The dark elf was frozen in time, likely the chronomancer's doing. Gerdell herself strolled over to the other portal Mayen had presumably fallen into and leaned over to look in.

"That is definitely a chronoschism." Gerdell nodded to herself.

"If you're here, this can't be good. I'm afraid to ask, but I might as well… What is a chronoschism?" I asked.

"To put it in layman's terms, it is a gateway of sorts to another part of your world or the adjacent ones. Worry not. This isn't anything dangerous like a temporal anomaly. Time becomes funky when its flow is altered. Our funny little device is the culprit," she explained.
