I Am Cultivating in the Apocalypse

Chapter 743: A Field of White Bones

Chapter 743: A Field of White Bones

Jing Shu originally controlled the Hulks to quickly escape this hell, but the Hulks instead pounced towards the black ocean. They were like men who had encountered the most delectable beautiful girl, unable to wait to get closer, occasionally making the heavy sound of liquid hitting the ground.

Sitting inside the Hulk, Sanliang and the others could only feel the massive, wide Hulk shrinking and compressing. The space grew smaller and smaller until they were squeezed into a lump, and terrifying sounds came from outside from time to time.

This was the ’Liquid Green Giant’ obeying its master. It maintained the minimum amount required for the ’vehicle body,’ while its eager companions had already started to feed.

"God, that wasn’t an illusion I just had, you saw it too, right?"

"Yeah, it wasn’t an illusion."

"We might have entered the domain of an unknown Dark Creature."

"That’s terrifying! I fired a few shots just now, and it was like shooting into water—no reaction at all."

The man from family number two, who was carrying the rocket launcher, also said with lingering fear, "What a shame we were too close, otherwise I would’ve given them a blast."

Even Sanliang spoke gravely, "If I’m not mistaken, this is the reason for everyone’s disappearance. We’re not safe even now. Miss Jing Shu, how fast can the Hulk go? Please run as fast as possible, in the opposite direction of the camp. We can’t lead them to where the civilians are. I’ll report to my superiors and request support. Have them bring explosives and destroy this area outright."

Everyone in the vehicle was nearly scared witless by the recent scene. Since the apocalypse, they had never seen such a spectacle. The creatures weren’t like a single mouse, which isn’t scary, but like millions of mice, coming at you like an ocean wave, surging and splashing...

The mood inside the vehicle was bleak. Everyone wore a worried expression, having encountered such a thing on the road.

Jing Shu had an odd expression. Only she could see what was happening outside.

Outside, the scene was fervent. The Hulk was like a cat catching mice—no, even simpler than that. The LOUD THUDS were the Hulks excitedly leaping and smashing onto the ground to feed—or rather, to assimilate, which was more fitting. Whenever a Hulk encountered the black liquid, it would instantly absorb it, grow in size, and then split into cells that were cast out again to grow like a snowball rolling downhill.

Therefore, the sounds outside grew more intense and louder, while the faces of those inside the vehicle grew increasingly pale. It was the unknown that filled them with all sorts of fear, but, well-trained as they were, their faces also showed resolve.

The black liquid, these Dark Creatures, seemed to have met their natural enemy. They couldn’t outrun the similarly liquid Hulks, couldn’t jump higher than them, and couldn’t even put up a fight.

A few minutes later, Jing Shu’s emotions stabilized. The Hulks also conveyed a sense of joyful satiation; when they encountered more black liquid, they no longer absorbed it. Xiao Lu, having followed Jing Shu for so long, deeply understood the principle that good things should be savored slowly.

Thus, it organized its minions to trap the black liquid. Imitating Jing Shu’s method of fish farming, it had its minions act as containers to collect all the remaining black liquid. In the end, it even showed off to Jing Shu several times.

Jing Shu could only silently give her ’little brother’ a thumbs-up and tell him he was awesome.

I’ll take a closer look at what this black liquid really is when we get back.

The change in the Hulks was significant. Originally, only a few had been brought along, but now their numbers had expanded to over a dozen. More importantly, the Hulks had changed color, darkening to a deep green. Any other changes would require further research.

The noise outside vanished, and everything became eerily silent. Jing Shu directed the Hulks. After ensuring the surplus Hulks had hidden the black liquid securely, she allowed everyone to exit the Hulk they were riding in.

"Did we make it out?"

"Are we safe now?"

"No, we’re still in the same place," Jing Shu said, shaking her head.

"What?! What about the monsters?"

Someone had already thought it odd that the Hulk hadn’t been moving much—it turned out they hadn’t moved at all.

Jing Shu put on a bewildered expression. "Just now, the Hulk suddenly stopped moving. I have no idea what happened, but those monsters seemed uninterested in the Hulk. Maybe they just ran off."

Jing Shu didn’t want to mention that the Hulks had eaten the black liquid creatures; there was too much involved.

Sanliang immediately dispatched several people to search, but indeed, they couldn’t find a single creature.

"They actually ran off? Where to? This is bad! Quickly send a message to warn the civilians. It will be troublesome if they headed that way."

"It seems these Dark Creatures aren’t as fearsome as we thought, are they? They just look scary," the uncle holding the big club said. "Maybe they’re just creatures without any attacking power. We might have made a mountain out of a molehill."

"We can’t let our guard down. Let’s go to the warehouse and see if there are any injured survivors."

After reporting to both his superiors and the civilian side, Sanliang decided to check the supply station’s warehouse. It previously housed thirty service station personnel and a large amount of supplies.

No one noticed that all the Hulks had changed color. Of course, in the pitch-dark and gloomy weather, it was already hard to see anything clearly.

Upon entering the warehouse, the sight of white bones scattered everywhere was particularly jarring. Sanliang shook his head and bowed in salute, his expression heavy. He hadn’t expected such carnage. It was indeed a complete massacre; he hadn’t realized the black, tide-like creatures were so terrifying.

No one spoke.

The uncle with the big club swallowed hard. Goodness, did those monsters do all this? It’s too horrifying.

Jing Shu let out a surprised "Huh?" "The numbers don’t match up."

Someone started counting. Despite the bones being jumbled and scattered haphazardly, they just needed to count the skulls. There were over sixty in total.

"There was also a group of bandits here."

"It doesn’t matter anymore. They’re all dead."

Apart from human bones, there were also various weapons, cellphone parts, clothing shredded almost beyond recognition, and the empty supply crates that had filled the hall.

A gust of cold wind blew, rolling some bones along with it.

Not a trace of blood remained.

This demonstrated just how fearsome the creatures that had pounced on them earlier were. If Jing Shu hadn’t told everyone to get into the Hulk, they would probably be like these white bones now.

In the face of such a tidal wave of an attack, weapons seemed particularly feeble, unless an area was immediately blown up with explosives or hand grenades.

"Goodness, it eats everything but bones and metal! Truly plucking the goose clean as it passes!" The uncle felt as if he had just narrowly escaped death’s door. He earnestly expressed his gratitude to Jing Shu, "Thank you, young lady, for saving my life."

The others also expressed their thanks to Jing Shu. Without her, the consequences would have been unimaginable.

Jing Shu inwardly sighed. That was a close call. Such ferocious creatures, yet the Hulks ate them without batting an eye. If others found out about this, it would ultimately be troublesome.

"I will immediately report the situation to my superiors!" Sanliang was very serious. He then commanded, "You few, go outside and check on the condition of the Tan Kes. You others, gather and pack all the human bones into a Hulk for transport. You there, collect all usable clothing, mobile phones, and items like bowls and pots used by the original staff for eating and sleeping—anything usable, pack it up. And you, gather all the weapons, including any parts."
