?!" Kana gasped.
Mio steered the dolphin right up to the boat, and it chittered a happy tune. She sat hunched on its back, clinging to the glossy body of the animal.
"You made friends with a dolphin?" My jaw dropped.
"Kahaha! It was harder than you think. Saw a group just swimming by. I charmed this one, so I could swim with them for a bit. Hurry and go grab my phone and take a picture! It's in my bag. I wanna show everyone at Asakura!" Mio giggled.
"Mio…" Kana slapped a hand to his face. "Okay, but one picture and you're letting this fish go back to its family," he said before racing off.
She turned to me and grinned. "Have you ever seen a dolphin's dick? It looks so funny!"
"NO, I haven't! And don't show me, because I don't want to see it!" I groaned.
Kana came back with Kaede in tow, and they both took pictures of Mio. Hopefully, this wasn't going to cause problems with any organizations over animal abuse…
With the sun at its peak, some of us decided to take another dip in the water. Layla cast aside what little decency she had and went in without her top. No sense in wasting a good day just because half her bikini was gone. Mio hoisted a suitcase that was an armory of water guns for them to play with.
Selene and Elendir hadn't joined us. I went looking for them, and as it turned out, both were still bathing in the sun at the front of the boat. An hour and a half had passed since they started, and neither of them looked any shade darker than before.
"Selene, Elendir? You two can't seriously be suntanning…" I looked down at the two of them, just lying on a lounge seat as the sun beamed down on them.
"Why not?" Elendir shrugged. "I asked Mio about what leisurely things humans do at times like this. She suggested I sunbathe. Mentioned something about 'sexy tan lines' or some such."
"Okay, but your skin tone is plenty dark. I don't think you're going to tan. Same with Selene. Your skin is way too red. In fact, you might get a surprise sunburn later because it's hard to tell," I explained.
"You're telling me we've been wasting time just lying here?" Selene lifted her sunglasses. "Damn it, Mio…"
"Well, how you spend your time is on you. If you're not enjoying this, you can try fishing or taking a swim with us!"
I thumbed over my shoulder to Kana, Kaede, Layla, and Mio in the water. They formed teams as pairs, humans versus succubi, to wage war on who could nail each other with the water guns better. Each of them had a life vest on just in case. Whenever the current took them too far from the boat, they quickly paddled back.
"Maybe I will take a dip. Queen Elendir?" Selene got up and made her way to the others.
"I… think I'll pass. I'm beginning to feel the thrill of his sunbathing," Elendir replied nervously.
"Wait, do you know how to swim?" I asked.
"Such nonsense. Of course, I know how to swim. I'm merely enjoying tanning," she said, her shaky voice betraying her words.
Instead of following Selene, I took her place on the lounging chair by Elendir's side. The monarch flicked a nervous glance at me, then snapped away. This happened a few more times in quick succession, and each time she got more flustered.
"The ocean is deep… and vast. Besides, I have no need to learn to swim on a boat. Should an emergency call for it, I can magically levitate in the air," Elendir confessed without actually saying.
"Floating in water is fun. Its a lot different than flying. We have life vests and floaties to help you stay afloat. I'll help you," I offered.
Queen Elendir heaved a sigh and reluctantly accepted my proposal. Together, we went over to the back of the boat. Selene, Kaede, Layla, Mio, and Kana were in the middle of a war, shooting each other with toy water guns. I picked up a life vest for Elendir to put on, but her hefty breasts were too big. We asked Captain Mikiko if she had one for… bustier clients. Unfortunately, she didn't. She did have an emergency life jacket, the ones that slipped over the head.
I entered the water first and extended my hands for Elendir to come in. The dark elf grimaced at the water, squeezed her eyes shut, and took the plunge. She sank head-first into the water and resurfaced a second later. Our hands found purchase on one another. Long, platinum hair clung to her face and body.
Elendir was shaking all over. It felt like I was holding on to a beginner swimmer, and she held onto my hands as if clinging on for life. Seeing her stick so close to me made her appear so endearing.
"Saeko, you won't let go?" Elendir asked.
"I won't!" I promised her.
"Goddess preserve me. My feet are treading the water, but it feels like I could sink into the depths at any moment…" She tightened her grasp on my hand.
"Saeko, Elly!" Mio signaled to us before shooting a stream of seawater from her gun at our faces.
Pouting, Elendir flicked her wrist in Mio's direction. The succubus was too busy laughing to notice a whirlpool forming. Mio's laughter stopped abruptly and morphed into a cry as the water spout shot her into the sky.
For most of the afternoon, I stayed with Elendir in teaching her how to swim. She was actually a quick learner. But as someone with a mastery of magic, this was probably child's play to her. All she needed was a little encouragement to take a step out of her comfort zone.
The sun started setting, and ocean waves grew more tumultuous by the minute as the moon ascended. Mikiko announced that it was finally time to return to shore. Elendir even expressed disappointment that she couldn't swim any longer after getting the hang of it. Kaede hit the max storage capacity on her camera from taking so many photos of us.
As night fell, Kana, Selene, and Layla caught a ride into the city to buy groceries for our hot pot dinner. The rest of us, Mio, Elendir, Kaede, and myself were in charge of prep and cooking. Well, I mostly cooked and Kaede helped. Mio and Elendir played with Shadow.
"You should've brought Snowball! Shadow would have someone to play with," Mio said, waving a wand in front of the cat's face.
"I left Snowball in Reza and Emily's care. Bringing him into the bowels of the flying mechanical beast did not sound like a particularly good idea. Shadow, on the other hand, seems completely unperturbed." Elendir sat down next to them to watch.
"Next time we go on vacation, we're bringing Reza and Emily along. All of us are gonna bring our cats, too! Right, Saeko?" She whipped her head to me for support.
"Sorry, Mio. I'm with Elendir on this. I don't think cats and flying get along. If we're going to have a cat-owner play date, it's going to have to be within driving distance," I explained.
Mio's cheeks ballooned up to a pout.
Our hot pot dinner was ready, and the only thing left to do was cook the fish Kana and I had caught earlier in the day. Drawn in by the smell, Mio picked up Shadow and came over to watch.
I roasted fish over a portable grill and seasoned them lightly. The smell was making my mouth water. Everyone around me watched intently, and those not nearby kept throwing hungry glances this way. It was as if the hot pot was no longer the main entree anymore. Fresh fish straight from the sea had a certain allure to it. No one could hide their interest, especially from all the not-so-subtle gulping.
"Is it ready yet?" Mio swallowed hard, drooling from one corner of her mouth.
"Definitely not. They still need a few more minutes. Go play with Shadow some more or something," I suggested.
In Mio's other hand, she clutched onto a bottle of super spicy hot sauce. I recognized it from our fridge. Why she brought it on vacation with us was obvious. I was more baffled that she couldn't go a few days without it.
"We're both hungry! Aren't you, Shadow?" Mio turned to her pet.
Shadow meowed affirmatively.
"I gave you a fish when we were on the boat, and it wasn't enough? Also, you better not be lathering that sauce on Shadow's portion." I eyed her suspiciously.
"Don't be silly. Shadow doesn't like it spicy. I already tried to give her some," Mio said, much to my dismay.
We gathered around the table to fill our empty stomachs after a long day of swimming. But no amount of refueling could stop exhaustion from overtaking everyone. One by one, we started falling asleep, starting with Kaede. She crashed the hardest and fell asleep on the couch. Selene drank herself to a stupor. Kana and Mio snoozed side by side at the foot of the couch with Shadow nestled between them.
Meanwhile, I went around cleaning the kitchen until I noticed Elendir and Layla missing. They weren't in the living room, nor in their rooms when I checked upstairs. It wasn't until I emerged from the house did I find Elendir sitting on the porch, gazing up at the night sky.
"Oh. Hello, Saeko. I was just enjoying the atmosphere. Your summers are humid and stuffy. It is usually so torrid at the manor. However, they both share the same beautiful sights of the moon and stars. Which I find odd. The celestial bodies were harder to see in Tsukiji. Yet here, they are as bright as Elza. Why is that?" Elendir asked.
"We have light pollution to thank for that. It's been a little while since you moved to Earth now. Are you enjoying your new life?" I sat down next to her on the steps.
"Humans are certainly fickle," she said after a pause. "But they can be very kind. However, I believe what I enjoy most is being surrounded by you, Mio, and the other succubi. Thank you for today. I almost declined coming. These vacations are fun. There will be more in the future, yes?"
"Of course! I'll make sure to invite you every time." I nodded.
Elendir's hand fell atop mine. She avoided looking me in the eyes. The warmth of her body radiated to me more than the humid summer season of Okinawa. A strange feeling welled up inside of me. When did it start? Was it Elendir? Her eyes darted every which way, most of the time to me for the briefest moment before looking elsewhere.
"Do you… want to go for a walk?" I asked nervously.
"I-I'd love to!" Elendir answered promptly.
The 'walk' was more of a flight across town. I wasn't sure what came over me when I suggested it, but judging by Elendir's enthusiasm, it turned out to be the right choice. Our hands never let go of each other.
We found ourselves at the beach, walking barefoot through fine sand and watching the waves crash gently against shore. Neither of us said anything for a while. Eventually, Elendir stopped walking and broke off from my grasp. Her gaze turned to the stars, and her lips creased into a soft smile.
"Do you know what led to my decision to come here?" Elendir asked.
"The beach? I, uh…" I lost my train of thought staring at her.
"No, silly. Earth. It was you." She faced me and drew closer. "We were strangers once. You helped me reconcile with my goddess, the Everlight. You didn't treat my people like fodder as Queen Beatrice once did. You accepted my request to sail to the light elves' capitol for a peace mission. You gave refuge to my subjects when they arrived here. Each one is a debt I can never hope to repay, and for which I'm eternally grateful. But… Lately, I've found myself drawn to you. I feel a warmth in my chest I haven't felt in decades."
Elendir took a shy step back, but I rushed forward to grab her hands.
"Tell me more about that warm feeling," I said.
"I can't— mmh!" Elendir couldn't finish the rest of her sentence when I kissed her.
Our lips lingered together for a long moment. Every time Elendir tried to part from me, I pressed deeper. When we finally separated, both of us were panting heavily and basking in the other's hot breath.
"I am afraid of coming between you and Mio, and you and Kana…" Elendir muttered.
"You won't." I kissed her again.
"I'm an old woman. My womb is decrepit. Surely, you find someone younger like Shayle more suitable," she said.
"Age doesn't matter to me." I kissed her again and again until we were tongue-deep down each other's throats. "Honestly, I think Mio would be the most excited out of us all about you and me. Kana… Well, any guy would kill to have another woman in his arms. Especially you. So, if you're okay with the three of us…"
My hands caressed her trembling body and ran down the length of her thighs. Elendir answered by doing the same, feeling every inch of me.
"I want nothing more than to be part of your life," Elendir whispered seductively and full of relief.
We spent the rest of the night on the beach locked in an embrace, not caring if anyone saw us.
